Absolutely superb fish and chip shop, great variety of choices and all cooked to perfection. The wife and I use this chippy at least once a week and we have never been disappointed, everything is cooked fresh to order and is always ready on time. This chippy massively outshines any other chippy in the area and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

We had 2 lovely fish suppers from here, sat in the garden opposite to eat.

What the Machars lacks in quantity of food outlets, it more than makes up with quality, and the Frying Scotsman is right up there with the quality. A great resource for Wigtown.

The worst fish and chips we've ever had, and I mean that. As for the tomato sauce, there's just no words to describe it.

Great takeaway spot. We had the Haddock and Chips. Large portions and cooked to perfection. We’re only here a short time but we’ll be back.

After seeing the bad reviews for the chippy in Newton Stewart we searched online and found this gem. Cooked fresh to order and a lovely location to boot. The harbour is a great place to eat the food afterwards with views of the nature reserve and benches.

I note the average stars for this chippy is 4.4. I must have gone on a bad day. Bought chips and curry sauce, and donner meat & chips. I think they mixed up the donner meat and chips. The donner meat was over cooked and the chips were part cooked. The only edible thing was the curry sauce. Service was good, but the time taken to cook food was long.

Have visited several times and enjoyed the fish and chips and this visit was not different. It can be busy but is tasty and fresh with good sized portions. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Fish was tasty but hardly any batter at all , chips wasn’t very good . Friendly staff but not worth £16 for 2 fish and 2 chips
