“Very friendly and attentive staff especially the owner. The popadom and chutney tray pre-starter was excellent particularly the tamarind sauce. We asked if we could buy some of the tamarind sauce, they gave us two small tubs without charge.Our main courses were chicken Luari and prawn Rogan Josh with Pilau rice, both were large portions and delicious. We had no room for a desert. The cost was a very reasonable £17 pp with no service charge. We left a very well deserved tip.The Jewel In The Crown does not have an alcohol licence but customers are able to BYO. Glasses are provided and their is non corkage charge. There is a good range of non-alcoholic drinks.We live 100 miles from Castle Douglas so unfortunately will not be able to return to The Jewel In The Crown often. We will be back whenever we are in the area.The owner did tell us about an ex-employee who now has the Thai Valley restaurant in Selkirk. This is only 20 miles from home so we will be visiting soon, hoping it is as good as The Jewel In The Crown.”
