We had a lovely 3 night stay, sadly I couldn’t eat the meal on the first night as I was feeling a bit queasy, I must add NOT the fault of the food however my husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal. We did eat out the the following 2 days as we travelled a distance away. The room was a lovely size with a walk-in shower. The floor of the shower was rather slippy, as I have bad knees, it would be good to have had a grab bar on the wall of the shower. Breakfast. Hubby had a bacon butty every morning. As I’m not keen on smoked bacon I just had poached egg on toast. As my appetite isn’t very good it would have been nice to have cereal such as cornflakes but none on offer. The staff at the Bower Inn are all lovely & friendly & very obliging. Would we stay again? Possibly if in the area.

Beautiful pub, lovely staff...alas 3 of us had a very expensive disappointing ploughmans lunch. Very small wedge of cheddar & Stilton, nice slice of beautiful ham, bit of chutney pickled egg ( pickled within an inch of its life) and a slice of sourdough toast????? Not really a ploughman's and it cost £16....yes really. ( How did the ploughmen toast their bread I wonder???? ) Surely a hunk of fresh crusty bread is called for? Such a lovely old pub and garden though I'd hate to think we wouldn't go back .

This is a lovely pub with friendly staff and a very nice garden. However the food is expensive and the portions small. We both had a ploughman's, which at nearly £16 was one of the most expensive we've had. On paper it looked worth the money but when it arrived the portions of cheese were tiny, babybel sized. Also, I don't think toasted sourdough goes with a ploughmans, a crusty roll is called for. For 2 pints and 2 ploughman's it was nearly £50. We won't be going back

Living near the Bower we go often for a quiet drink and or to meet friends. We went this afternoon and were driven out by four different dogs barking and yapping at each other. The staff seem to think that dog friendly means that they can do as they like and that they shouldn't ask the owners to consider other customers. It looks like another local is the next search

What a great place. All of the staff were friendly & interacted with the guests, they made a great fuss of our dog ( which he loved) nothing was to much trouble. On arrival we was checked in quickly, an taken to our room. The room was a comfortable size, very clean, good extras in the bathroom, and the towels were the whitest/ fluffiest we have had in a while. There is tray with tea/ coffee on it & biscuits. The TV is of good size. My only blip would be the pillows, not great, but we had a great night sleep, as the bed was large & comfortable. The food is amazing………breakfast has a large section, I found something different to have over our four day stay ( could do with a larger section of cereal) & perhaps offer toast & marmalade. Evening meal, we also had at the Inn, the meat pie is wonderful, as was the sticky toffee pudding ?? husband really loved the gammon & eggs. Plenty of car park spaces. This Inn is really great for travelers with dogs, as they have thought of everything. We had a lovely four day stay, with our dog, exploring Somerset from the Inn, knowing we could come back to a great meal, and home from home comforts making out stay a lot more comfortable. Well done to all the staff.

Went with the family (5 adults 2 small children) to what was billed as BBQ and live music event. Unfortunately it was raining!!! The restuarant was full but thinking there would be wet weather provision we bought drinks at the bar and made our way to the garden! There was nowhere to go undercover, couple of tables and chairs out in the rain. The only place to get out of the rain was the skittle alley which was packed with people there for the 'special event'!! Also no tables and no chairs..standing room only, had to stand packed in like sardines with drinks (and children) on the floor. Queued in the rain for overpriced BBQ served in boxes! Absolutely appalling organisation. We took our boxes of food home to eat. Poorly organied, both food and drink overpriced (£10 for a leg of chicken!!) very poor service, and a final insult...in our scramble to get out, one of our party left a burger in a box on a shelf by the BBQ and when he went back to get it it had gone!!! Staff saing they hadn't seen it. Well and truly ripped off...won't be returning.

Had a lovely one night stay on our way to our holiday in Cornwall . The hotel is beautiful. The gardens with beer garden are really nice and pretty . We had two rooms that where on the ground floor both over looking a field . We all had evening meal which was very nicely cooked and presented. Breakfast was also very good . The male manager was very hardworking. He Checked us in . Served us drinks at the bar . Worked in dining room in evening and following morning at breakfast . Would stay again .

