I have been visiting this pub as my local for 20+ years, and have loved many of the previous managers but this new land lady is gross. She speaks to her staff as if they were rodents. Stands at the bar drinking endlessly whilst mouthing off at staff and customers. When she does serve at the bar she forgets your order, spills drinks and just stares at you with this 'yeah and' look. Food has been up and down since she took over but honestly, this seems to coincide with when she is mouthing off at the staff. The place has been dirty for years, with mould and grime around the windows and table legs etc, but since she took over, it has gotten MUCH worse. I wouldnt be surprised if all they do is wipe the table with a dirty rag and move on. I wont be coming back, not whilst it is under her management, and I know at least 20-30 other people who are moving to a new local with me.

We visited the gate and had a fantastic eveining . We found the new landlady to be totally lovely and friendly. The staff were warm and friendly and made us feel welcome . Ordered food which was there in no time at all and was hot and beautifully presented and tasted amazing . The setting by the canal is fantastic and watched the staff who keep this spotless . Totally recommend this pub for food or drinks or to just relax and watch the boats pass . Well done to all concerned.

This has been my local pub for over 16 years. Never been the best price but always been ran by nice people with great customer service. Visited a few days ago, met with some friends and had a drink outside for the evening. I visited during the pub quiz and was happy to see people inside enjoying their time and playing along. I walked to the bar and asked for my drinks. The lady running the bar was as happy to serve me as I’d imagine someone wearing glass filled shoes would be running a marathon. I tried to make light conversation and was met with grunts and deadpan stares. This person made more effort shouting at other people, forgot my order 3 times and ran the drinks through the till wrong and overcharged me. Ever an optimist, I cracked on and had my drink. Next round came, same again. I’ve since been with some other family and friends and was shocked when we had our drinks order laughed at, upsold a double and mischarged for it AND had generally terrible service. The only saving grace was a different lady who served us and managed to be polite and get our order correct the first time. Still wouldn’t bother. Just wait for it to change hands again.

I won’t be drawn back for no amount ? The canal side sunshine and the weeping willow flowing the sunshine while drifting in the breeze would have been tranquil however mmmmm. Having the scraps from the fryer at the chip shop is better and more enjoyable.

Lovely little place next to the canal, staff are very welcoming and friendly who go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. My kids love coming here as well and that is a bonus. The quiz nights are a laugh and just love the nights with live music.

The Gate is our local pub and is lovely to walk to down the canal with the dog! Great staff, food, drinks and atmosphere. Plenty on with live music and quiz nights! Great pub and our dog loves it too!

I visited the gate inn for a meal and a pint and found the staff to be very helpful and polite. Had a home-cooked feeling meal and a pint in which I couldn't fault the food, service and the speed it was delivered, Definitely will be visiting again very soon.

Came to visit this lovely pub whilst visiting family in Tamworth. Lovely staff, food was amazing, and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely be visiting again. Can't praise enough how welcoming and polite the manager was. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all
