Lively little pub next to the canal. Food was excellent, and the gentleman working the bar/kitchen was very friendly and welcoming. Will visit again soon.

Food here is awful - ordered 5 meals, each one tasted bad. It wasn’t busy and we saw another customer send their meal back as it had been burnt. Would not recommend!

Excellent breakfast hot and freshly cooked, perfect!! We'll definitely be back!

Atmosphere marked mid as it was very quiet when visited. Cheesy chips were good. But highlight for me was the very well kept 6

The Canal Tavern has been through a few hands since I've been visiting; some legendary landlords, some not so much. The current incumbent seems to be doing a pretty solid job of running a pub - hasn't ruined the subtle ambience or gone "gastro", although in truth I haven't tried the food. The garden is a nice place to sit with a pint, especially under cover from the rain, and the Guinness is nicely served if a bit pricey.

We popped in for a drink while out on a barge for the day. It was a beautiful day so very busy. There was one girl running herself ragged trying to keep up with everything. At one stage I thought she was going to pass out due to not getting enough fluids or food? I felt so bad for her as she was obviously in distress. Very disappointed that a lady came out from the kitchen and said sorry I cannot help you as I don't know how to use the till. Surely you would know how to make a pot of tea, coffee or serve soft drinks?Shame on the owners for treating your staff so badly!

Friendly pub, great food, sat on deck overlooking the canal.

I have seen this pub go through several new owners and I can honestly say the current owners and staff.. In particular Ollie, are doing a great job. The pub looks great and Ollie was the best bar man, he's a keeper. I hope the pub works out for the new owners xx

I was pleasantly surprised to have such a lovely meal after reading some of the reviews on here. After a soggy day on the canal we wanted a hot meal & a sit down. The canal tavern was the closet open pub serving food. The menu wasn’t huge but there was something on there for all of us & when the girl brought it over we were all pleased with our choices. It was freshly cooked & really tasty. Couldn’t fault it. The girl who was multitasking as a barmaid & waitress was run off her feet but did it all with a smile on face. She was a credit to the establishment. I was almost put off going by some of the previous reviews on here but am so glad we did.

Always a nice stop off for lunch along the canal highly rated from us

Offered a specials menu then retracted it after we ordered, took ages to deliver food we had ordered, even at a slow period, when food arrived it was incorrect, then when i spoke to the chef about the issues was met by an attitude that left a lot to be desired from someone that had chosen a career in the service industry. Would NOT stop at again.

Abandon hope, all ye who enter here. How can it take 20+ minutes to order a coffee and a bacon sandwich? No cakes available "the chef hasn't made any ". Limited range of soft drinks. Front of house staff incapable of dealing with the public. Total lack of friendliness or "feel good" factor. If you want to be made welcome, go elsewhere.

I went for a pint on the way back from a long walk and possibly have a bite to eat.I asked boy behind bar for a pint of Amstel in which he poured and placed on the bar.Went to pay with £10 cash and he told me they have no change! I said is it card only and he said No!Wishing to pay by cash which was legal tender last time I looked? How can you open a business without sufficient change!!!Do worry your loss ?I'm off to a pub thats not run by 12 year olds. Will not be back again.
