“Got off a plane from Canada and immediately on a train to Dumfries. I got out and headed for the Station Cafe inside the Dumfries train station. Had a great square sausage roll and espresso. Danny knows his coffee and this espresso is the best in town.”

“This was my 1st visit. My friend took me as she had lovely creamy cakes last time. Today's cakes were all made with fruit. Apple with almonds, plum with dark chocolate drizzle, rhubarb with crumble topping and mixed fruit with crumb top. As we couldn't choose Mirka suggested that we could have a taste of all 4! Impossible to pick a favourite. All were delicious and homemade by Mirka to traditional Polish recipes. A little gem with a big hearted owner!”

“Weekend stay for business and booked at the last minute, so got the only remaining room available, which was a single with private bathroom. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a view across the river. The bathroom as it states has a bath, but no shower, which I took the opportunity to relax in. Breakfast which are cooked to order, are served in the dining room, which has outstanding views up the River Nith. Staff were friendly and helpful. Glencaple is only a 10 minutes drive south of Dumfries and has the Wildfowl Trust reserve close by, along with the historic Caerlaverock Castle.”

“A lovely cafe servicing great home made local meals. Fish cakes with poached eggs and the venison burger are great. Meat and cheese sharing platter could have been bigger with more diverse cheeses. Try the wedges or sweet potato fries, they are too die for. Dog friendly and a great place to catch the today bore or flocks of migratory birds”
