Booked a 2 night break for Xmas 2022. Renwicks restaurant excellent on Xmas Eve ... but .. offered an upgrade on room to find that having paid extra, we were in the middle of the canine toilet area. The room and bathroom were freezing as the heating had not been switched on ! The Xmas lunch was served in a room which resembled a works canteen. The meal was a carvery and quality very poor. Roast Beef available but no Yorkshire puddings. Turkey was OK but no bread or other sauces. No roast potatoes ! The stuffing was inedible as was the Xmas pudding. The whole meal was not hot when served and it was served onto COLD plates. Similarly the hot food in the evening was lukewarm and again served on COLD plates. When requesting the bill on leaving, found that we and others were being overcharged. This was resolved. Submitted complaint to MacDonald Hotels which has not been resolved as the option offered was 1 night bed and breakfast which means we would have to fund Dinner. Not what I would have expected from a hotel chain which presents itself as a leading brand. Will definitely not be back !

Spent one night at this Hotel and was impressed by the venue itself. Surrounded by it's golf course there are some lovely paths to explore. The restaurant food is very good with plenty of choice to suit everyone's taste. There was a problem with serving a hot breakfast on the Saturday morning but Pauline, at reception, could not have been more apologetic and dealt with the situation in a very professional and understanding manner.

Waited over an hour for fish and chips. It was ridiculously over priced.£18 for fish and chips. Only 4 choices on the bar menu.Oven chips and a small fish. No lemon. Tiny pot of mushy peas.

I stayed at the Macdonald Cardrona hotel and went down to the restaurant at 5.15pm to have an early dinner. The staff were young and very polite and friendly, they made me feel at ease, which is especially important if you are dining alone, nothing was too much trouble. I started my meal with the feta and onion chutney tart which was moist and melted in the mouth. For the main, I had the pan fried coley which was cooked to perfection and fell into juicy flakes at the touch of a fork. It was accompanied by a delicious bed of al-dente broccoli spears and a sumptuous potato cake which was moist with an earthy, buttery flavour and speckled with dill to compliment the fish. It was accompanied with a delicate but slightly tangy lemon sauce which perfectly complimented the other elements of the dish. Definitely 15 out of 10 and compliments to the chef! At the beginning of the meal, I declared to the waiter that I was only going to have two courses but was enjoying the meal so much I decided to have a dessert. I was tempted by the white chocolate and red velvet cheesecake. The pate of this cheesecake was firm but crumbled pleasantly under the fork. The white chocolate flavour was the perfect pairing with the cream cheese, the whole thing was laced with sweet juicy cherries which exploded in the mouth and added a tartness which perfectly balanced out the sweet, creaminess of the cheesecake. It was accompanied by a delicate chantilly cream with a subtle vanilla flavour. I washed the whole lot down with a pint of ice-cold draught Moretti as befits a hot July evening. The whole experience of being in this restaurant is a sensory delight as it overlooks the beautiful undulating hills and vales of the Tweed Valley. You cannot put a price on such beautiful surroundings or on such fantastic food. I'll definitely be back.

The food as always in the restaurant is very good. Good choice and the kitchen is happy accommodate your needs ie no choice of scrambled egg on toast at breakfast, however the kitchen were happy to help.

Extortionate prices and pitful quantities. See main Cardrona Hotel page for the full review. I would have given only one star had it not been for the pleasant staff.

Service at this restaurant is absolutely disgraceful. Shockingly slow, incompetent waiting staff. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place. The food is horribly overpriced, nice enough but not worth the money. Would never return.
