The Globe Inn Dumfries

We attended the Traditional Burns night celebration event last night. Staff were very friendly and attentive, I found out I was pregnant after booking and they were so helpful adjusting the set menu to suit the dietary requirements.
Lovely setting in historical building.
Callum Watson was wonderful providing the entertainment, with toasts, pipes and poems.

The Usual Place

Fantastic place provides training opportunities for differently abled people. Everyone was polite, efficient, food was delicious and good value. Plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Old church building beautifully renovated, warm and clean.

The Back Street

Nice atmosphere. Good tasty home cooked food and decent value. Staff very friendly and efficient. Only downside is the extraction for the kitchen which is not separate from the dining area and leaves your clothes smelling which is fine if not going on elsewhere

Casa Mia Dumfries

The food is wonderful and the welcome and service superb - these folks really know how to run a restaurant, they get everything right. Credit to all at Casa Mia for the dedication and sheer hard work which goes into the whole operation and giving diners a great experience week in, week out. Will definitely return and recommend it to others.

Abbey Cottage Tearoom

The food and service were good, and although it was busy, it was still quiet enough to hold a conversation. The rest of my party were happy with their meals and the service too.

Mrs Greens Tea Lounge

A lovely little tea room which also allows dogs in as well. A nice range of drinks and food. Little slow with service other than that a great place to stop off to recharge the batteries.

The Hitching Post - DG1 2EQ

Delivers what it says on the tin. Simple, well presented food, good portions, reasonably priced, with great service, and actually it's a lovely venue too.

Push the fact that you have so many GF options in your advertising, it's refreshing to see it so well labelled on a menu, but when searching GF places to eat locally it didn't come up high on the searches, which is a shame because it's a good place with so my options.

Yamas Deli

Found this gem today. Food was out of this world, best Greek food I’ve had in England on par with what I ate in kalamata, Greece if not better. Customer service was amazing the owner was so chatty and kind. Will definitely be returning 10/10 really recommend

Pizzeria Il Fiume

We really enjoyed our meals. The restaurant has a classic Italian feel. It reminds of the ones my Italian dad took us to when I was a child. Gorgeous and delicious pizzas, lovely service and relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely visit again.

N'Dulge

We celebrated our 10 year anniversary at N’Dulge on 30th May, and it was absolutely fantastic. The location is excellent—easy to get to and with a lovely atmosphere that made our evening feel extra special. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from the moment we enquired and throughout. One of the highlights was how they involved our kids, letting them make their own mocktails—such a thoughtful and fun touch that made them feel part of the celebration too! The cocktails were great, so full of flavour. It really added to the experience for the adults while the kids enjoyed their own fun drinks. Everything from the service to the small details made the night memorable. Highly recommend N’Dulge for any special occasion or just a great night out!

The Boathouse Restaurant & Shop

First visit and won't be my last. Had a delightful veggie breakfast and my friend who had travelled from Glasgow had the vegan mexican dish with sweet fries and some delicious coffees. TheBTR30D14 staff were lovely and the setting is beautiful. I was surprised it wasn't as busy on a Thursday because it is a magical wee spot. Even better was it was child friendly and the change facilities were better designed and far cleaner than I've found in child focused soft play venues. To note also the staff were lovely and friendly with my wee boy. It is quite nerve racking to attempt eating in nicer places these days with a child who's just learned to walk and doesn't want to sit still but thankfully he was quite content sitting on my lap with lovely views of the river for long enough to devour his baby pancakes.

I'm not veggie but enjoy veggie options time to time and have to say the vegetarian haggis was stunning and I could have devoured an entire plate of only that.

Enjoyed a lovely walk by the river after our prolonged brunch which I also think is a big selling point.

