Arrived about 1 o’clock to have a wine with two friends to then be seated to a room with only us in it , I had a table booked for the evening and just if we could get a table in the main bar at night time . The waitress said that was only for guests and we would sitting the the same dark room in the corner table. When I said we we’re just going leave it as we did not come to the George to sit in the side room in a with a Table stuck behind the door she then offered us another table which was not much better, there loss as they would have got about £150 from us with meals and drinks . Very poor customer service

Stayed here for 3 days mid From the room (The Barn). Basically a small mansion lovely big living area with open fire high ceilings huge dining area and of course huge bedrooms. Absolutely stunning stay Bar is cosy and warm. Very inviting staffs knowledge on whiskey. Shout out to Ivan with the groomed moustache. The food in the main restaurant Salmon trio and the classic Prawn cocktail. Really nice well presented and clearly very fresh To follow we had beef cheeks cooked to perfection ate them with a spoon. So tender and melt in the mouth. Dessert was a bruled brioche french toast with cheese cake and fruit compote Amazing job guys we will definitely be back soon

Stayed for a night at the George, room number 6, wow what a spacious room with jacuzzi bath in it. Comfy bed, could be a bit loud in the night because of live music, but we loved the musics and we should have joined in downstairs to enjoy live music. It didnt really bother us. Lovely breakfast, freshly baked pain au chocolate and croissant, and beauitful kipper fish, friendly team. Will deffo come back.

Lovely environment and beautiful traditional pub. Food nice, had pie, some had steak meat was wonderful but the veg, Carrot was nice and soft but the brocoli hard, same both nights. Can someone ask the chief to taste the veg hopefully he is over 35 and actually likes veg. Mo was disappointed but to be honest she moans at everything never satisfied.

Went in for food today and have to say both meals were amazing! We got the fish and chips and venison burger was just expecting typical pub grub but the George is next level and certainly delivers on freshness and quality. Thoroughly enjoyed it and ate every bite and the drinks and staff were brilliant! Will be back and recommend. Great place!

This only pertains to the bar food, not the hotel. So, the good bits. The bar is very cosy, lots of authentic old oak furniture, blazing fire (even used coal and peat!) and it would be, I imagine, very atmospheric on a dreich night. Sadly that was about it for the good stuff. The food was mediocre at best. Venison burger at £13 very ordinary and pretty much tasteless. The "hand cut chips" had clearly been hand cut by Mr. Booker or the brothers Brake, frozen and then reheated. The salad was limp and the dressing very acidic. But it is Scotland in October. Fresh leaves not in abundance. The plate of salmon (Bradan Orach) was frankly a joke. Tiny amount of smoked salmon that had probably died of old age, a salmon mousse that didn't taste of actual salmon, a partly thawed bread roll with no butter (advertised as crusty bread) and two slices of cucumber (the pickle). All of that for a modest £16. (By way of comparison, we had a lunch in Avignon, France last month that cost the same (one plate of black cod in a mustard and orange sauce and a linguine with cep mushrooms) but was from a different planet in that it had actually been cooked by a chef. ) The "service" consisted mainly of slapping the plates down on our table. To say that the server's social skills needed improving would be generous. No class, zero finesse and no real interest. Again the contrast with France is huge. I'm sorry to say this is a very typical experience of eating out in touristy Scotland. Lots of promise, lovely old building but dire food that would not even be fed to hungry dogs in France and service that was utterly clueless. The really sad thing is that with about 5% more thought and 50% more effort it could have been really good. But it seems the George just can't be bothered. And therefore we won't be bothered about returning.

This hotel is FANTASTIC. From the staff to the rooms, I cannot fault anything. We have visited a few times now and myself, who works with the public and have to be careful with recommendations to my own customers, would have no hesitation in giving this a 5* rating

I've passed the George many times and only went in on a recommendation and we were blown away, so had three days and evenings there and a wonderful afternoon on the terrace, enjoying cold beer and sunshine in October. The staff were exceptional. Everyone engaged with us and genuinely wanted to make sure everything was perfect. It was a pleasure to give tips. Food was excellent and there was an outstanding whisky selection. The live music was amazing. Can't wait to return and will stay in the George next time. My new favourite place!

We were a group of 12 friends who stopped in on our way back to Glasgow from our annual Halloween trip to the Mull of Kintyre. We weren't sure what we needed, but The George was absolutely spot on. The service was exceptional. Sean was a great host who catered for our every need and entertained us along the way. The food was exactly what we needed. Kim said the macaroni cheese was possibly the best she'd ever had, the roast pepper and tomato soup was delicious and all the other vegan and non-vegan dishes were met with similar accolades. A stop at The George on our way back to Glasgow will now be part of our annual tradition. See you next year Sean

Absolutely shock and applaud by the food and staff. I've have visited numerous times over the years and has been a favourite of mine until tonight. Something has changed! I assume chef and management... The menu is quite basic and the food delivered is far from what was before and not as per described. In addition, the food was cold and not worth the cost. The staff were notified and given chance to do good, but did nothing. Their attitude comes across as"so what", and I suspect this happens alot. Unfortunately I have to say avoid, to save any disappointment.

Food here last year few years has been excellent. This year gone down hill badly. Bitterly disappointed, food cold supposedly veg to come with venison loin should have just said poorly cooked broccoli, chips soft and clearly cooked dirty oil. Wish listened to local knowledge regarding the food not being up to standard.

I understand the waiting staff have to engage with the customers, but when your waiter comes tp your table and randomly growls, and i mean growls at you, something is amiss! My view if the waiter was that he was immature and a child trying his best but this put us off going there a second night. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. Service was quick and very reasonably priced

The George Hotel was a perfect overnight stay for our visit to Inverary Castle the next day. We found free parking in the Jail Square next door, room was spacious & clean, & our pork loin dinners in the classis inn-style restuarant was one of the best of our vacation. Breakfasts the next morning were also very good - they had good options for my wife's gluten free needs.
