Having to go to the bar to order and collect your drinks is a distraction from otherwise strong service.

I just popped in for a drink to meet a couple of friends. I had never been here before. A very old fashioned traditional pub with a nice atmosphere. I felt very at ease here. The staff were friendly and one very big plus point no Sky sports blasting out

Had a pub lunch with visiting overseas relatives. The small restaurant (called the Secret Kitchen) is a separate business from the Royal Oak pub. Separate staff and billing but sharing the same roof and access. An awkward arrangement if you want a drink with your food. They seemed to try hard and the quality of service and food were OK but not memorable. The atmosphere was a bit pokey and felt like stepping back in time 40 years. The Royal Oak's carpark requires caution. It is actually controlled by Initial Parking. I inadvertantly overstayed my pre-paid 2 hour ticket by 45 minutes and got hit with a £60 bill (reduced from £100 for quickpayment). My fault but it was enough to deter me from returning.Parking: Street parking is busy because of the paid parking lots. The street is two-way but wide enough for one-way traffic only because one lane is packed with parked cars. An odd ararangement.

So, it's a mixture between a local pub, a smart pub and a lovely restaurant.

Great pub, good service but had to go outside because beautiful bar was full of yapping barking dogs. When will selfish owners realise many people are not obsessed with their furry friends

Visiting this pub is like going back in time. Very reminiscent of he sixties and seventies. Very basic but nice. Service was good and we enjoyed it here for a couple of drinks. We did not eat in the restaurant

We popped in for a drink with some friends at the Royal Oak in Bookham in the high street. In some ways it was like going back in time at this basic friendly village pub. The service was friendly and it had a pleasant atmosphere

Stopped off for a quick burger around 7pm on a Friday and were very pleased with our impromptu dinner.Staff were lovely and since the restaurant was full we were offered an alternative place to sit outside. When an indoor table cancelled we were given the option to move indoors. Much appreciated!A good food recommendation given by the hostess too. Food was fresh, yummy and arrived quickly. Would happily come back if I was in the area again.

I was told that the food here was nice so I popped along with a friend and we had the chicken, stuffed with ricotta pancetta, pesto and paprika sauce with crushed garlic potato's and tenderstem broccoli ?. Absolutely delicious great flavours and will definitely be back! Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff too.
