The food was mediocre at best. However, the restaurant was so cold I kept my jacket on. Ruined the experience completely.

Had a Christmas night here. Pre booked in advanced. We were one of the last groups booked in for 8 pm. By 10pm, we had only been served our starter and main, and we were patiently waiting on our desserts. That is a course per hour, not very swift. At this point, the place is supposed to be closed and the staff were all cleaning and we were the last group in the restaurant. We were eventually given deserts at around 10:20. We could clearly see the staff were bothered that we were still there, and we felt rushed to get out. I feel this could be improved upon as all the food was ordered days in advance. The food was ok for the price point. The cheese cake was more like cream cake, very sickening and most of us who ordered it couldn't finish the serving. Turkey was very dry and only had a few table spoons of gravy.

We regularly come here as a family and cannot say enough good things about it. The whole team are so lovely, from the owner and the manager to the waiting staff. The food is always delicious, served in a timely fashion (important when eating with kids haha), and great value for money. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.

Waited 30 mins for our drink order to be taken and 1 hr 50 mins before our main course arrived, despite it being not that busy. Told the delay was due to them waiting for some guests to arrive, who didn't, but noone approached us. Manageress has terrible attitude. Even charged us for late cancellation which came to £40 despite us spending £523. Main issue here was she didn't even tell us they were doing that, only saw it on receipt next morning (yes - my mistake). Went downstairs for drinks afterwards, only 2 bar staff. Massively understaffed. Left and went to the Cave. Food was decent and staff fine but manager let's place down.

Went to check out the woodpecker today to have a drink and check out the place to possibly book the venue for a birthday party . Went in at 3.40pm and was told by staff they are only serving food can't just do drinks. The place was dead they literally had 1 table of 4 people not one other customer to be seen anywhere. Puts me of from ever going back. In this climate they must be on top. To turn customers away is shocking customer service I would avoid this venue altogether if visiting lanark for food or drinks. Better off with a Greg's.
Had an excellent lunch for 7 adults and 2 children. High chair for wee girl. Sunday roasts....beef was so tender and veg delicious. Both the haggis pakora and scallops starter . All great value?. Grandson had a mishap with glass of cola and staff (Ellie) were there to help right away?. Great service...attentive but not overbearing ??.Kid-friendliness: lots of kids and we'll recieved

Superb food and a lovely place to spend a couple of hours. Couple or family friendly. Fanatic value - not expensive. The best restaurant in Lanark by a distance.

Booked a table for 2 we only wanted one course and was told we would have to wait a little longer for our meal, 55 minutes later our order arrived and it went downhill from there Main 1 cajun halumi skewers - halumi and vegetables ok bread the skewer was served on doughy and under cooked the chips served with it anemic and greasy Main 2 chicken& haggis balantine- chicken over cooked and dry, potatoes overpowered with butter whisky, sauce not very nice best part of the meal was the broccoli service - once our order was taken and our drinks served we were ignored until our meal arrived at no point were we asked how our meal was until we had to ask for the bill. when our server then asked how the food was when we told her not very good she mumbled an apology and brought the bill. Cost - nearly £40 for 2 mains 1 glass of wine and a soft drink , portions were not that large and for the standard of food well overpriced Would i recommend the Woodpecker NO will i return NO better food at better prices to be had else where in Lanark
