Had the worst time ever!!! When I was given a menu, it was a Christmas menu. I then went online to check the menu, only to be asked by a very arrogant and rude waitress. "What are you doing? Why are you on the phone?" Really??? I don't need a waitress to tell me that I can not use my phone, then expect you to just pay the added service charge! When I did not pay that, I was given the filthiest look ever! Will not be back there ever again!

On the 24th of December 2023, we visited this restaurant and we were delighted by the service. The staff put so much effort into ensuring that me and my grandmother had a safe and enjoyable meal, regardless of our severe gluten allergies. The manager came out and assured us that since everything on the menu was at risk of cross contamination, they would separately cook beef ribs in a pan, and although they weren’t really sure how good it would turn out, we really appreciated this wonderful service. The ribs were wonderful, my family were really pleased with the service, price, and most importantly, the food. I was placed on a table at the back of the restaurant, next to the toilet, even though the place was almost empty. Regarding the food, we ordered a seafood risotto that was not compatible with its price, the rice was uncooked, and the squid fish was chewy. Also, we got a mushroom and chicken pasta that was dry and poorly seasoned.I don't recommend this place. There are many better options in Edinburgh.

The service was nice even in the rush hours, price is acceptable. Taste is average, and the size of the disch was medium but enough. The only downside is service charge, where they include it into the bill without asking.

Last time I was in a Bella Italia it was in Leeds, but this didn't disappoint. Food was lovely, with a sensibly sized menu, service great and overall atmosphere perfect. Will definitely be back!

Waitress was impolite when I reminded her we had booked a table and the set menu which was an option on the booking form. She rudely said they don’t offer it in December. The food was tasty but too small a portion and the caramelised onion on the garlic bread was something from a tube or jar. It tasted like a sweet onion chutney but no onion in sight and definitely not homemade. Two small portions of pasta, one portion of garlic bread, one beer and one soda/lime £55. Very poor value for money. First and definitely last visit.

We had a very disappointing experience eating at this restaurant. I remember eating here a few years ago and having a great time, so we returned when we were in Edinburgh again but were disappointed. We saw something on the Bella Italia Hanover Street web page about a festive set menu. When we asked about this, our waitress told us they were not offering that menu (even though it was still on their website and the festive time just started). She asked her manager and he told us they weren't offering this menu in a way we perceived as uninterested as he was quickly walking past our table. I also tried to show the staff their own web page (while explaining I wasn't asking for an exception, I just wanted to inform them of what was going on in case they would get more customers with the same question) and they did not seem to care. We decided to just order food from the regular menu and wanted to enjoy our evening, because last time we ate here the food was great. The food was okay this time. It tasted okay and nothing was wrong with the food, but it also wasn't exceptionally good. When we finished eating and the waitress collected our plates, she asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. When we said no, she immediately brought us our bill even though we still had drinks left and had not asked for the bill yet. It felt rushed, even though the place was not busy at all (1/3 of the tables were occupied at most, including the upstairs seating area). We paid and after paying found out they had included a relatively big optional service fee without informing us. I did not see the bill before the waitress gave me the card machine. I would not have payed the optional service fee otherwise, I definitely would not have left a tip for the service we received. I would not describe the service as good or welcoming. I think this way of including the service fee is pretty deceptive and the restaurant should be more transparent about it. We were disappointed because this was a really big contrast compared to the lovely experience we had here a few years ago. We won't be visiting again.

Food quality is acceptable, however overpriced and not taking any offers currently due to "the festive period" although this isn't advertised online. Better options available locally at a similar price. Add 12.5 % onto bill as service charge. This was only apparent after paying the bill (admittedly should of checked prior to paying the bill, however it was not mentioned when paying or prior). So if you go please be aware of this.
Just had the full rack of ribs with fries, it was delicious! The meat literally fell off the bone. Excellent service from a friendly and very beautiful waitress who always had a smile on her face. Highly recommend! Will be back again.

Perfect experience from start to finish.Speedy service, we got a seat straight away which was a surprise considering Edinburgh was insanely busy.All staff were lovely and welcoming.Food was amazing, especially the garlic flat bread! Best i've ever tasted!
