Delicious food and fast, friendly service. Very accommodating to us on a busy day. Quite expensive but good size portions and all tasted lovely. Would definitely come

This is the best place for breakfast if you want a full English or smashed avo! It's not swimming in fat, they use quality products and the staff are SO helpful!

You cannot fault it. Great coffee, great food! Dog friendly - they sometimes give your dog free treats. We’ve become regulars, we love it!

Nice food but they should really update the menu on FB. Went in expecting what was posted and very disappointed that the items were no longer offered. Also found it expensive for what you get.

Great place to eat. Staff are incredibly friendly and so welcoming of our dog. She was given fresh water and biscuits (see photo) on arrival. The coffee is fantastic and the food is outstanding and great value for money. We had peanut butter on toast (see photo) and poached eggs on toast. We can definitely recommend Old George. Thank you to all the staff there.

I recently visited the Old George in Barnsley, encouraged by the positive experiences of friends and family. The visit was intended as a comforting end to a day that had been less than ideal.Upon arrival just before 3pm, with the expectation of enjoying a full meal before the advertised closing time of 4pm, we were courteously informed by the staff that only drinks and cakes were being served. Although this direct interaction was handled kindly, the initial hint came from a less welcoming exchange, where a staff member, while eating, subtly signaled another to break the news to us. This indirect communication felt somewhat dismissive, particularly given our anticipation for a meal.We still decided to try some of the available offerings for takeaways. As we made the decision to leave in search of a more substantial meal, a remark from a gentleman, presumably a staff member, stood out. He said, “Are we not good enough?” This comment felt misplaced. It wasn’t a question of the establishment’s quality, which seemed quite inviting with its pleasant aroma and appearance, but rather our need for a more filling meal after not eating sufficiently throughout the day. The remark seemed to misunderstand our situation; it wasn’t about contention but a simple necessity to eat.The essence of hospitality lies not only in the quality of food and drink but in understanding and empathy towards the customer’s needs. My recommendation would be for clearer communication about service times, both online and within the venue, and fostering a direct and compassionate approach in all customer interactions.
