KNOWN TO BAIT AND SWITCH AT LAST MINUTE AND PUT YOU IN MORANGIE HOUSE HOTEL WHICH IS A VERY RUNDOWN SUB STANDARD BUILDING. BE WARNED.Despite the reply below I feel this should dtay as it hasnt just happened to me but to several others and is a fact regardless of how insulting they say it is, maybe they should consider how insulting it is to not get what you paid for.

This was such a great place to stay! The food was delightful and had a great variety. The service was impeccable and everyone was so friendly! Our room was cozy and I love the color scheme. My only complaint is that it is time for new mattresses. The bar was charming and the grounds were well kept. They even have a castle cat named Lucky.

Such a great experience at this hotel! Great atmosphere, amazing staff, and outstanding food! An easy walk into town makes this a perfect choice for a holiday. John and everyone at this hotel made our stay a wonderful time. This place is a must if you’re ever close to Tain! ?

We booked to stay 2 nights but were so appalled at the state of the place, we accepted our pre payment as lost and the extra cost to stay elsewhere. First impressions, a broken down vehicle in the car park that had been there so long, grass had grown up under it and it was covered in green algae. This wasn't in a discreet location but right in front of the hotel. There was also a filled waste bin and a tired, shredded flag remnant on the flag pole above the tower to add to the vista. Inside, the furniture in the reception areas was dirty and greasy, the newspapers were months old. Staff were very busy so no chance of an early check in. We preferred to sit in the car rather than in the reception areas while we waited. When we were allowed to check in, our room was very basic but ok. Unfortunately the smell (of a cheap car deodoriser) was so overwhelming I found it nauseating. We immediately found other accommodation so cannot comment on breakfast. A very expensive mistake, AVOID!

Visited for a meal but was disappointed with poor quality. I had ordered the prawns with smoked salmon. It must have been prepared long time ago because it was soggy and tasteless. The wine was served at fridge temperature and was too cold. The dessert was ice cream which was good. They didn't have espresso coffee and tried to provide a substitute but it didn't work.

Was warmly welcome upon arrival and had delightful interaction with the staff for the entire stay. Mansfield Castle is a wonderful old building, but could use a little TLC on it's bar area. Cannot fathom why there's been an additional 'nautical' theme (fishing nets and shells tacked to doors and walls) added to a Victorian bar? With the addition of the sign on the street, it's clear they're trying to run up trade for the bar/kitchen but this really seems strange. The rooms were immaculate, the service was impeccable and the breakfast were one of the best we've ever had.

Having been regular loyal customer, my partner, friends, family for drinks &/ meals none of us will spend another penny. Popped in for coffees to be told that Coffee was NOT served until 3pm, my friend pointed out the sign @ entrance stated open 1-3pm to be very rudely told it didn't end said 3pm. Rude..

Tired but comfortable room. Clean sheets and nice towels. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast. Had crab fish cakes for evening meal which were very nice but didn’t come with any accompaniments so had to buy fries to go with it which made the meal expensive for what it was. Chose the bar on staffs recommendation to eat but would recommend eating in dining room as bar not very comfortable.

Not overly impressed with this establishment. OK for a one night stay but lacking in lots of ways. Firstly the good. Gordon who runs the bar did an excellent job and is so knowledgeable and helpful as we're all the other staff. Service was good. Room was massive, very clean. But strange net curtains on beautiful old windows. Hung on a wire and sides were not cut in a straight line oŕ sewn. Looked awful would not expect to find in any hotel but certainly not this one based on how they describe themselves. Food really was excellent but limited menu which would get a bit boring if staying for a while. No lift that's ok but they offer to carry bags at £5 as shown on their outdated information sheet in room. Really? charge for part of a hotels service on top of room rate. We thought we were getting an executive room with 3 beds a double and a single bed. But it was a double with a sofa bed not made up. Fair enough error along the line somewhere but we were told could not make up sofa bed til next day as housekeeper gone!! Found linen cupboard and made it up ourselves. Huge bathroom with corner jacuzzi bath and a separate corner shower. No doors in middle of shower .... a curtain instead that stuck to you! Hard to get hot water and shower head was damaged and head missing so water was erratic spray. Room cleaned everyday and towels changed. Surprising as we hung our towels up not wanting them changed. Paper cups on tea tray which we refused yo use and asked fir cups ehichvwe got but they jeot disappearing everyday when room cleaned. No glasses in room or bathroom. So we kept having to ask for these and got them no problem but why not give them in the beginning? These are not the standards I would expect of this hotel and given how they advertise themselves. Would I stay again? No. Too expensive for the standard I saw. The devil is in the detail and they don't give it. Terrible standards and totally misguided on what guests should get and what they should be providing. The management are ripping people off. I have run 2 bnbs and offer a better standard than this place.

Over priced for the outdated rooms. No radio unless you can get it to work on the clock/ telephone. Haven’t see one for years! Paper cups still in use. Come on other Scottish hotels have moved on.Service charged for drinks at the bar. Only nice feature are the grounds it stands in.

Food was amazing, Billy really is a connoisseur with his food, delicious! Will be back up again soon. Excellent service and great hotel. When staying we enjoyed the bar area and enjoyed the cocktails. Room was exceptionally clean also.

From the moment we arrived the staff were polite, friendly and attentive. The location was ideal for us on our NC500 Tour of Scotland. The room was clean albeit a little tired in places, it was comfortable and quiet. A good nights sleep was what we needed after our journey and that’s what we achieved. The breakfast menu was varied and the food cooked just as we had requested.
