Lovely host in an historic house, very comfortable bed and room with an excellent breakfast. It's a bit out of the way but beautiful scenery.

Popped in for lunch whilst staying up in the borders, ok so the place was a little chaotic as the owner was stressing out with routing some cables in and couldn't find the right size cable clips but that aside, we ordered the haggis and pork burgers and wow!, they did not disappoint, freshly cooked with some salad and home made (proper) chips!. The owner (I think), chatted on whilst we had our lunch and was quite an amiable chap. Left feeling full and happy with a good lunch at a good price. I think if you are a local here, you could have a cracking evening here.

Very disappointed with our stay at Tushielaw. Received no welcome/greeting or even acknowledgement of meal times. Not even an introduction to who this older man was? Was told "Key in door upstairs," as way of entry. My parents were to meet us for dinner and after one drink where the person behind the bar sighed his way over, We decided to eat elsewhere due to the atmosphere! Although water bottles are provided, the tap water is undrinkable and the bath water is brown. The television remotes were semi-unusable for the TV. At breakfast, we weren't told anything or provided with menus and the gentleman who pointed the room out was no where to be found. After ringing the doorbell for attention a younger man who was reading a book asked us what we wanted, I asked about cooked breakfast he didn't understand us and that's when the older gentleman begrudgingly came to us. When I asked for an egg, he sighed and said okay. My egg was runny and undercooked. Wasn't offered brown bread for toast. The breakfast room had a very silent, moody atmosphere - we weren't asked how our night was or anything like that. All in all just a bad experience. I saw some reviews saying that they were treated like family, I wouldn't even treat a stranger let alone a guest how we were treated. We won't be back. It's a shame the new owners have tarnished our view of Tushielaw Inn.

Came here at around 9:30 pm on a Monday night. We were following the Race Across Scotland (one of our party was running in it), which had a checkpoint in Ettrick. We were desperate for a drink and came across this lovely pub.Coming in, it was like being welcomed into a family home. We ordered drinks and the owners were asking about what we were doing in Scotland. We explained and the lady (apologises can't remember her name) said "Have any of you eaten?" to which we replied "No" and even though she had shut the kitchen, continued to make us Vegetable soup and sandwiches. Something she didn't have to do but was so kind. Her son was lovely to chat with and taught us about the local area. They even donated to our charity page for the Race which made our night, we certainly didn't expect that. The kindness of these people is amazing. If you are in the area, try this place. The friendly service on its own is a reason to visit.

Unbelievably helpful and friendly when nearly 100 hungry and tired bike packers rolled through without notice. Went out of their way to make sure we had food water and rest when they really didn't have to. Just brilliant people in a beautiful location.
