Staff was great, room was basic although comfy bed.Downside - having to use fire door for entrance and exit, the area was full.of rubbish and smelt awful, the door was open constantly so anyone could have came in.Didn't stay for breakfast as walking past the rubbish put us off, plus couldn't get to the restaurant area to eat as interal doors and main door locked, only managed to get in as a person was leaving through a conservatory door.Great location for where we needed but probably wouldn't stay again

Amazing food.Friendly staff.Room was basic but comfortable enough.Room layout could've been better, when lying on bed, had to turn to see TV which was a bit uncomfortable.

Overnight stay. In Thorne for a family party Saturday 28th October. A pint of larger cost £5.50. Stair case and hallway carpet needed a good hoover. Stayed in a Twin room. (room 3) Poor quality mattress. Mattress protecter on only one of the beds. Very thin sheets, almost transparent! Poor quality pillow. No hot water when I tried to have a shower at 7am. Later around 8am noticed hot water present, so managed to get a shower before breakfast. The breakfast was poor. One tiny sausage, 1 bacon, 1 egg 1 hash brown a spoonful of beans and 3 mushroom. 1 piece of white toast served on top! The breakfast was greasy. There were help yourself cereal & tea /coffee, before the hot food. If you wanted orange juice you had to ask! There were a few guests due to a wedding so had a wait for more cereal bowls & cups. The price of the room B&B £81 we thought was reasonable. If we stayed again we wouldn't stay for breakfast, and I'd take my own pillow.

One night stay on Saturday 28th October. The whole hotel, bar and restaurant had an air of neglect to it and didn't appear very clean especially the stairs leading up to the accommodation. The room we stayed in was less than acceptable. Toilet seat broken, taps not big enough for the bathroom basin, shelf above the basin missing but brackets still on the wall and toilet tissue rammed in the door spy hole. Also no hot water but we do accept that this can happen occasionally. One good point was that the bed was comfortable and also the staff were very friendly and accomodating.

Warm tap water to drink. Just what you need in the morning! Tried to get downstairs at 8:45 and all doors locked, no staff about to get a cold drink. Had to leave out of the night exit to go to McDonald’s to get a drink of water.Road was closed outside in the morning with no warning from the hotel.Rooms were not terrible, but that’s the only positive.

Making New Memories

The main issue here is that the couple running it are battling a run down hotel that has been unloved and under invested for years, which means without a significant injection of funds and management with lots of experience to run it, this place will fail yet again. There's no attention to detail - the little things that make it an 'OK place to stay' to something more memorable and enjoyable - and this from a couple who have travelled around the world staying in 4 star hotels to cosy B&B's.THE ROOMTwin room - with tea and coffee/kettle.But...only one saucer and one spoon. There were no drinking glasses.Towels - the smallest possible, certainly not full size bath towels.A window with a broken catch so unable to open - it was a really hot day.No customer information. They are missing a trick here by not including a menu for their restaurant and, more importantly, what to do in case of a fire or how to get hold of management in case of emergency.Where was the Fire Notice, which is a requirement in every room???The beds were OK. Water pressure in the shower was pitiful and in general the room was a little 'tired.'There's no, or extremely limited WiFi, it certainly wasn't available on the TV which limited it to receiving standard channels only.In the 21st century, having no WiFi is a big issue especially if you're trying to attract people who need to work away from the office. Some of these issues were rectified once we'd found someone. However, we shouldn't have to be telling you about the basics.BREAKFASTLimited to 7.30-8.30amReally? That's a bit mean on those guests who might fancy a lie-in. Even extending it to 9am would be beneficial. As to the breakfast itself, unless you like a fried breakfast there's not much variety, certainly not on the menu anyway.A Full English wasn't that full.As it's included in the price it offers a start to the day, but with so many options just a walk away it really needs to be special to make it worthwhile.Perhaps offer it as an option because I suspect there's a lot of wastage here. That makes the room rate more attractive and gives guests the option. There was a wedding on one of the days we were there. All good, except that we were woking at 6am by 6 girls doing their make up and chatting loudly right outside our room. Is there not a prep room you make available to wedding parties rather than use a public area which disturbs other guests?Overall, a general lack of attention to detail and a lot of work and investment needed if The Punchbowl were to shake off the negative reviews and feeling we got from locals.

Went for my nephews wedding, food wasn't up to much. Lots of people complaining amongst them self's about the food. Service was good I give them that. My sister stayed in one of the rooms but didn't like it said it smelt fusty.

Called in here for some lunch as passing through Thorne. Although it was a warm sunny day and plenty of seating could be had with parasols we sat inside in the lovely conservatory. The seating area outside was clean and the hanging baskets on display very impressive! Our meal orders were taken and drinks served by a helpful, jolly and courteous barman. All meals had were delicious, ample portion sizes and well presented. Our table was visited several times to make sure everything was ok and it was. The leftover pizza that someone had in our party was very kindly boxed up for them to take home. All food and drinks were very reasonably priced and the place had a lovely atmosphere. Recommend having something to eat here and a drink and look forward to returning one day.

Plenty of food for thecreception, no-one went hungry. Would highly recommend this place if you are having a small wedding and want to do it all in one place.
