The Scottish Pantry
184-186 King St, Castle DouglasFood is fantastic for the price. Staff are great. Had the smaller of the cooked breakfasts and couldn't fault it, note that the toast is included. Loved the haggis and the black pudding - these weren't 'greasy' as can be the case elsewhere.I also enjoyed the coffee (I'm a bit precious about my brew)If in area, would deffo go back

Irvings Homestyle Bakery Ltd
1 Abercromby Rd, Castle DouglasWe always hunt out any shops that sell Irvings fabulous biscuits. Living in Derbyshire but often working in Tyneside there's a deli that sells them in Tynemouth so I always stock up. Luckily we also know a few shops in Galloway and the Borders that sell them so when we visit for a break we stock up again! The raspberry and white chocolate oaties are amazing. By far the best biccies anywhere.

Nikos
139 King St, Castle DouglasHad dinner here this evening. The sharing platter and meze were fabulous. Stifado, scallops, dolmades, spanakopita and pork belly. The highlights were the home-baked focaccia (part of the starter), and the pork belly, but it was all delicious, with excellent service. One very, very minor gripe - you could do with thicker cushions on the seats. The seats are quite low, and I felt like a wee boy sitting at the big boys’ table! But overall, a fantastic night! Well done!

Superstar Chinese Takeaway
5 Carlingwark St, Castle DouglasI just had a lovely meal from the Superstar Takeaway in Castle Douglas. Truthfully, I only came here because my regular was closed. However, I’ll be returning more often! I ordered the chicken fried rice, with a side of curry sauce. Id read some negative reviews regarding the curry sauce but wanted to try it for myself. It was excellent! Very spicy, but tasty, and one of the best curry’s I’ve had to be honest. With the meal I also got a handful of prawn crackers. Brilliant! The portion size was HUGE though. Enough to feed at least two people and I’m a guy with a huge appetite. Thanks again though!

Mad Hatter
53 King St, Castle DouglasVery happy with our lunch. I had mushroom soup and a cheese toastie. Wife had tina mayonnaise jacket potato. 2 teas. £18.45. Only thing I didn’t like is you have to wait to be seated. This means people queue with the door open so very draughty if your sitting near the door.

Great Wall Takeaway
26B King St, Castle DouglasI called The Great Wall Chinese takeaway to place an order tonight and the receptionist was very enthusiastic and friendly, able to cater to my arrival time (travelled a distance to collect), when we arrived the kitchen staff were just as friendly, giving us a wave!I had requested a spicy meal and was recommended Chicken with chilli and peppers and it blew me away, not too spicy and it retained the delicious flavours. I also ordered some chicken chowmein that was equally delicious, not greasy and very fresh (I hate when some local chineses give you chicken chowbeansprouts), I received a good noodle, chicken and veg split. The Great Wall also hands down sell the best prawn crackers! The crunch was to die for, 10/10, value for money, highly recommend and would be back.Parking: Public and free car park on opposite side of road.

Marchbank Bakers
123-125 King St, Castle DouglasTheir coronation chicken is to die for, creamy and not too spicy. The staff are always quick and helpful. Only niggle is sorting a better system to be able to place orders for collection if in a rush - twice I've tried to call and the phone hasn't worked

Moore's Fish & Chip Shop - Castle Douglas
252-254, Castle DouglasVisited 1st time as has outstanding reviews... cooked to order ,friendly server, .... but I must concur with other , recent reviews ... it was OK... not "outstanding"... chips were crispy ( poss. double cooked ..) , but a small portion really .. fish ( Haddock ) was decent size , and really nice ( as it should be..! ) .. but the batter on the fish , although crispy , was quite greasy . The chips , were also a little greasy.... In reality , the food was OK... as you would expect / hope from a good fish & chip shop... but that is about it ... I wouldn't rave about it , as others have ... I live out of Castle Douglas ( the "foodie town") ... so travelled to experience this highly rated take-away... It was ok - as far as fish & chips go... but I don't think I would travel to Castle Douglas just to get the fish & chips... If I am in town , and fancy fish and chips...OK... but wouldn't make a special trip ... but as we all know , nothing satisfies like fish & chips , when you are in the mood !
