We were asked to wait at the table outside while the lady prepared our sandwiches and drinks and then she brought them out on crockery etc so we just sat and ate there thinking nothing of it, but then when we went in to pay we were charged £20.20 for two sandwiches and 2 coffees when the prices on the board show as it being around £5 cheaper. When we asked about this they told us they were the takeaway prices and eat-in was more expensive. Instead of £4.80 as it says in the price list for the sandwiches we paid £6.90 per sandwich. This felt like a con to get more money from us - there were no signs and no mention of the takeaway prices being the only ones listed when we ordered. We also took our coffees to go because it had started raining and were still charged eat-in price. If the food and coffee were delicious I wouldn’t have even bothered with this review but the sandwiches were very dry and overall just not tasty. I ordered a BLT and there was no mayo or butter etc when served. The bacon was very sparing and looked borderline anaemic, there was literally a slice of cold bacon with a bit of mixed leaf and a quarter of a cherry tomato in. The coffee tasted like hot milk. I’m disappointed and won’t be returning. £7 for a sandwich is already a bit silly, please at least make the quality and flavour of the ingredients worth it! There is so much potential for it to be a great lunch spot.

Chimes for Lunch is a lovely outdoor cafe in the courtyard in front of Marks and Spencer. We had prawn and avocado, and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches. Both were excellent. Service was fast and the staff were happy to help. A well-priced cafe in the middle of Dorking.

Stopped off for lunch, lovely atmosphere, plenty of seating & very delicious food. Only downfall was the service. A young lad took our order, whether he was overwhelmed with the amount of people waiting to be served or something else it did put me off, especially as we had to wait 15mins for our cuppa. What brought it back was the food it was very satisfying & im going to give it another go.

Stumbled across this place by chance and saw the tables set out in the sunny courtyard. Had a really lovely early lunch and will definitely go back as they had a really nice menu. Very attentive staff

Just popped to Chimes for lunch as it was a sunny day and there was a table outside with an umbrella. Menu looked good and we chose the hotdog meal and quiche. My quiche looked nice when it came out but was very soggy when eating. Mary Berry wouldn't be impressed with the soggy bottom! Nice place, shame about the quiche

Nice outside seating area in s pedestrian precinct. The coffe is ave4age. and prices slither higher. OK place to stop for a short break. Would also accept cash for payment which is strange nowadays.

Went for lunch here today but got bored waiting for our order to be taken. Seems strange that it takes so long when there are staff doing very little behind the counter. They get one star because I couldn't post this with none it seems.

Lunch visit with friend. I had a Greek salad and my friend an egg sandwich followed by bake tray and Victoria sponge. The food was really fresh including a delicious light sponge. Generous portions and very tasty. The two ladies were very friendly and came across as loving what they do which was providing a tip top service at a reasonable price. What's not to like, would highly recommend this place.

I was looking forward to a takeaway latte on Saturday afternoon so I ordered one at Chimes, Dorking. The lady serving was prompt to serve me as I stood outside the doorway and friendly too. However, having placed my order and produced my credit card, ( in a day and age where cash is seemingly becoming redundant) I was told that only cash is accepted since ‘we don’t have a card machine’! So with the anticipated expectation of coffee unexpectedly declined, I walked away very confused since I didn’t have any ‘old world cash’. Maybe it was a good lesson in this all to easy pay and have world we live in? On reflection being disheartened by not being able to purchase a coffee helped me consider the ‘genuine need’ for a coffee fix or was it merely a conditioned reflex of ‘break time - coffee time’? Interesting I guess.
