Table of four, all chose different dishes. All were delicious. Finished off with tasty coffees. Complimented the staff on the food and coffee, but was told they’re ditching the real coffee and switching to pods. Oh well ….

Now known as The Forager and operated by Dean Banks, we were curious to try it and see if the reviews were accurate. The atmosphere was good and the staff were amazing. In particular our server - sorry I didn’t catch his name - was very engaging and entertaining, definitely an asset to the restaurant/pub. There was what appeared to be a manager/supervisor going round who just glared at everyone which if it hadn’t been for the other staff this would have been very odd putting. The food was tremendous. We started with the soup which was French onion. This was amazing. So often chefs get this wrong but it was first class. We then chose the roast of the day. My only criticism was that the roast beef could have been warmer. Not quite sure how the chef managed to have hot vegetables and gravy but lukewarm meat. We finished with sticky toffee pudding - again amazing. Just the right sized portion to round off our meal. My only negative if the place is the constant noise of staff/patrons going up and down the stairs. These do not appear to have any sound insulation in them so it is slightly tedious listening to that whilst having a conversation. Only a small criticism but it was annoying. I’m guessing the tables located away from the stairs won’t have the same problem, and it won’t prevent me from coming back. Most definitely a thumbs up and we will be back. Price wise it won’t be a regular visit and instead will be kept for special occasions, but something to look forward to.

4 adults 2 kids 2 dogs. Wet after a walk. Welcomed at the door. Pleasant staff. Nice atmosphere and a wee folk band playing whilst we were there. Spent a very pleasant couple of hours there. Will definitely be backKid-friendliness: Kids were well catered for.

We visited what is now the Forager Pub run by Dean Banks and his team (previously The Inn At Dollar) and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Service is excellent as is the atmosphere. The food was delicious. I don’t understand the previous reviews at all. We have eaten in many top restaurants in our time, and this, as “pub grub” was great. We will definitely be back. Well done Dean and team.

Visited here for lunch. Staff were very nice and very attentive. The menu had something for everyone and seemed a little pricy but don't mind paying if the food is tasty...this was not. The fish was bland and batter unseasoned and we struggled to cut through the batter. Chips were overcooked and hard to eat. It really wasn't pleasant. Sorry I would not recommend eating here.

We loved the Inn at Dollar. Now been taken over by Dean Banks. Service is still outstanding with a fabulous team of young, friendly staff who go out of their way to look after you, guys the 3 stars are for you, I’d give you 5 but then they might think it’s for the food. The food is a massive let down. Reading an article, Dean claims It’s classic pub food, but sourced, prepared and cooked to the highest levels just like in all of my restaurants.” Not living up to that statement! We went on a Sunday for my friends birthday. Reduced menu, Sunday roast is £21!! Fish and chips was good, decent portion should be for £16. My dad had the best beef pie, wee dish with a massive marrowbone in the middle, more carrot than beef, a squiggle of mash and 6 bits of carrot £19. My venison burger could have been anything frankly, came with the slaw on the burger and a side of chips £17 very dull. Puddings another massive let down. Sticky toffee pudding, 2 inch square with a miserly scoop of ice cream on top. The previous menu, the sticky toffee pudding plate was a work of art and the portion size generous and very delicious. Anyway I could breakdown the whole meal and moan about it all, but it’s Christmas so I’ll just go and have a mince pie instead. We won’t be back.

Firstly let me say the staff were attentive and pleasant.Though perhaps it is not acceptable practice for the server to criticise the previous owners menu. The rate of service was slow and perhaps because of the distance from the kitchen to the upstairs table allows food to cool. Some form of air extraction upstairs would prevent the smell of the different dishes accumulating as by the end of our meal it was getting unpleasant. The prices have increased which may stop some local and loyal customers being able to afford the new menu. At the moment Foragers has a curiosity value for customers who will come to see what level of food and service a prize winning chef brings to what was a well established local venue. However I don't think he has not reached the level he aspires to at the moment. A work in progress is my hope and I will return in a few months to reassess my critique.

The Inn at Dollar has now been changed to the Foragers and is run by someone else. Having been a loyal customer when it was The Inn, coming in seven days a week most weeks for coffee, opening time now is 11am instead of 9am. As we have pensioners in Dollar who enjoyed their early morning coffee, and indeed, parents of pupils who liked to meet up after they had dropped their child/children off at school in the morning for a coffee and chat, this has now been taken away from them. The staff at the Inn have become like family and I was appalled to hear that they have been subjected to working 11 hours without a decent meal break. Is this new company just all about making money with a disregard to their loyal customers and staff. Having scrutinized the menu, I find that it is very expensive - once again pensioners and families I think are going to struggle with the prices. I for one will not be partaking of the restaurant due to the prices, whereas before I wouldn't think twice about using the restaurant. I want to thank the current staff for their hospitality and will miss the early morning coffee and chat. Let's hope the new owner listens to the customers and more importantly his staff who have served us over the last few years. Money isn't everything, loyalty is!!!!

It was OK but nothing special. Had tandoori chicken and all aspects of meal were cooked nice but overall it was a very dry dish. A small tandoori chicken breast on a bed of rice and pita bread with no sauce was hard to wash down. The dish did come served with a small pot of yogurt dip but still dry

My husband’s family are from the area and so we were taking the day to show it to our kids. Some of the reviews on here made me a bit wary but we tried it and were very pleasantly surprised. It definitely fell in line with the better reviews on here. A large variety of dishes, everyone enjoyed. My children rarely finish all of their food, but they did here. The portions were not stingy, and were certainly thoroughly enjoyed. They have attentive staff and a nice atmosphere. I would recommend going and book to avoid disappointment.

Always had a nice meal from the inn but someone is taken their eye off the ball. Had to ask for drinks service after 20mins. Ordered 3 tandoori chicken and I can honestly say it was terrible the chicken was dry and it came with plain white rice some salad and a dip. If this is what is being served up it needs taken off the menu, even a sauce would have made this a bit better and less cooking time on the chicken.

Three of us go out once a week for lunch and we paid a visit to the Inn at Dollar. The staff were very welcoming. We contemplated having starters but were glad we decided against it as the portions for the mains were enormous. I had Scampi which had about 15 pieces of it whereby most other places we have been are lucky to reach double figures. Our server was chatty without being overbearing and was happy to engage in some banter with us. We must have visited over 60 restaurants in the past 18 months and I can honestly say this one topped the lot. Hats off to all concerned.

We were four arriving on a cold Monday evening in October. The menu was short, usually a good sign, and we were hungry. Haggis and black pudding was excellent an excellent as were chicken and lamb main courses. Wine list also short but good quality. The waiter and kitchen staff were attentive and prompt.Definitely worth another visit

Cycling stop for coffee and sandwiches. Old building with modern decor. Courtyard at rear accessible with bikes was nice. Best plastic tables and chairs I’ve seen! Smart and nice.

Popped in for dinner after a trip to the docs for a horrible chest infection. The girl behind the bar was friendly and arranged for my daughter and i to have our garlic bread whilst our food was cooking. We both ordered fish and chips and I can honestly say it's the bestfifh and chips I've ever eaten. The fish was beautiful and meaty, full of flavour and not greasy. The chips were also fab!!!Compliments to the chef and to the lovely bar stuff making us feel welcome when I felt miserable .Kid-friendliness: My daughter was greeted and give. Her menu before me, which I liked. She's likes that too as it makes her feel more grownup
