Booked a joint night away for our anniversary/mums birthday in so called ‘superior’ rooms. Had a lovely, friendly welcome from Laura on reception, however, on arrival one room was freezing and the other was very dark and overlooked a dark alley which was depressing. There was nowhere but put your toiletres in the bathroom, one chair in the room, the bathroom was very dated with terrible shower and had a shower curtain instead of a screen (who has them anymore?). There was certainly nothing ‘superior’ about either of the rooms! We had prebooked a table in the restaurant for an evening meal and surprised to see that there were only four other people in the room. The restaurant was so cold that we were shivering and had to ask for a heater. The food came out on cold plates and was a really poor standard (no better than basic pub food). There were lots of items not available from the dessert menu but after the poor mains (and sharing starters which tasted like frozen items) we really didnt want any anyway. The bill arrived and we were shocked to find it came to nearly £160 and upon checking saw that a pint of IPA was nearly £7 ? and we were charged extra for fries as the chicken didn’t come with anything ?‍♀️ we were so disappointed and deflated and obviously questioned the bill as this was London prices but were told the pricing was correct. Breakfast was lovely and no complaints on that score but strange how you can get a breakfast so right and a evening meal so wrong so presume it’s down to the chefs? We have stayed at a few coaching inns before and this one sadly let us down and we were appalled by the poor standard of food as well as the overall price. The whole hotel was cold and souless and nowhere near like the standard of the feathers in Ledbury. It was very poor for the money paid and all of us left feeling very disappointed and upset as it was booked for a special occasion and it didnt turn out like that. Our complaint was passed on when leaving and we would be giving it two stars if it wasn’t for Laura or the breakfast but three stars is being generous. It really isn’t worth a visit and would advise to stay elsewhere if visiting Wells which is a beautiful city.

We stayed here because we were going to a concert at the cathedral, excellent location if you're going to the cathedral as just couple minutes walk. We found all the staff friendly, efficient and attentive. Christmas meal was excellent value for money and very tasty. Overall would recommend this hotel if you're coming to Wells.Food & drinks: Overall the food was good and value for money. We really enjoyed the Christmas Meal, the ingredients were good quality and very tasty, especially the stuffing and just the right amount so you didn't feel uncomfortable after finishing the meal. The food was only let down by a couple of small things. Not enough blood orange sorbet with the chocolate mousse with the Christmas meal (A chef's splat is just not enough!) and hard poached eggs with the Eggs Benedict in the morning.

We had a family meal there to celebrate a special occasion. The food was very average and service friendly but poor quality. I ordered the seafood linguine which happened to be the most expensive thing on there menu. It was a plane tomatoe sauce with a few frozen prawns and mussels. No seafood flavour at all and a very small portion. Very disappointing. All the other meals were equally disappointing.

The rooms needs a bit of technical and up grade. Items didn't work reported but not sorted out! Breakfast was good, needed a few nuts and seeds for me, cooked breakfast was adequate not too much on the plate. Evening meal, some of the soups were not to my taste cauliflower and chestnut? The main courses fish was excellent and the sweets were yummy ? bar expensive, as per normal in hotels. Easy walking distance to the city, excellent location ? ?

Has to be full marks all round. You could have held a dance in our room (73) and the manager and staff just seemed to be enjoying themselves which always makes for a great experience. We will be visiting Wells again and will be staying at the Swan next time.

A great venue with very amicable staff: good food served well and hot; a difficult task for an amateur but their professionalism won through.

We popped into a neighbouring establishment looking for a table for two. Four or five staff walked passed us in the empty reception, admittedly they were carrying food but even an acknowledgement 'We'll be with you in a minute' would have been appreciated.Completely different experience to The Swan where we were acknowledged and seated straight away with a carafe of tap water provided whilst we looked at the menu.Service was attentive, but not intrusive throughout. Background music was just that, in the background and not intrusive either, allowing a decent conversation. All in all a wonderfully relaxing and lunchtime experience.Food & drinks: Sharing platter (3 starters) was extremely tasty and served with a dressed salad.Main course was the pork which was beautifully tender, I even ate the crackling which I don't normally do.All the food was delicious, cooked to perfection, and seasoned beautifully.Thoroughly recommended.

A lovely old hotel, with great rooms.Martin the manager and the staff provide a personal level of service above expectations. The restaurant food is very good too. A great find!

Hands down the best wedding venue in Wells. The function rooms are beautiful and the accommodation is great. Our friends and family enjoyed their stay too. The staff were helpful and accommodating, particular the day before and on the day when we had last minute requests. In particular I’d like to thank Avena, Steve, David and Martin. The whole experience felt very special as a result. I’m glad we didn’t use the Bishop’s Palace - we had such a bad experience with them during our initial search for venues. Thank you to the team at The Swan, we really appreciate it.Rooms: Our room was comfortable, well decorated and had a fantastic view of the cathedral. It was clean and refreshments were topped up every day.Nearby activities: Fantastic central location - you can’t get better!

Lovely old hotel, my room was very nice with a mix of modern and old fashioned/luxury decor. The cooked breakfasts choice was very good although I wasn't impressed with the cheap sausages (minor detail), the Continental breakfast I think could certainly do with a bread/roll selection (again minor detail). Due to the age of the property and a lot of squeaky floorboards I found it can be quite noisy at night with people moving around, earplugs recommended depending on how you sleep!! Great location, plenty of places to eat out and varied selection of tastes. Parking can be challenging getting through the inner entrance to the car park. You can however find parking spaces outside but be sure to move prior to 0800 or risk the Traffic Warden! A nice retreat, recommended.

Really great welcome, thanks Jade. Our room was incredible!!! Clean, comfy, great range of tea tray stuff, the bathroom was stunning with an automatic under sink light, so you don't have to put the big light on in the night. Oh and we had a lounge area. The staff were honestly incredible, nothing was too much trouble. So helpful. The food was amazing, 2 great breakfasts and one dinner. The buffet section of the breakfast was very comprehensive. The cooked was very tasty. The hotel is in the centre of Wells, everything is accessible and within walking distance. Really loved our stay here, thanks to everyone.
