wow! what a gem: homemade sourdough/carrot cake and even ice cream and fresh mint tea. We love this place and we are very lucky to have such a spot in Duns. We will be back (regularly)

The menu is succinct but the food is excellent. Soup and half sandwich very good - quality of bread and combinations of filling (baked ham, gherkins etc.) The portion sizes generous without any flim flam. Filter coffee with free refills - I don’t mind mind that they only serve filter coffee because it’s rich and strong and better than a half average cappuccino/latte. Lovely atmosphere, the decor accented with vintage cutlery and crockery. Service was very smooth and friendly in spite of the cafe being one waiter down that day. After a long walk around Duns castle we stumbled upon Maxwells and were really impressed - the owners were so welcoming and even made a fuss of our dog. Definitely recommend and we will be back.

First time in Maxwell's, great food, service and very reasonable priced. Met a friend, we had drinks to start with and were there long enough to enjoy the soup/sandwich combo and finished it off with another coffee. The staff were friendly and helpful, will definitely be back and recommend to friends

Thank you Maxwell’s for a fabulous Gluten Free lunch today. All home made. The yummy homemade jam and almond tart found its way onto my plate at the end. I’ve recommend you on GF Scotland. Thank you for looking after us so well.

Always absolutely delightful, all the staff I've been served by have been truly so kind, some of the highest quality produce goes into the lovingly prepared food. Honestly I'm blown away by how simple classics are so moreish here, and hands down *the* best brownie I have ever had the balance of sweet and salt, the way the crust just crumbles away to the most mouth watering and practically melty brownie. I cannot tell you how much it has become a favourite place to treat myself to a nice breakfast or lunch.Highly recommendedWheelchair accessibility: While a small cosy atmosphere is wonderful it can mean when it's busy it's not particularly accessible as there's little room to manuevre but they do their best to accommodate me if they can with my wide frame rollator and always seem happy to see me.

Really excellent bistro, we made a special trip to Duns from Dunbar to revisit this place and it was so worth it. Wonderful home baked bread and delicious cakes, we will be back.

Maxwell's is a gem. The lunches are delicious with fine fresh local produce and, oh my, the bistro evenings are a taste sensation. If critics went out to it they'd be sure to give it a Bib Gourmand. But don't tell everyone we want to be able to get seats...

Lovely little café to stop for sustenance, late morning. We had coffees, bacon roll and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs - lovely, great flavours. The home-made sourdough and ciabatta were particularly impressive. Great music (not too loud).

A favourite spot in Duns, the food is always delectable, with great attention to detail in presentation and service. The ambiance is refined and warm, with antique furniture and gentle jazz music playing. The monthly tapas nights are well worth attending as the team take time to create and serve beautiful small plates with quality ingredients - sometimes sourced from their recent travels!
