Nice spot to pop in for a quick pint . While a bit cold, it was nice to people watch outside .

Very disappointing food. Ordered the steak and it was cooked well done instead of medium. On the menu it says “triple cooked chips” but “lightly dunked in oil” would’ve been a more apt description. No steak knife was provided. My partner got the steak and pie which was better. It also took 35 min for the food.

Stopped in to get away from the chilly wind. Had some drinks and light bites. The salmon cakes were tasty. Crispy but not overly so. The hake was good but not to write home about. It was good enough for our purposes. Servers were very nice. I would say try it. I personally will try other place since we are just visiting.

My wife, two children (teen, pre-teen), and I stopped in for dinner on a recent visit to Edinburgh. It is in the historic Old Town neighborhood of Grassmarket, just down one slope off the Royal Mile near iconic Victoria Street. After an intense day of site-seeing all around the city, we landed at The Beehive for dinner just after an afternoon driving rain and also having just visited Greyfriar's Kirk/Cemetery and the National Museum of Scotland.Initially trying for The White Hart Inn a few doors down (too crowded for us), we opted instead for The Beehive. It totally suited what we were looking for AND what we needed. At first rebuffed from eating downstairs by the main bar - guessing underage kids are verboten here in Scottish pubs too near the bar - the friendly staff took us to the upstairs dining area (curiously, however, ALSO with a bar). But it was wonderful! A large room with ample space, we were seated at a table with some cozy and large easy chairs to sink into. We hunkered down and rested after being pretty tired and damp from the day's exploring.I ordered a pint of cask-conditioned dark ale and a dram of Bowmore to settle in with before our meal arrived: fish and chips for me, while the missus and kids all ordered the grilled cheese (white cheddar, I believe) plus tasty sides, and split an order of halloumi fries. It all was very good and hit the spot.Friendly waitstaff, great decor housed in a very old building, it was among our favorite dining experiences in Edinburgh. We would return!Kid-friendliness: Ample food options for kids.

Down to earth no nonsense pub with great beer, great, well priced pub food and great rock music.

Stopped in on a busy Saturday afternoon. Was seated right away upstairs and the food came quickly. Had a great meal. Our server had recently moved to Edinburgh and was feom Australia. She was wonderful and we chatted with her for a while. Cool atmosphere, overall great experience. Thank you!Vegetarian options: Great cheese toastie

We had the pleasure to sit upstairs. It felt like a huge great living room. All the staff were very nice.

The Beehive Inn in Edinburgh is history, history and more history. It is a typical pub vibe with wood everywhere. It sits in the shadows of the Edinburgh Castle with a legacy of 400 years. A counter service spot, this was a quick dinner.During my visit, I had the pleasure of sampling a few of their notable dishes.Fried HalloumiI loved the spice of the red chilli. The halloumi was both crispy and light.Hake & Romesco RagoutThe grilled hake fillet served with a romesco white bean ragout, salsa verde, and carrot crisps surprised me. Contrary to my initial expectation of a stew, the dish had a beautifully cooked fillet of fish laid over a rich but light ragout. The salsa verde added a zesty pesto type touch and the carrot crisps provided a special crunch.Fish & ChipsA visit to Scotland wouldn't be complete without chowing some Fish & Chips, and The Beehive Inn’s version did not disappoint. The hand-battered Atlantic haddock was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.Although I’m not a pub girl, The Beehive Inn proved to be a treasure trove of classics.

Told the bartender I wanted something local and she gave me 2-3 samples so I could pick something I really liked. Lots of tables so it wasn’t too crowded. Tried the tour of haggis. Super tasty.
