We visited the restaurant on the Saturday the 9th March 1pm. We were a party of 4, 3 which were vegan. My mum chose fish & chips. We had asked if the soup was vegan which it was (fab) Most aren't? The sandwich selection had no vegan option, when we asked they checked with chef & we had options which was great. We love soup & a sandwich at lunch. The soup & sandwiches came out, cheese & tomato & cheese & pickle with a lovely portion of homemade coleslaw & side salad which was really appreciated. Usually it's just left off because they don't have vegan coleslaw. So this was just lovely, we also got a small tub of (v ) mayonnaise too.lovely to dip our chips in. We also got vegan puddings which were delicious ?Thank-you so much for providing vegan options. Our chef was luke, he deserves a gold star for going above & beyond. ? The restaurant was very busy & he still went out his way. Thank-you to all staff who were serving that day too. So helpful & with a lovely smile. Well done team Bowfield! We will be back. ??

We went to The Bowfield hotel. Booked a table at The Plumpy Duck restaurant for dinner with family. From start to finish we had such a wonderful time. The food was amazing, 2 of the party were vegan & they catered to a high standard. The staff were very attentive even though it was super busy. I took 1 star off as we ordered chips which never came, tbh we were very full so it was OK. We did say when we got our bill & they apologised & took them off bill. The surroundings & atmosphere is very cosy. We can't wait to go back. Maybe another meal option for vegan would be good. Well done to all the chefs behind the scenes.

Food variable and staff very undertrained, My meal was not as described and when I queried it with the manageress (?), she denied part was missing ! I showed another waitress the menu on my phone whereupon the manageress came across and said they’d run out of it. We had to ask three times for water. The service was very very slow and the dessert order was wrong. Amusingly, they had run out of vanilla ice cream and two of us had to change ( not a problem ) but then three were given vanilla ice cream despite the menu stating custard was the accompaniment ! One member of our table got her dessert long after we had finished and she said it was awful and again, not as described. The whole evening was a bit of a disaster and the table behind ours was also complaining vociferously about the poor standard of their meal and demanding a discount. We were given one without asking but would still not choose to return.

Had dinner with friend and it was very pleasant, warm decor, great history about the hotel. Staff were very polite and did everything to make us comfortable. And the chefs were singing Eilidh, Lewis, Arlene and Gary were amazing. Thank you

Beautiful restaurant, food was first class and the staff were so pleasant. Really helpful and lovely with the children. Order the feather of beef, you won't be disappointed! Nicest I ever tasted.

Searched for somewhere different to eat, and found the Plumpy Duck, great food, service and very reasonable prices, BUT! Card only which I hate!!! Which puts us off going back, sorry ?

This was our first time at The Plumpy Duck and at Bowfield Hotel. For dinner we ordered classic burgers, fajitas, chicken in whisky sauce, pan fried hake served on potato and chorizo stew, traditional steak pie, and 3 sides, seasonal veg, onion rings and fries. Sticky toffee pudding and biscotti cheese cake. There was 6 of us and no one had anything negative to say about the food. It was delicious and all dishes were beautifully presented. Even our sides were amazing, onions rings were so light, and how can carrots taste so good?! Dining out can be hit or miss as the standards are rarely consistent. I have to take my hat off to the chefs! The restaurant staff were all friendly and we were well looked after. I agree with some reviews that it was quite dark but we avoided using our phones to see our menus, so it couldn’t have been that bad lol. I disagree with reviews that it was over priced, we thought it was reasonably priced for food that tasted and looked great.

We ate at the Plumpy Duck whilw staying at Bowfield for our mini-moon. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and delicious food. The duck main was particularly good.

Me and my partner of 30 years were celebrating our anniversary so opted for a bit of luxury…so we came last week for a lovely meal to the Pumpy Duck. We were served by the lovely Eilidh, with a bright smile indeed, I would highly recommend her servicing. We both opted for the Roast chicken which was delish!!! Would definitely order again! We then trotted through to the bar and were served by the delightful Calum who gave us excellent recommendations so I would love to get served by him again! ;) Overall, great service and fantastic food..would definitely visit again!

This is one of the best experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. The waiter called Jamie made it a very pleasant meal. Not only were we served delicious food but we were also told some fun things to do in the area that were very helpful.

Great local restaurant, food always great and service equally as good. Opted for the harissa chicken and it did not disappoint!

Our prepaid voucher was valid for 1 year but we were asked for £2 to cover aprice increase? Really !!!??? Sandwiches unimaginative and cold from fridge. Cakes were tasty but again cold. Scones tasty. Staff very pleasant. A little thought could improve this afternoon tea and make it the treat it should be. Very sombre atmosphere - a little more light could also make the restaurant cheerier during the day. All easily fixed ?

Poor service. Slow and inattentive servers. Menu limited. Food mediocre. Will not dine here again. As members very disappointed.

We've been members of Bowfield for a while and usually use the cafe but thought we'd use the restaurant today. Went in, empty apart from two tables, waited by the door but no staff around so took a seat at a table. Waitress with long blond hair, looked like she was the manager, approached and asked if we'd booked, we said we hadn't and asked, "Do we need to?" We were told, "Well yes." We said OK we'd just go back to the cafe and were told, "No it's ok we can seat you but you can't sit at this table you'll need to move as it's set for an afternoon tea." The table had 4 cups on it... would have been easier to lift the 4 cups than ask us all to move seats. We moved to the next table and sat for 5-10 mins with 3 waitresses standing at the side, not bothering to bring us any menus or acknowledge us. We got up and went back in to the cafe. The waitress who had been speaking to us then came in to the cafe and stood talking to a few women for the majority of time we were in eating our lunch. Pretty poor customer service, not very friendly and felt very unwelcome, especially considering the place was empty bar two tables. Guess we know why the place was empty if that's how she speaks to people. Would rather stand in the cafe chatting to people than actually serving.
