Great food, a good broad menu with lots of gluten free options ticking all of the boxes for an easy and extremely filling dinner. We both had the steak which was delicious and had masses of chips. If you want an over-priced deconstructed truffle fried something served on a slab of wood, then go to one of the many other Gastropubs that are failing to do a decent dinner. If you want a huge plate of very well cooked food, that is actually served on a plate, and pay a fair price for it, then come here.

The waitress was friendly, the food was awful. I still haven't worked out how it could be so vile. As soon the plates came on the table, I knew from the smell it was not going to be fun. I was starving and stupidly ate two thirds of my plate (fish), so did my partner, who had the old lamb! Should have left the place after one bite, but we had 2 hours drive ahead of us, and did not want to make a fuss. Had a very poor night sleep, due to a lingering after taste of mushroomy old socks which is still with me as I write, 16 hours later. What they did to that food is a mystery..totally unfair to serve food which not only taste horrible, salty and rancid, but also makes people ill! We did not even complain about it, what difference will it make? Sorry to write a bad review, but it is the worst meal I ever had. And I should not have trusted the generally positive reviews about the place.

Had a great meal during a week day lunch time. Was well presented and the lamb I had was delicious. The service was very friendly and efficient. Will definitely be returning.

This was a real find…. The staff were well informed about the food on offer & were extremely helpful with any queries we had…. The meal itself was beautifully presented & delicious…. Very reasonably priced . I would certainly return if in the area again ( in fact we did the night after) & have recommended it to the owners of the Bnb where we are staying to pass on to customers, family members & the like.

My disabled daughter only wanted cheese and crackers with a salad and onion rings There was no cheese plate on the menu, the proprietor could sense my daughter was becoming upset she kindly went to her apartment and provided my daughter with a cheese's and crackers WHAT OUTSTANDING SERVICE I had the sea bass cooked to perfection A really lovely friendly country pub My daughter and I have travelled vastly I have not found such kindness anywhere PS the coffee cocktail is NOT to missed !

We booked a last minute table for three for a Sunday lunch - arrived just before 5pm. Didn’t realise their service officially finished at 5pm however they were very happy to accommodate us. The food was absolutely delicious - great menu choices - not overtly fussy which was brilliant to see. I had mozzarella tomatoes and Basil starter which was really tasty. My husband had chicken goujons with a sweet chilli sauce. He loved them and could have had more. We then all had lamb roasts - great portion sizes for us and out little one. Really tasty, great veg selection well cooked. We then had desserts - again great choices available. I decided on a pana cotta (yum), little one had a couple of ice cream flavours and husband had brownie. Literally couldn’t fault our meal at all. Cleared our plates! Thank you to the team for fab food, Unrushed friendly service and great setting. Will definitely return and already recommended to family who are yet to visit for a meal.

What a brilliant pub. Food was exceptional and the service excellent. Found a new favourite. Staff are very friendly and the pub oozes olde worlde charm. The sea bass was incredible as was the pork belly. Don't even get me started on the dessert menu...impossible to choose. Highly recommend!

Very friendly restaurant pub with a great menu. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Best eating place in Long Melford.

Went here for lunch with my family, we were one of the first in when it opened midday and so glad we were as it soon filled up and was very busy for a mid week lunchtime. With only two front of house staff on they coped admirably and we certainly didn’t have to wait around to be served. We all enjoyed three courses even though we had only intended to pop in for a light lunch. We will definitely be going back.

My husband, daughter and I popped into the Hare in Long Melford on the hope that we could order some food and have a nice drink. We were greeted with a smile from Emily and throughout our time at the pub she was bubbly happy and always smiling. Absolutely in the right job we thought. So much so we all had a starter, main AND a desert!! Which is something we hardly ever do - mostly because we don’t have the room. The food was very nice indeed and it had lots of options for vegan ? and veggies like me . The place was very clean and tidy and had a lovely atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble either. We will definitely be back!! Thank You Very Much Indeed. K.A&J xx

We arrived at the Hare in Long Melford around 7:55 for our table booking at 8:30. The car park was packed, but we managed to find a space and walked in front of the building. The Hare is one of those pubs that you pass all the time, and the frontage has always put you off, so it was a pleasant surprise on entering to find a warm and inviting pub/restaurant. The menu reads well we order some excellent olives, I had a starter -Toast Skagen, Swedish prawn cocktail using creme fresh and dill on rye toast - We then ordered our mains -my wife had a 28-day aged 8oz Rump steak, skinny fries, roast tomato and peppercorn sauce which she ordered rare and it arrived medium rare which was fine) I had two fillets of gurnard and pea risotto which was delicious; we finished with a wide choice of ice cream. We definitely will be back.