Will hopefully be back soon with dad in tow and I can peruse the lovely gift shop aswell :)

The food here is lovely and the staff a very friendly, but they didn't get my sence of humour when I said the food wasn't good that's why I came to order more, but I wish they catered for gluten and dairy free options for my wife, salad is not a meal

Just now popped in with kids after the fair. My first time there and first time actually sitting in a take away shop. Was pleasantly surprised. The place is very clean,the staff very polite,service superb, prices that don't bite and the pizzas were absolutely to die for! Delicious,fresh. Yummy! Will definitely be back or at least order a delivery. Now I know at least one place in Dumfries that makes delicious food. Thank you,guys!

My fiancé and I were here last night for a meal. We both had 3 courses and everything was delicious. Order was taken quickly and food came out in good time also. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal!

Granary

Had an excellent meal and drinks, with service from mari who was fantastic, very knowledgable with allergy awareness which you don’t often see in many places. The pub could do with a bit of an update however it was still very clean and welcoming.

Pepe's

Food and staff amazing as always! We have never had an issue with any order. We collected today and Churros were missing but this really was not an issue for us. At the time there was a group of rude, demanding an extremely entitled customers who were constantly interrupting and hounding staff with one demand after another.
It was genuinley hard to listen to, especially as every member of staff I've met at Pepe's have been lovely and consistently delivers excellent service. The way the team handled those customers was incredibly impressive - a lesson in customer service!
We soon received a phone call apologising for the missing Churros which were then delivered straight to our door (with extra!). A very kind and totally unexpected gesture.
Hospitality staff work incredibly hard, often under pressure and deserve respect. This team handled the situation far better than most people could.

I have lived in Dumfries for the last couple of years and Daksh is consistently the place that I bring my guests or colleagues for a delicious meal and good service.\n\nThe waiting staff are extremely attentive and have made some astute recommendations to me and my guests. In addition I am always impressed when they remember my name. The Jolly Harvester

First time in the Jolly, but certainly not the last! Lovely welcome as we came in, little tour of the place as we chose our seats, fantastic menu and absolute 10/10 scran! Must mention the lovely Joey, so friendly and cheery,total ray of sunshine. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

This was honestly the best takeaway I’ve had in years. The food is really fresh and authentic, and they have a really in depth menu. The owners are so lovely too, I will definitely make this a regular stop!Note: order direct with restaurant because Deliveroo and Uber don’t have enough drivers and are unreliable. Much better to phone them or go in store.Vegetarian options: You can choose quorn for a lot of their dishes! Also so many options for vegetarians, they are so accommodating!Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free, dairy free and vegan options, just phone them up and ask if you’re unsure.

Kebabs are delicious,plenty of salad, ordered for family and all agreed the best kebabs we’ve had, quick delivery too and driver very polite , won’t use anywhere else now .Well done !

The Taste of Bengal

Delicious food - especially the chicken chaat. The special for two was an absolute steal at £20 and was ready in twenty five minutes. Really pleasant staff. Highly recommend.

Solway Gate Table Table

Been there many times before to get two main meal for 11 pounds and 99 penny.It use to be two meal for 10 pounds before the pandemic.The portions are in a good size.Good and fast service.

The Ship Inn

I popped into The Ship Inn recently and was genuinely impressed. The newly clothed pool table looks fantastic and adds a fresh touch to the place. The staff were friendly from the moment I walked in, and the whole pub has a warm, cosy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. I was made to feel welcome straight away, which really set the tone for a great visit. A lovely spot to relax, have a drink, and enjoy the vibe.

Our lunch was very memorable. Amazing flavours and textures, artfully designed menu and a talented team executing the experience. Fine food and drink without the portentousness. A great surprise down an ally.

Dejavu

Visited this pub yesterday and it was great, very quiet but service was top notch and it has to be one of cleanest pubs I've ever been in. The best pint of Stella I've ever had. Didn't have food but I will definitely be back.

The Lantern

What a lovely welcoming pub. The decor is lovely feels like a proper pub, but mainly more impressed by the warm and friendly service from the land lady on Christmas Eve. I reckon more pubs would be busier if they had this level of customer service. A visitor to Dumfries regularly so we will definitely be back.The world ? is a strange place at the moment and I love the caring ethos of this pub. i hope Christmas day goes well for you and you have lovely time.

