My wife and I visited this restaurant as the place we were staying at, highly recommended it to us. Hearth is what is says it is, Scottish food with a bit of fun. We did three courses along with lovely glasses of wine with each course. The service was personalised, attentive and we particularly enjoyed Leena’s knowledge in food and wine. The food was beautiful not just to look at but also to taste. Thank you to the entire team for such an exceptional evening. Highly recommend Hearth!

This review is strictly for the restaurant.A big disappointment.I heard wonderful things about the restaurant from a friend and I finally had the opportunity to try it. The menu looked interesting.I ordered the venison burger. It was pretty terrible. The burger itself was extremely dry, and had no flavor. I would put this to probably one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had.If you’re paying 19 pounds for a burger, it better be special and this was not. I didn’t complain because I didn’t want to embarrass my friend. The chips were also terrible SOGGY and limp as if they have been sitting there old.So that I’m not just complaining, please take this advice and make some changes. Serve fresh and great chips and consider flavoring the burger more add additional ingredients to the meat so that there’s more moisture or fat. There are many great examples of burgers around the world. There’s no reason why you can’t have a fantastic one yourself. As far as the service it wasn’t great either.

Disappointing...This was the first time I had visited the Hearth restaurant at The Old Mill Inn at Brodie, on the back of some good reviews from others (as well as some great reviews and photos online!), but unfortunately I will not be returning... Maybe it's changed hands or maybe was a 'bad day at the office' but I'll not be going back to find out. We'd went mid-afternoon on a Sunday during a fairly quiet period so it can't have been down to being too busy. The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a nice feel about it. Location is nice too.The menu looks great, so it was a promising start, we thought the prices were high but had hoped that this would be reflected in the quality... It wasn't.Unfortunately the food was sub-par and overpriced.- For starter I had the woodpigeon with jasmine rice and a red wine jus (£14.50) - The jus was tasty, can't really go wrong with rice, but the woodpigeon itself was very overdone, dry and chewy, as if it had been forgotten about during cooking. My wife had the spicy chili chicken with parsnip slaw (£13.50) - The flavours there were okay, but at barely half a chicken breast the price here seems obscene, would expect that for an average pub main course.- For main I opted for the standard fish and chips (£20), this was very disappointing, especially for the price. for the first course to be overcooked, this was definitely slightly undercooked, fish, chips and peas all could've done with another 5 minutes cooking, wasn't even sure whether the fish was edible! Presentation wasn't anything exciting either. My wife went for the roast beef (£24), which sounds incredible going by the menu description. Was presented nicely and there was some good flavours in here but certainly not worth the £24 price tag. Potatoes and Yorkshire pudding felt slightly undercooked and beef was average. The staff were friendly and nice, but the service needs some work. It is a pet hate of mine when plates are removed from the table whilst others are still eating, basics really, but this happened to us on both our starters and mains, giving the feel they wanted us out the door. We did not hang around for dessert or coffee...Felt pretty surprised and hard done by seeing the bill for 4 (3 starters, 4 mains and soft drinks) come in at over £150...

This is about the restaurant. The food is overpriced to begin with, however if they had been able to elevate and present simple food well, I would have been happy. We had heard it was a good restaurant from our neighbours in Grantown on Spey. My partner's starter of pigeon was disgusting. Both of our starters were very small also , priced at 12 and 15 pounds each. Our venison mains were inedible with bizarrely small pieces of venison served with a dairy milk chocolate sauce , a tea cup of mince and tatties, with two small pieces of raw vegetables. I was shocked but determined to enjoy my birthday. We stated our complaints, were consoled, then charged full price. When we spoke to the owner and offered to pay for drinks and starters, but not my main course. I felt very generous overall, he then became very rude, condcsendingand abusive. Our evening was ruined, please do not believe this man and his restaurant deserve their four stars. I highly recommend you go elsewhere!

We went in for the festive lunch last Sunday. We were welcomed by Leena whose service throughout the afternoon was warm and friendly. We indulged ourselves with 3 courses from their lunch menu. We both started with the Prawn cocktail and Chicken Liver Parfait which were excellent. Followed by the traditional roast turkey, which was great with all the trimmings. I finished off with the Yule log, which did not just look very festive but was an absolute delight, my partner had sticky toffee which looked and tasted incredibly good. This restaurant is a wee gem tucked away and an absolute delight from start to finish.

My friend had chosen this eatery for a pre Christmas treat. Sadly the food was dire and as she had organised the booking I didn't want to say anything so ate what I could. I ordered brisket. Firstly the entire plate of food was luke warm. The beef was tender but frankly it was so totally tasteless. The "duck fat roasted potatoes" were smooth, pale brown, lightly roasted and had no hint of being cooked in duck fat. The Yoorkshire pudding was risen, burnt on the bottom and doughy and partially raw inside. The broccoli florets were mostly stem, which you would have needed a steak knife to cut. The sprouts may have been fine, but I gave them a swerve. The carrots were edible, but tasted of nothing again. The gravy served nicely in a little copper pot was pale brown, very thin and again luke warm and lacking any strength of taste of anything. It really was poor given the price of £21.00. The desert of a Yule Log priced at £10.50 and arrived standing up! I even commented to the smiley waitress that she had a good job getting it to the table without it falling over! It was a slice of recently frozen, mass produced cake. A half inch thick slice of the sweetest most unpleasantly artificial tasting cake I have the misfortune to be served in many years. It was accomanied by the equivalent of two teaspoons of amaretto cream and what was supposed to be a small scoop of ice cream. However the scoop was actually hollow and melted into a puddle shortly after. Then to add insult to injury some weird form of tiny hard hundreds and thousands had been sprinkled over the top. Again I said nothing and did eat some of it, but only because I knew I was paying through the nose for it. Goodness this place is lovely to walk into and the staff we encountered were really attentive and pleasant. However, if they are going to produce food of that quality every day then I would not recommend. Currently they are over promising and undelivering on the quality of their food which is also not value for money.

We booked for Sunday lunch and were given a 1.5 hour time slot. The restaurant has been given a complete revamp with the decor and everthing looked very festive and sparkly. Unfortunately that was the nicest thing about the lunch. The food was pretty awful. I had turkey my friend had the beef. I think the veg were frozen the “goose fat” potatoes were tasteless and the turkey was a bit watery. My friend said the beef was also tasteless. The dessert was appalling (although I did eat it) thin slice of frozen Yule log tiny scoop of icecream similar tiny squirt of cream then some sort of hard hundreds and thousand on the plate. Not value for money at £10.50 main dishes £21 Would not recommend the food here if this is normal standard. Expensive and poor quality ?

Wonderful evening meal on the 23rd Nov along with breakfast on the 2 days we spent at the Inn. The ambiance, service and quality of the meal, and wines, couldn’t be faulted. Attention to detail, locally sourced produce, imaginative twist on traditional Scottish fare made our stay an experience we can’t wait to repeat.

Lovely table, and the food first class, menu explained in detail and all options discussed. The food was very good and no rush between courses which is really nice. Can't speak highly enough of the owners and staff who obviously have a passion for what they deliver. many thanks for a lovely stay and will be back soon.

Absolutely perfect for a break away. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed superbly comfortable, the restaurant amazing, the breakfasts likewise and the owners and staff as genuinely friendly and helpful as it gets. There really aren't any more superlatives to describe the Old Mill Hotel.