We stayed for a night with our two dogs. It was a lovely clean room and a beautiful bathroom. No trace of previous dogs. We had a nice meal. Gammon chips and eggs were delicious. Service very good. Staff were all dog friendly and very helpful. Helpful ladies at breakfast which was also excellent with a good choice: Dogs got a sausage too. We spent the afternoon at Breane sands which is about 9 miles away. Beautiful sandy dog friendly beach. Highly Recommend.

£6.00 for a pint of Guiness? You can buy a Guiness in London for £5.30, this is the back of beyond in Bridgwater not a city. Over cooked chips, solid egg and a Dry Gammon steak for over £17.00. Over £9+ for a large glass of Pinot. Trying to be something it's clearly not. Very disappointed, would not recommend or go back to. I don't mind paying for quality but I begrudge being ripped off. Pub itself looks nice, area nice though next to the motorway, service OK hence 2 out of 5 and that's a generous 2.

It was a long trip, three flights all on time, but it was our arranged car arriving late that ended up with us arriving thirty minutes later that we had advised the hotel. As we had booked dinner for the evening we were concerned we might now be late. No problem we were told and the table would be held for us. In the end we went down fifteen minutes late only to have the barman complaining we were late. Not just that, for some reason he would not let the issue go. When we were shown into the dining room it was pretty empty, empty enough for us to be offered our choice of tables, and would remain so for the rest of the evening. What was the barman’s problem? The food was pretty good although through our stay (two nights) the service was inept. Others may find the young staff charming but they have no experience. Continued dropping of table items, balancing food trays with nervous looks, failing to pay attention when taking the order and taking the food to the wrong tables, it was all there. On our travels in the UK it is clear the hotel industry is short of staff but if you are going to use young inexperienced staff train them, or at least have someone around to sort out issues. The hotel side was somewhat better. The rooms are pleasantly furnished and the bathrooms kitted out very nicely. The bath was in the bedroom, something I am not a fan of, but at least not directly on the carpet instead being raised on a tiled plinth which might be challenging for older visitors. The room was clean. In terms of service the hotel again is lacking. Reception is not staffed, and how many times do I have to ring the bell to get someone to come? Why do small hotels need express check in information ( exactly the same as supplied on the booking) when that could be dealt with at reception? Equally the wifi is INCLUDED in the booking, not to be offered free if I give up my email and date of birth. I know you can fake it, but it is still annoying. Bottom line this place seems short of staff (it does not feel like a relaxed place) and some experienced hands are needed. The rooms and the food suggest that the owners do care, but without decent staff it is a losing battle.

A lovely place to stay Comfortable, nicely decorated pub/hotel with great pub food all reasonably priced. Lovely staff. Nice garden area.\\nLovely bathroom but a personal preference is a stand alone shower rather than a shower over the bath. Thoroughly recommend this place if you need to stay in the area.

Recently stayed at the Bower Inn for a short break while in the area. Rooms were very clean and well maintained and breakfast was of good quality. I did have an issue with a mattress which was quickly resolved without any fuss, which reflects on good management skills. Staff were friendly and helpful and plan to return next year.

Room was very nice but lacking storage had to get clothes out of suitcase when required a chest of drawers would have been handy, meals good but no fresh vegetables or alternative to chips, last evening ordered a well done steak which turned up rare with blood on the plate which I returned the replacement was good. Breakfast was OK but every morning the kitchen was out of something the last breakfast of our stay was spot on best of the week. Sorry for the negative points but still enjoyed our stay

Wow! Stopped here by chance on a Sunday. Excellent service and amazing food with great portions. We both had roast. My husband had beef, I had the veggie option. Would highly recommend and since we don’t live locally we are considering a weekend away in this spectacular inn at some point in the future. Sorry no photos, food was too good to wait!