The Barrel

Good old fashioned pub, bar staff are helpful and prices are great. We were in at the weekend and enough people to be a good atmosphere but seems like a local for older crowd. Jukebox has good selection.

Douglas Arms

Discovered this gem of a place last night as we were ambling by. Was drawn in and stayed a good while. Best pub ever. Friendliest owner, great music and just the loveliest vibe in there. Just wish we were staying longer so we could go back for more. A definite recommend for sure.

The Imperial

We didn't eat, just had a few drinks. Mixed crowd from youngsters to the older generation watching horse racing. They also had the rugby on. Plenty of choice in drinks, seating of various types. Friendly and clean. Good prices.

Spread Eagle Inn

Excellent location if you’re going to a concert at the Hydro.Most staff were excellent and friendly. However, there’s a guy on the bar, Callum who probably shouldn’t work with people! The way he spoke to his colleagues and threw his weight around in front of a customer was ridiculous. He needs to learn professionalism and manners. All other staff were excellent.

Had a lovely meal again at brunos with the family . As I live down in England I only get the chance to go when im up visiting . But been lovely everytime . Thank you

Kings Coffee and Books

Having just moved back to Scotland from Australia, finding good coffee was a high priority and here I have found excellent coffee! Not only that the staff are lovely and welcoming and the place has a great vibe! It has now become my favourite place for my daily coffee!

Bonus points for great 80s music and groivy dance moves from the girls today! ??

KFC Dumfries - Cuckoo Bridge Retail Park

We visited 17th February 2025. Party of 6, 4 adults and 2 children. We had a really lovely time here. Ordered the the wicked family feast for lunch. A really lovely member of staff brought our bottle of coke and cups. We were waiting a little while and we were brought more drinks and apologies for the delay. We didn't mind as we had a lovely big table by the window. When our order came we had been given extra gravy and extra couple of popcorn chicken. The chicken was piping hot and delicious. We all really enjoyed our visit. Thanks again to the lovely member of staff who looked after us. Wish I had got his name ?? ? ?

The Station Cafe Dumfries

Lovely place, good food and generous portions, the owner is so kind and really makes the place feel welcoming, would not hesitate to recommend for anyone travelling through Dumfries.

The Swan - Kingholm Quay

I thought i had booked a table on a busy December saturday but i had not booked correctly. The staff member was extremely helpful at fitting the 7 of us in when it would have been much easier for them to turn us away. I am very grateful for this, i nearly ruined the family lunch. Thank you?. Service and food was exellent, with a good Vegan menu. Very enjoyable and wasnt that expensive for such a big table.

Pumpernickel

We absolutely LOVED eating here after a brief visit to the hospital. We were so glad there was a dedicated vegan/veggie restaurant nearby and the food was exquisite. We're vegan and find it so hard to find places with more than 1 or two vegan options, so imagine our surprise when we found a whole menu to choose from!

We stuffed ourselves with the Asian cuisine but were too full for cake (all of which were vegan...wow). We'll certainly be back another time to try more of the menu <3

Elevenses

This cafe is a real gem... the staff are always attentive and friendly - even when the place is full and busy. The food is good, the value is unusually good; a full breakfast including toast and a mug of tea or coffee for less than £9.

The vegan breakfast includes two sausages, vegan haggis, two potoato cakes, lots of beans, mushrooms, tomato, toast and coffee or tea with oat milk or coconut milk.

The fairy lights and booths make it very pleasant. Each booth also has multiple electrical sockets and USB sockets so great for those with laptops or phones that need a charge.

A great experience all round.

Cavens Arms

This place is exactly what you're looking for if you're looking for a cozy, friendly Scottish pub. The beer and liquor flow freely as does the conversation and the delicious food. They had a lot of good looking things on the menu including the chicken criffel which is a classic Scottish dish of chicken strips (just chicken cut into stripes not that god awful frozen stuff) w a creamy herby thyme sauce and veggies. They had a specials menu too and plenty of beers to choose from. For larger groups I would plan ahead as its not a terribly large place and was quite popular. Oh and they stop serving food at 8p during the weekdays and 830p weekends.

