Important to first stress that all of our courses were delicious and expertly prepared ! (bar the opening onion broth - a bit insipid, not needed) everything else was what you’d expect from a Michelin starred restaurant dining experience. The 3 star rating is related to the portion sizing and overall value for money. There are two options for dinner ‘6 course tasting’ and 3 course la carte, the different being £25.00. We chose 3 course a la carte £95 per head. The portion sizes we received would be correct for a tasting menu, but you expect more food on the plate for a 3 course a la carte dinner. The staff were nicely attentive and really efficient (especially when it can to refilling our water glasses which we began to suspect was to fill us up).Heron offers 2 x wine parings for the a la carte menu. The wine selections were also excellent, but like the portion sizes the measures they give are the least you can get away with. This maybe part of an ‘ethos’ - less is more, but this was a dinner, not a lunch menu, and not lunch pricing. The price of 3 a la carte menus, 2 wine pairings (that’s 6 glasses total), 3 glasses of champagne, coffees + service charge left us £538 lighter and a feeling we’d need to share a chippy on our way home.I have enjoyed lots of great Michelin starred & recommended meals over the past few years. This was absolutely on par with other menus, however, I’ve never felt peckish after finishing a meal before.

We’ve been to Heron twice, before and after they were awarded their Michelin star and both times the food was excellent! Here you will find Scottish flavors fused with European techniques and ingredients. They have a great wine list too. We found the service and the atmosphere to be quite relaxed for our taste, but overall we enjoyed our visits.

A carefully crafted dining experience presented in an uncomplicated fashion. Delicious flavour combinations. Will definitely return.

I have been eagerly awaiting this meal and it absolutely lived up to my expectations. I had the vegetarian a la carte menu and was blown away by the range of flavours and textures - especially the Roscoff Onion and the courgette three ways. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, too.

Such a lovely restaurant, very well appointed with enough space. The food was so good, really hard to fault any dish and the wines were exceptional. Everything was awesome, the staff were so friendly, professional and knowledgable. We will be back again soon.

Came here for my birthday and had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Sublime food, excellent service and a lovely place. Staff were very friendly and had a nice chat to many of them - I’d highly recommend if you’re after a high quality dining experience.

Birthday meal for my husband whist on a short break to Leith. We chose the tasting menu and it was a taste sensation . The staff are knowledgeable and attentive, without being intrusive and the whole experience was so special. We will absolutely be coming back and have no hesitation in recommending this little gem to everyone .. the personally signed birthday card was a lovely touch. Thankyou Heron for a memorable and fabulous evening!

We had a wonderful night at Heron prior to Christmas. The food was fantastic and well deserving of their star, and the wine pairing really interesting (in the best way). The service was gracious and down to earth, and we really enjoyed the background provided on the wine. Bravo.

We received a very warm welcome by all the friendly staff and loved the surroundings, music and general atmosphere. A particular shout out goes to the sommelier whose advice and recommendations were incredibly useful. She really listened to what we were looking for and as a result the wine choices were excellent. The food was fabulous and it is hard to pick out a favourite from all of the dishes we enjoyed, though everyone loved the scallop and hazelnut caviar with a creamy citrus sauce (reviewer's privilege means I highlight the veal sweetbreads). All of us agreed that we would be more than happy to return.

Not very good service as for Michelin star restaurant. Waiters talk like robots and I had a feeling that they want to run away asap and go and talk to each other. Tables are dirty all the time, you need to clean by yourself. They see this messy table but they don’t clean it.Dishes are broken, maybe it is part of decoration, I don’t know but it looks so cheap. There is no nice interior design, very dark place and it is overpriced. I visited many places with Michelin star in different countries and I can say that this place I like less. Please change the interior design, put a proper light (my eyes were hurt), let your employees wear a uniform.Nobody has a tidy look: torn jacket, unironed shirt, everyone wearing different type of clothes. You can’t identify waiter. Waiters are mixed with the clients.Overall, it is overpriced. We paid 250£ for two without alcohol. Service charge is 12.5% and you must pay, although there is no good service.Food was good except of the desserts but it was not wowww.I live in Dubai and a simple coffee shop looks better than your restaurant in terms of the service and interior design .Don’t be offended but please take it to your consideration to be better. Best of luck

Heron was a one of a kind lunch experience, supported by a wonderfully friendly staff that made this place a must visit. Their cocktail list features some really good drinks and their food options are excellent, with favorites being the Veal sweetbread, potato latke, and the dessert cheese. Heron was my favorite lunch spot in Edinburgh, and 100% worth the visit!

Fine and delicate just as the name itself. Each dish is a little adventure for your mouth to take. Don't rush, enjoy it. You will be tempted! So tempted to eat too quickly. It's just that good, you might forget about everything and question yourself. Absolutely marvelous.

Went here as a hogmanay treet with 2 friends, who are both pescatarians. We had the taster menu and we all agreed how good it was. The 2 friends were well catered for with alternative dishes and we had a excellent selection of meat and fish. The food was exceedingly well presented so not only did it taste superb, it looked superb. All the dishes were done as they should be with the venison being tender and suculent, something not always easily done, with very good descriptions of each dish by the waiter. The staff were very friendly and attentative but without being annoying, just the right amount of contact. Well done for a lovely lunch. One thing that was nice to see was once we, and another customer had left, the staff had to clear away everything and set up for the evening hogmanay dinner. It was really nice to see them all sitting, including kitchen staff having their food, something you don't normaly see, but on such an afternoon, it was good to see them altogether. Loved it so can see us going again.Wheelchair accessibility: A section has level access from the entrance with the toilets also with kevel access.

My husband and I visited Scotland from Florida, USA. We had the most wonderful experience at Heron. We sat at the corner of the bar and each did the full tasting with wine pairings. Our bartender/server was from Chicago and was so kind and helpful. Each person that brought us a dish gave the most wonderful detailed explanations of each component. Our sommelier was out of this world. You could feel his passion for what he does and his knowledge was vast. My husband and I did different wine pairings so it was fun to try both along with each dish. Overall, an excellent experience. The service and attention we were provided along with the exceptionally delicious dishes will make this a meal we will not forget. Thank you, Heron!
