Absolutely wonderful food today Sunday 14th January 2024. Husband and I had a carvery and the meat was absolutely melt in the mouth wonderful! We have been to many restaurants and carvery places but this wiped the floor with them! I wish they were local to us, as they would definitely become our local place to go for a carvery. I cannot recommend them enough. Wonderful options even on the vegetable side of things too ???

Food great as normal.. however the pub was cold no open fire as usual. A member of staff waiting on tables and the bar kept continuously coughing all over everything.. not very nice when you eating.

My two old School friends and I met at The Royal Oak for lunch and a catch up earlier this week and were immediately pleased to see Bathams on draught. We ordered our lunch, two from the menu and one carvery. The two grills arrived and I went to the carvery, to be met by a very pleasant young Lady, who provided me with the meats, gave me the plate and I helped myself to the splendid array of vegetables, sauces, gravy etc. So far so good. However, that short meeting with the carvery Lady was the last contact we had from anyone at The Royal Oak for the next .....hour or so. No one came to inquire whether we were enjoying our meals, ( not vital I grant you ) but neither did anyone appear to clear the plates away ( I did it myself, fifteen or more minutes after looking at three empty plates in front of us) or ask if we would care for a dessert, coffee, liquers or another drink from the bar, ( we fetched these ourselves.) It was as though we had disappeared from sight. It was all very odd. Eventually, we decided it was time to go. We asked a woman, who had been around the dining area since we arrived, for the bill. Whoops, mistake. We were then told , as though we were school children, to take ourselves off to the bar, where such matters are dealt with. Well, where else!! It was all very, very odd. Customer service and liason are clearly not high on the list of priorities here. Shame really, as the food was very nice. However, one is hardly likely to volunteer to be spoken to in that manner too often. Someone really needs to have a quiet word, as good news takes a while to get around, whereas bad news travels very fast. I would be very interested to learn if any of the above rings true with others.

Arrived for our table at 4pm. Shown to our table promptly, asked if we knew what we were having or wanted a menu. Asked for a menu as we’d never been before. Ordered drinks, both came in dirty glasses, to be informed ‘the dirt is only on the outside’ also had to ask for the highchair we had been given to be cleaned as it was filthy. After waiting 15 minutes I asked if we needed to order at the bar as no one had taken our order. Same young waitress told us we had already ordered. Once we had finally ordered told to go straight upto carvery waited several minutes (kids meals had been cooked & served while I was stood waiting for service at the carvery) kids meals very generous portions. Carvery meat was all dried out and overcooked. Roast potatoes & parsnips also overcooked. The cauliflower cheese & gravy were good. Dirty plates left on table once we had finished, not service checked at all nor offered more drinks. Went to the bar eventually to pay our bill after table still not being cleared or offered desserts. Not asked if we enjoyed our meals or if it was okay. We left very disappointed with the food & service. Luckily we only travelled to see the tractor run so won’t be returning.