Coach & Horses Inn

A wonderful proper pub well situated near the sands.

It has a genuinely historic feel to the interior.

It's a place of live music and livelier conversations.

Staff and locals are welcoming and genuinely interested in chatting with new faces.

Tennant's and a real ale hand pump both offer a well kept bevvy.

Definitely worth a wander into if you are sampling the pubs of Dumfries.

A gem of a pub.

Always have a memorable time when we drink here.

Friendly staff and punters who are always good for a bit of banter.

The floor plan shows how old the pub is with lots of passages, entrances and rooms.

The first time I've encountered afternoon karaoke coupled with an accordion act playing at the same event.

Good choice of Scottish beers.

Well worth a visit if you are doing a tour of the pubs of Dumfries.

The Fleshers Arms

From the outside the pub looks rundown and a bit 'shady' but inside it's well enough kept.

Staff were friendly and helpful and the locals were welcoming.

Well kept ales on offer.

One of the better 'proper' pubs in Dumfries.

Suffers a bit from being a bit off the main town area so unless you know about it before hand it's only a pub you'll go to by accident.

Ye Olde Friars Vaults

Around 20 years ago I used to take around 15 golfers to Dumfries around may time although we came from Newcastle I was living in the church up at moffat ..always made very welcome by Liz and the staff ..good karaoke as well . Had a couple of good duets with a few of the locals and staff ..we had some good singers as well ..excellent times .. David from Newcastle .

Delicious food and homemade cakes.

The fresh homemade soup is always AmazinG!!! I've had soup every time I've been. Different flavour every time. They grow some of their own herbs.

Lovely staff and attentive service. You san take your time as you'll never be rushed by the staff.

Great for a lunchtime meal or coffee/tea and cake.

Friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

Dedicated small children's play area, with tables/chairs and high chairs.

Background music, not too loud, some excellent song choices.

I really love the indoor courtyard design. Really spacious with plenty of seating.

There are also some outdoor bench tables for the fine weather.

100% positive feedback from me.

The Normandy

Excellent pub with a first class staff and proprietor. Great homely and welcoming atmosphere. My favourite place to chill with a bevvy (or six). Never had a bad experience or bad pint here as far as I can recall.

Salutation Inn

Popped into the bar for a quick pint. As a stranger to Dumfries the barman welcomed me in and made me feel comfortable in the presence of his regulars. He was very polite and chatty. He then poured me one of the best pints of Tennents I have had in a long time, it was bliss. The music was varied but all to my taste. Overall a good little pub with good staff. I was a very satisfied customer and will definitely pop in again on my return to Dumfries. Thanks for your hospitality. Cheers

What a great pub this is, we called in as we were parked up at the bonnie bistro car park for the night, on our travels round Scotland, locals very friendly bar staff great think her name was Brooke (the 1 with the Frenchies) beer very reasonably priced great atmosphere will definitely call back in on our travels when passing.

Phoenix Chinese Takeaway

I order from Phoenix regularly, always friendly service from Lisa, the Peking Chicken is really good as is the Chicken Fried Rice and Garlic Chips. We usually get the same meals so haven't tried alot of the food.

We ordered our takeaway in advance, for collection. It was ready when we called, and came at a reasonable price - not cheap, but not pricey either.\n\nThe food was excellent, and about as good as a takeaway gets. Certainly on my list to repeat next time I'm in the area.

Morrisons Cafe

I've been shopping at Morrisons for many years. I find everything I need easily. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The cafe is excellent value for money and I sometimes stop for a meal during my visit to the store. I find Morrisons to be competitively priced.

McDonald's

Fast service, usual standard of food. Teenagers being a bit loud and noisy. Glad I didn't have my grandchildren with me. Security eventually asked them to leave. Otherwise a good McDonald's.
