Good restaurant with an amazing location and very friendly staff. Could do with a more varied menu and better pricing, limited food available.

Not good variety of food especially halal or vegetarian, though staff and atmosphere is great

Beautiful views, bustling atmosphere and fantastic food. Really enjoyed the Hake as a main and my mother in law thoroughly enjoyed the steak. Staff were really friendly and up for a bit of natter, especially at the bar.

to say that I'm shocked ... that's putting it mildly. horror. we rent a room for a day with children to enjoy nature, swimming pool, spa and quiet rest. I didn't get any of this. the pool is not working. The spa is not allowed with children. at 9 pm they decided to nail the shelf and knock the hammer for 5 minutes. my children do not eat food that is cooked in a restaurant (like all children they love fast food), especially for this, rest is created to enjoy fast food. we buy them lunch in advance. we asked the hotel to warm up food for the children, to which we heard "no" ... to our question why, we heard - because children can burn themselves ... seriously ?! and the food in your restaurant you sell barely warm? you are being charged the total amount and the conditions are unacceptable. I don't recommend going there with family.

Had to send steak back as not correctly cooked. Also one dessert as an ingredient missing. Lager was barely cool not cold.Overall food was OK/average but the cost was extraordinary- over £70 a head with only one glass of alcohol.Lovely views, and maitre d was very good and helpful (receptionist the opposite) but if it wasn’t the only option for miles it couldn’t get away with it.

Stayed here for 2 nights recently, and used the Restaurant for dinner on one night, and breakfast on both mornings. Dinner was excellent, good choices on the menu. Unfortunately no bread offered prior to first course, cutbacks !!! Breakfast on the first morning was ill prepared, lots of empty food containers of all sorts. Disappointed with the new menu, too many " supplements " at an extra £7 each. No omelettes available, and poor show that you make your own toast in a machine that doesn't brown it enough, or burns it.

If I could give no stars I would. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were an inconvenience. We have never been to the hotel before and followed the outside signs to the garden restaurant. We came to the hotel reception so thought we could ask where to go from here. We were ignored by three men behind the reception figuring out an electronic device, then when I thought one was standing up to great me he said they would be one minute and all three left reception and went into the back. Finally a minute or so later he came back, and I explained we had a table booked at the garden restaurant, he signalled the way to which we could go through (better service would be to take us through to the restaurant). We headed towards what appeared to be the restaurant doors and then stood around at the doors waiting for someone to acknowledge us and show us to our table. There was only one waiter who was dealing with two other customers before ourselves, as we waited awkwardly at the doors hoping to be in the right place. The waiter then greeted us and I said we had a table booked for 8 people at 4pm. He did not verbally respond, but simply looked at me with what seemed to have a confused look on his face (at this moment I thought we were in the wrong place). He turned his back on me to look at the bookings on the computer screen, he then asked in a confused voice if we were there for lunch and I said well yes for food, again looking at his computer then looking at me, he signalled us to go and sit at the table on the far end, which did not seem to be set up ready for us (he could have also taken us over to the table which is usually expected at a restaurant). He then placed two small menus in the middle of the table, which I believed were drink menus. After reading the inside, disappointingly I noted there was a lunch menu with only three main course options- a burger, tagliatelle and fish and chips. The waiter brought over one more menu (three menus between 8 people) and I asked if this was the only menu available. He said that the dinner menu does not start until 5.30pm, as there are no kitchen staff for the dinner menu yet. I was very surprised there was only three choices available for a lunch time menu at such a big establishment and I explained that no where on the website, nor my booking, did it specify that only this menu would be available. My friend asked if we had some drinks and waited could we eat at 5.30. He said he would need to check but I got the impression that this was a huge inconvenience. We discussed among ourselves and decided to leave. The atmosphere was hostile and unwelcoming from the moment we walked in.As we were leaving another friend asked for a manager on the way out and she explained how disappointed we were that it was not made clear to us that this was the only menu available, and that the service was extremely rude and unwelcoming. She hesitantly replied dinner doesn't start till 5.30pm and again we stated that no one informed us of this at the time of booking and this was our new year's day special occasion meal we had booked a month in advance. We atleast expected a Sunday roast on offer with it being a Sunday or usually a lunch menu consists of atleast five choices. She said she could make an exception this once and we respectfully said it was too late (if the waiter had said there was no kitchen staff to cook the dinner menu how could they make an exception, was she going to cook the food herself?).I emailed the restaurant a week before the booking on the enquiry page of the website and asked if there was a set menu with it being new year's day and did they require a deposit for our booking. No one responded. Had they responded they could have explained the menu to me as there are no sample menus online either. All in all a huge disappointment. Had they have been welcoming and friendly and apologetic we may have decided to eat the lunch menu, but we were not willing to spend our money in an establishment that made us feel awkward and unwelcome from the beginning.

We booked the Christmas lunch menu and drove from Glasgow, about 30 miles. When we arrived, hungry and looking forward to our lunch, we were told that despite their Christmas menu being advertised, there was no Christmas menu and we were given the choice of afternoon tea or a very poor lunch menu. Despite having driven all that way and hungry, we were not in the least bit tempted to stay and eat. So, we drove back to Glasgow and ate in a lovely restaurant called Santa Lucia, who did actually have a lovely Christmas menu! To say we were disappointed in Macdonald Forest Hills is a huge understatement. We have eaten there and stayed there many times, but we will not be back. To not even be offered any kind of recompenese for the trouble we took to go there, and simply be told 'sorry' is not good enough. However, I can highly recommend Santa Lucia who have wonderful food, great staff, and an amazing atmosphere! Just avoid Forest Hills, it's gone rapidly down hill and not worth the money or your time.

Service is very slow. Sat with our finished main plates in front of us for 25 minutes before having to go up and ask for the bill. Portion sizes are not great either

Very disappointing menu. We called to make a reservation for dinner and were very excited to find out they had a vegan menu! When we came to the restaurant it took over 45 minutes to be seated. We were shown the vegan menu...2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert...on one sheet? I wouldn't call that a menu, and explained to the manager that there's no need to tell people you have a separate menu that is shorter than the coffee options. We ordered the "spicy bean" burger and beetroot risotto. Wow, the burger was like a flashback to 2007 when you just had some vegetables in a bread crumb, absolutely nothing was made from scratch, the bun was a Saintsbury's bread roll, no sauce, a bit of lettuce...the risotto was nothing special either, quite bland. We did get the roast tomato soup as a starter too and it was another classic bought in soup. Reminded me of my uni days buying soups from Morrison's.The servers were friendly, and although they were very forgetful at times with timings, they were understanding and accommodating to the problems. This would be a 1 star review if not for them.We do hope this restaurant gets a sorely needed development chef to kick the kitchen up to a good standard.

Lovely restaurant with great views. The food was expensive but it tasted really good and good portion sizes as well. Staff here were so lovely and friendly. Especially the gentleman who brought out our food and Scott who went out of his way to make us feel welcome and entertained us throughout.

Callum Douglas

The food was lovely, but it is nouvelle cuisine so portion size is very small. The other option from the bar was bigger portions of the kids menu.

Syed N Jaffri

Nice location but felt menu could've had more variety. Staff were great.
