We came here for a carvery on a lovely Sunday afternoon. The food was beautiful, and the local beer was good. It was hot in the new eating area, but we escaped the heat after dinner and sat outside in the sun.

Visited yesterday with friends for a carvery lunch … absolutely superb. Am always very wary of beef on a carvery as have many an experience where it would have been better on the soles of shoes. However this was the most succulent tender beef ever ( outside of what we cook at home!!) It was delicious, as was the turkey chosen by our friends. Add some well cooked veg, friendly staff, and a homely ambience and we are definitely going to return…soon! Brilliant…thank you.

We have been coming here for years and have never been let down. The food and staff are excellent. Fresh meat, veg and fruits. Plenty of parking and seats are set out spaciously. 10/10

We were recommended The Down for a great Sunday Lunch. We were certainly not disappointed, a wonderful Carvery with a choice of 3 meats all the veg you can think of and all the trimmings. A lovely traditional pub with a fabulous atmosphere, you can smell the roasts the moment you walk through the door. The staff are great, service is quick and efficient and we go regularly. Not keen on the Whippy ice cream but that’s a personal choice Wonderful hidden Gem

I've stayed at the Down Inn for years, but this was the first time that I've brought my wife and (adult) daughter there. They were every bit as impressed as I expected. I've always found the staff very friendly and helpful, and everything seems to run smoothly. One thing I especially like is the ease of access to the rooms from the car park. The two corridors of rooms are immediately within the door leading from the car park, so bringing my luggage in is never more than a few paces. Well, ok, there are a few steps to walk up, but there is one ground-level room for disabled guests. At dinner, my wife and I had the carvery, and our vegan daughter chose from the menu, which had such a good choice of veggie/vegan meals that I was almost tempted to choose one myself. Everything is always in good working order here, although (unusually) I did notice one minor blemish – the cover was loose over the screws on our bath grab rail. Only one negative really – we would have preferred firmer pillows. And just an original idea. When I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, I dislike having to turn the light on, as it's dazzling and wakes me up fully. In our bathroom was a green LED, just bright enough to see by. I'm sure it was just an on/off indicator for something, and not really meant as a nightlight – but wouldn't it be a good idea if all hotel bathrooms had this! The bill was pretty reasonable too – £171 for the three of us for B&B for one night.

Me and my husband returned to the down Inn as we were very impressed with everything about our stay there. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped to a very high standard. The breakfast was excellent value and included smoked salmon. It was a very generous breakfast aswell. We also ate there for the 4 nights we were there as the food and the carvery were so good. We were very impressed with everything at The Down and hope to return again.

Carvery was amazing, big portion of meat, plenty of vegetables to choose from and a great price, dessert was lovely, Gavin and his staff were extremely friendly.

As always food and venue were brilliant, unfortunately the 2 people on the bar were rubbish at serving people in order so what should of been a relatively quick order ended up a 15 minute wait even after catching their attention 3 times to show we were waiting to order and they instead served people that were after us.

Everything about our few night at the Down Inn was excellent. From the checking in, tidy rooms, great food, cracking atmosphere. If you have a Gluten Free diet, please visit the Down Inn, they will cater for you no problem. Will stay and eat again.

We stopped here with 48 passengers for the carvery. Personally from myself if was absolutely fantastic. The pork literally fell apart when it was carved, the Yorkshire puddings were some of the best I have ever had along with externally tasty gravy. I honestly couldn’t fault it. Speaking on behalf of the passengers they all said they couldn’t wait to return. Well done guys top job ??

Great carvery as always! The service was slow and it took 20 minutes to be seated for our booked table. On the way out we said thank you to the staff at the bar and the young blonde lady meowed at us.
