£100 deposit on leaving room, which no-one told me about at time of booking. Deluxe Room? TV didn’t work and no one knew how to retune it. Kettle faulty. Only mirror 20 cm sq. Mould all around the base of the bath because the shower leaked. Shower powered by static pump so very very noisy. I found a maggot/fly on the vanity unit! The var was “ sticky” and only after 3 requests for a cloth was it wiped I was told I would get a call from the management…I’m still waiting Very very poor stay!!!

It is a nightmare place. We read the website and planned to stay there one night on our way back home from a family celebration. The hotel is not a hotel. It is a hostel for vulnerable disruptive people. It is run down, filthy and full of horrible rules made to manage dreadful behaviour. We booked through Booking.com and they clearly havent a clue what they are sending you to. We didnt stay and have asked for our money back. When we arrived they asked for one hundred pounds in cash in case we damaged the place. There are rules in the rooms and fines for poor behaviour. We left before we could find ourselves coping with this. DONT GO!

On arrival they wanted £100 ‘damage security’. The place was dirty, with threadbare carpet, torn wallpaper, door handles hanging off (kicked in?). House rules emphasised no drug use in the rooms. Realised it’s a drug hostel!! Demanded a refund and left pronto.

I can’t rate this a zero, but this place is nothing short of a dump! The place has stains everywhere, wallpaper/paint falling of the walls, smashed windows, ripped carpets, the list goes on! I didn’t even stay, advised I was leaving immediately for another hotel!

Avoid! Security 'deposit' scheme was twice the cost of the room, I paid in cash so I'd get it back straight away......manager was AWOL so it was left to the pleasant girls on front reception to sort out which wasn't fair on them.....the room block I stayed in was being refurbished so lock was dodgy, TV didn't work and it smelt of paint.....continental breakfast was very poor to cap it off. Bed itself was comfortable enough but I took photos of the room as proof it was left in pristine condition to get my deposit back (I decided to leave the bathroom alone as I felt they would look to charge for anything they felt wasn't right!).

Unfortunately there isn't a zero to rate this hotel. We arrived on Friday evening for our Anniversary weekend . Our room was number 33 at the top of the hotel each floor we passed got worse , dirty ripped carpet , filthy walls , filthy doors . Our door handle was broken , we had no curtains in our room just a dirty old net . The windows in both the bedroom and bathroom had big cracks in them . We decided we couldn't stay and told reception how disappointed we were as the photos on their website showed a clean and inviting hotel . I asked for them to show us the room that they had given us on their website they obviously couldn't , they said it was waiting for a refurb that's why it wasn't shown . They offered us a refurbed room in the annex but we needed to pay them £100 as a security deposit . We had seen reviews where people had paid this money and not received it back as promised on checking out so we refused to pay and left to go home .the refurbished rooms in the annex could be seen from the car park and we were not impressed, the curtains were falling down. And it looked awful. Lessons learnt look at real reviews not ones from their website .

We stayed at the Crown Hotel on 16th June 2023. When I checked I was asked for £100 from my debit card to cover any possible breakages and against my better judgement I paid this amount having been told I would get it back in 3 or 4 days. The room and indeed the whole hotel was being refurbished and not very clean. Its now over 3 weeks since we stayed at the Crown and still haven't got my £100 back.

We were booked here via hotels.com by our work for an overnight stay. On check in they asked for £20 credit card or £100 debitcard/cash security deposit to go into the apparent “new lodge” We kindly told them that wouldn't be happening as our worked had booked it, (baring in mind we have stayed in hundreds of hotels with work and never been asked for a deposit). As we were walking off she called us back and said she could put us in the main hotel in the “same deluxe bedroom” which we thought that should be okay. As we were walking to the room we noticed stains on the carpet, stains on the wall broken window just in the corridor. We both entered our separate rooms and could only be welcomed with something that looked old fashioned, battered and run down. The mattress when sat/led on was like lying on a piece of metal. I ventured into the bathroom to find the headset of the shower just in the bath and no where for it to hang to have a proper shower. The toilet had a crack in it and the basin taps were barely attached. We walked straight out and down to reception and said we weren't staying here. Our boss managed to sort out paying the deposit for the new lodge as it was late on and probably wouldn't find anywhere else in the area. The new lodge is average at best, still looks run down and very basic. I would give it a 0 star review but i can’t. If you get put in the main hotel, you might as well walk back out again as its disgusting and for £73/£75 a night the owners ought to be ashamed and embarrassed. Trying to use the excuse “sorry we are under renovation” absolute lies.

This is a hostel not a hotel. There is no restaurant or food available at all. There was a so called “DJ” who played loud music all afternoon continuing to 2am. The room in the annex was clean with tea and coffee making facilities but there was no chair and no waste bin and the music could still be heard sufficiently to disturb sleep. The reception area is dark and uninviting and it was claimed to be undergoing renovation but it doesn’t look like it is. The receptionist was not particularly welcoming and it was annoying when checking in to be subjected to loud music being played in the downstairs bar area. I would not return to this establishment or recommend it at any price and certainly not at £90/night.
