Weekend stay for business and booked at the last minute, so got the only remaining room available, which was a single with private bathroom. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a view across the river. The bathroom as it states has a bath, but no shower, which I took the opportunity to relax in. Breakfast which are cooked to order, are served in the dining room, which has outstanding views up the River Nith. Staff were friendly and helpful. Glencaple is only a 10 minutes drive south of Dumfries and has the Wildfowl Trust reserve close by, along with the historic Caerlaverock Castle.

Had a great few days staying at the Nith hotel last week . The rooms are very clean and tidy . Also the shower was very good . It’s a lovely location and the staff could not have been more friendly . They went above and beyond to make our stay as nice as possible . Great food menu and drinks selection . Highly recommend the pork with peppercorn sauce . Would have no hesitation in going back for another visit some time in the near future.

Visited with 12 friends in a group. Enjoyed Sunday lunch which we all thoroughly appreciated. The view from the restaurant is very impressive. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Limited car parking is available. A bus service passing the front of the hotel.

We visited for an evening meal and had a table with a gorgeous view over the River Nith. We parked our campervan over the road at the Glencaple motorhome area to stay overnight. We all enjoyed our meal. The sweet and sour chicken was delicious! All staff were welcoming and helpful. We will definitely return when in the area.

Family tea, booked in advance for [email protected]. Restaurant was very busy but we were seated, first drink order in and food order taken in a reasonable time. Starters appeared but then a long wait till main bought through. Both fillet steak and gammon(lots of gristle) was over cooked and dry, minimal amount of chips, 3 onion rings, a tomatoe and some sorry looking peas on each plate. Steak pie and the fish n chips our children ate looked great though, tasted good too. Even longer wait for 2nd drinks order. Very disappointed for £110 bill. Staff were extremely busy and when in the room helpful.

Was passing through and decided to pop into the hotel for an evening meal. The restaurant was super busy but there was room in the bar and they bought the food down. Not only was the food lovely, they also catered for a vegan guest with a menu of three starters, four mains and three puddings which was more than I expected. Would highly recommend to all who are passing by

Visited today to have lunch with my mother-in-law and my partner. The meal was way above expectations. Never had a steak pie so delicious and such a portion, will not eat tonight. The salmon Was also delicious. The staff could not do enough and so friendly. It is such a shame we live in the south of England or we would be regular customers. Well worth a visit. Plus price very good.

Stayed in Glencaple for a week in June, and dined here 4 times during our visit. On each occasion we found the food to be very good, with decent portion sizes, reasonably priced, and very pleasant staff. More than happy to recommend.

This is a great place to stay. The owner and staff are so friendly and welcoming. The level of service throughout our stay was excellent. Our room (no.4) was very clean and well appointed with lovely views over the River Nith. The bath / shower room was spacious and included thoughtful additions like a shaving mirror. The restaurant was a pleasure to dine in. Spacious and inviting , again with good views toward the Nith. The food was very good at both breakfast and dinner with a varied choice to suit most palates. I particularly enjoyed breakfast which had a range of starters and main courses including a vegan option. A picturesque location , good food and friendly attentive service - you would be hard pushed to do better at the price.

Only spent the night due to lack of time but we will return. Staff were lovely, room clean and comfy and the food was great. Lovely setting. We watched the ducks and geese fly down the river at dusk to their nightly resting ground. Perfect end to a perfect day.

This is a great hotel. The rooms have views over the River Nith, as does the very bright and airy dining room. We stayed here many years ago. Since then, it has been completely refurbished and upgraded. The room was excellent, with a nice soft bed. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the food quality is top notch. A word of warning, though. If you choose the steak pie, bring a good appetite with you as the portion is huge. We are planning a return visit in the Autumn.

We booked the Nith hotel for the last night of a nostalgic tour around the Scottish highlands. Being unfamiliar with the Dumfries area we were unsure what to expect of the area or the hotel itself. Well, what a find! Just a few minutes away from Dumfries (which looked very nice as we drove through) the view from the hotel over the river Nith was stunning. The welcome was very friendly and our room (no4) was spacious, very comfortable and well equipped with lovely views. The restaurant was quite busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon which was lovely to see families and friends out for dinner, a really nice atmosphere. The breakfast the following morning was great and again all the staff were so friendly. Would definitely recommend a stay and to eat here, also great value for money.

What a wonderful find. We went to Dumfries to attend a wedding at Caerlaverock Castle and opted stay at this small hotel in the village of Glencapel. On pulling up it didn't look much...a little dated on the outside and looking like it needed a bit of tlc on the outside. However on entering the building we were met by Lindsay one of the management team. She was so friendly and helpful from the outset. We just gave our name and she produced the key and led us to our room explaining everything to us about meal times etc. The room was clean, well equipped and big with a look out onto the estuary and beautiful landscape. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The beer garden was lovely and has great views. The food menu was exstensive and the quality of the food that came out of the kitchen was fantastic.. the restaurant is one of their biggest assets. Again the staff were brilliant and on the ball. Breakfast was lovely and well presented. The wedding reception was at the Nith and again 100% top notch service and a brilliant band and buffet. I would definitely reccomend the place to future visitors. It's not the Ritz but the service and friendliness of the staff team makes it worth the stay.
