The food is good. Thursday night is games night to enjoy company and card / board games for the locals. The interior could use a little updating in some

Don't trust the opening hours on Tripadvisor. Not open at 1.15pm on Friday. We seem destined never to eat here as they were shut the last time we tried too

Informed staff I was coeliac & Chef said that they could do Gf sausage, mash & gravy off menu, it was very tasty & as a very reactive coeliac I had no reactions. Felt very welcome & would have no hesitations about visiting & dining again. It’s also very dog friendly & our Border Collie was made very welcome with treats from the dog treat tin on the bar.

Excellent. We (and our dog) were made to feel welcome. Great menu plenty of choice even for veggies. The pub was clean and staff friendly. Highly recommended.

Stopped off for lunch after a bracing walk on the Suffolk coast. Friendly welcome, fair selection of good, honest, pub grub, and clean surroundings. Tasty food, table service, very reasonable prices, and very dog friendly - our greyhound did not want to leave after all the attention and sampling the big box of dog treats on the bar.

My Wife and I had a lovely Wednesday evening meal at this quintessential English pub with excellent food. My Wife ordered Gluten Free Fish and Chips which were fresh piping hot and very tasty, I ordered the Classic Burger with Onion rings. When the Onion rings arrived there was also a portion of Gluten Free Onion Rings, these little touches make all the difference, both meals were excellent, the waiting staff were polite and extremely friendly with nothing too much trouble. If you are in the area this is a must.

Great local pub. Very handy if staying at Run Cottage Touring just down the road. A good selection of ales of which I sampled several. Probably going to nip over for Sunday Lunch and hope that they have the Arsenal vs Man City game on a bit later. Would certainly recommend a visit if in the area.

Stayed in the area and was recommended the Shepherd & Dog for an evening meal. I had already checked out the place earlier in the day with a swift Cider ( this one counts as sustenance as I was walking) and decided to return for my evening meal. The staff were very pleasant and friendly explaining that there was a large party booked in later that evening, so I went straight for the menu to avoid the kitchen crush. The menu offered a good choice and included vegetarian options as well. I chose a classic prawn cocktail to start followed by scampi and chips for my main. All washed down with a pint or two of cider. The food was delicious and the cider hit the spot. A great village pub which appears to cater well for locals and visitors in equal measures , not an easy task. The weather was hot so I chose a table outside next to a gentleman with two beautiful VERY well behaved dogs. ( apart from the Labrador which is obviously a master thief given his superb heist of a bag of salt and vinegar crisps from the bar ) Maybe the gent was a Shepherd ! Very entertaining. I would definitely recommend the Shepherd and Dog Inn at Hollesley.

Lovely pub - good idea for the fenced area for dogs. Enjoyed the food and good service. Very busy so had to wait awhile for food but this was well managed.
