Something of a triumph of style over substance. Stayed as a hotel guest, a big attic room with free standing bath but radiators didn't work, no milk on tea tray, laminate floor squeaks at every step, mattress collapsing somewhat. Can't fault the restaurant food but we were gobsmacked to be told at 9.30 (6 in our party) that the restaurant and bar was closing at 10.00 as it was 'so quiet' and we would have to get out. The bar was humming and people were still comkng in however. After some Frank exchanges, and some negotiation, the manager relented but it made for an unpleasant atmosphere at the end of what had been a good night.Rooms: Clearly much spent on refurbishment and interior decor but showing signs of lack of care, attention and maintenance. Management need to step up and address issues which are being noted in a number of previous reviews.Food & drinks: Menu is excellent upper end pub food with attractive specials, well cooked. Staff enthusiastic on the whole but some professionalism and better management is required

Great place for a drink, good ales, and snacks or meals. We had several children and they found a space for them. Nice covered and heated outdoor space. Great

Just in town for a few days. Friendly staff and decent beer. Food was standard pub grub, no complaints.

Thank you Archangel for making my birthday month special! We’ve (husband, myself and 2 dogs) lunched here twice recently and is now our favourite local Butcombe Inn!The staff here really know their game to make a visit a memorable occasion.Food is really good, we had giant olives, two starters, two mains, a very nicely made (or two) blackcurrant gin spritzer cocktail, some nice house ale and a big pot of tea for husband! All very reasonably priced when used with my Butcombe loyalty card and a birthday special offer sent to me via email.Great choice of seating (we have two dogs) and the great staff looked after us in our quiet panelled alcove on the main flagstone passageway. There are various knooks to sit, drink, dine, relax. A lovely airy atmosphere with a great selection of ales and spirits. The Inn is ancient but has cleverly balanced a modern glass suspended space above the spacious bar, this inn is great for night drinking too and gets happily lively!A great Butcombe pub! I’m yet to stay here, I think it looks an ideal choice as it’s centrally positioned in this lovely and lively market town.Food & drinks: Food is good quality, nice selection and well priced especially if using Butcombe loyalty card. Good Ales on tap.Noteworthy details: A great historic Inn and hotel with a good atmosphere whilst having distinctly modern vibes. Plenty of space, and good for a night out in Frome too.

Had a great say, Say a few years ago and just as good. Very friendly staff, went the extra mile to ensure our stay was a goo one. excellent breakfast. had a n evening meal and that was also excellent. location is good for the centre. Parking is good and not to far away, but check where it is or call the hotel as if you don't know where it is it can be tricky to get to. Also remember this is a building that is hundreds of years old, which adds to it charm but can be quirky, which is why we like it.

We had dinner here yesterday and along with the waiter being fab the food was ABSOLUTELY delicious. I had the mushroom ragu which was the best I’ve ever had! It was also kindly made vegan by the chef by adding some delicious vegan cheese which worked really well. Thank you ?Food & drinks: Delicious food

We had Sunday lunch. The beef was over done and tough as old boots. The Yorkshire puddings were also well over and not nice. The vegetables were really good. Roast potatoes were superb. The side of cauliflower cheese was very good and highly recommended. I'll opt for the pork or chicken next time.Service poor.

We had a party of 9 adults and 6 kids. They emailed asking us to pre order from their normal menu which was great and suited everyone. When we arrived they had reserved a room for us which was brilliant. We were greeted in a really friendly way, the service throughout (both drinks and food) was great. Everything was as we had hoped and it was a great experience! Thank you!Food & drinks: Great menu!

Really cool place in the centre of frome. We were recording locally and stayed here as the band. Great breakfast and good vibes. Rooms are big and interesting too. We will be coming back!

Nice ambience and good service but food below average. I dropped in for a quick meal before attending an event nearby and ordered the pie with vegies and a choice of mash or chips. The pie was very small but tasty, the "vegies" were only cabbage, and the mashed potato was a horrible tasteless congealed dollop resembling wallpaper glue.

Initially, I was a bit scared. There was no air conditioning and no USB chargers. Fortunately, the weather was not hot. I have to say that the staff actually made the experience wonderful. They were kind and respectful (e.g., immediately provided me a fan, packed my breakfast when I needed to catch an early train, delivered dinner straight to my room, etc.).One of the employees, Tia, offered to recharge my devices and helped me locate a place to find a proper adapter for my United Kingdom trip.Their kindness went a long way! My advice, do not expect air conditioning and bring sanitization wipes (if you are particular in that sense). Also, know that their breakfast is impeccable! If I ever return, I would not hesitate to stay here.
