Wonderful experience, great to get so close to the Chefs and their thoughts on the food and wine on offer. The menu had some interesting combinations, that tasted amazing. Wine flight really enhanced the food. To have scored a 5 from us I suggest that the dining room could have done with being a bit warmer, there was a fireplace with logs but it was unlit. I think that would have added to the atmosphere. Also some of the dishes could have benefited from being served on warm plates. However we’ve booked again for summertime.

Fabulous tasting menu and dining experience with optional wine pairing. Advanced booking required but well worth the wait. Highly recommend.

If you are reading this and you've not booked - GO! If you've been, you already know this is one of the best restaurants in Dundee, in fact, one of the best in Scotland.Been a couple of times to this amazing eatery which has been fully booked since it was opened a couple of years back. Situated in Dundee centre, hidden beneath a cooking academy, we duly uttered the pre-arrange password and were sent downstairs to the most lovely intimate dining area. As you arrive you pass by the gleaming kitchen and are welcomed with a glass of fizz. Shown to our table once our jackets had been hung up, we perused the menu - a tasting menu of some 8 courses using all locally sourced produce and a fair bit of local foraging.Without going into the minutia of each dish, just to say that each one was fabulous. The creativity and flavour sensations from each dish are sublime, that they discovered birch branches when smoked gives a pink grapefruit flavour tells you that these guys know their onions from their shallots!Chef / Owner Lewis comes out before each dish to describe what it is you are eating, accompanied by anecdotes some of which are personal and some of which are restaurant / food related, but they all add something to the night and it is far more interactive than any other restaurant I've been to, but not in a tacky / forced way, just engaging with fellow diners all enjoying a wonderful shared experience.A mention too for their wine supplier who pairs each dish to a particular wine, some rosé, some orange, some white, some red - from regions far and wide and with great thought put into how each wine will compliment the food. The creativity is not purely on the food.Lastly, without thinking I am Scotland's top food critic, I've gone to the trouble of eating in each of the Michelin starred restaurants in our fine nation, all of which offer wonderful food and wine pairings. I would rate The Howff, on their food, on their wine and on the entire experience as easily on a par with most of the other award winning restaurants, and in many cases far ahead. No dress code, no overly fussy service, no white linen table cloths needed for this establishment, just creative, beautiful and delicious food served in a very Scottish convivial (and secret) setting. Can't wait to go back, although will have to as they are sold out for the next 2 months !

Absolutely awesome, what an amazing experience. A fun and interesting evening. The team were brilliant and attentive, next time I go the car is staying on the drive so I can go for the wine package as well. Thanks all, see you soon.

Not just great food, but an incredible experience. Loved to be able to hear the inspiration and thought process behind each dish. Also enjoyed the break in the middle to have a snoop in the kitchen and talk to all the other chefs. A must if your in the area or nearby, especially if you or your loved one is a foodie.

What was supposed to be a birthday “fine dining” experience turned out to be a 4-hour marathon of microscopic tiny snacks that dragged all night sat on the most uncomfortable wooden cafe-style chairs, most certainly not 4-5 hour friendly. Prepare yourself to have dinner before you arrive there and to pay £50 for an £8.52 bottle of screw-top Chilean wine (I googled it) and that was the cheapest available! I had high hopes for this place, but by the time (finally!) the 6th and last savoury course arrived, thinking it was going to be the ultimate in taste and portion, all my high hopes deflated into thin air. It was a tiny, thin slice of beef with a foam on top! I was desperate at that point to chew something. If you placed all 6 courses onto one plate they would barely make up a main course. Add to that, when I asked for a coffee or tea with my dessert I was told they didn’t have them as “nobody ever asks for them”! I find that very hard to believe, but may be because alcohol is pushed at diners so strongly. The ‘wine flight’ was pushed upon us as we entered at £55 per head. Not wanting to mix reds and whites we declined but the pressure was real. I was warned that a bottle of wine wouldn’t be much less in a final attempt to make us purchase it. I wondered at that point what amazing kinds of wine they must be providing, so the reality only added to my disappointment. Sorry but that was my experience. Definitely not worth £160.00 excluding drinks. A lovely meal at any of Dundee’s best restaurants with a bottle of champagne would cost less than we paid here. I had cheese on toast when I got home.

We have just had our first experience at the Secret Supper Club and it is by far the best meal we have had. Service was excellent, we were entertained and informed about each course, and learned a lot! Knock out plate after knock out plate of an 8 course menu with paired wine (for me). Our bites kept getting smaller as we didn’t want each course to end. I’m fairly sure they didn’t need to wash my plates as they were licked clean. (I expect they washed them anyway ;0). We’re not food snobs by any stretch but have been lucky enough to experience Michelin star(s) tasting menus a few times and they have all been fabulous. This gang topped the lot.

We went to The Howff last night - not sure exactly what to expect, but we’re blown away. The food was amazing. The whole evening was perfect from start to finish, the description of each course before it was served was interesting and entertaining, wine pairings were great and service was fabulous. A bit of a trek from Edinburgh, but well worth it. We will be back! Keep up the good work

What a place! These guys only open 16 months and already voted best fine dining in Dundee, and it's easy to see how - from stunning food, and every dish has a back story, served in a secret club where you need a password to get in, we loved every minute of the evening. Our only observation was that for us the wine list perhaps didn't have a great selection (although it was good to try something different in the wine flight), but that is just personal choice and may develop over time - the meal itself was stunning. We ate at Tommy Banks in York the weekend after, and the meal we had at Howff blew that meal out of the water - keep doing what you're doing, it's brilliant. The Howff team served us great tasting food with flair, theatre and fun - and we were there for over 4.5 hours!! Good portion sizes, and food you want to eat. These lads and lasses deserve every bit of support and accolade - go visit, you won't be disappointed - we will definitely be back :)
