Took a drive out from Essex to The Plough, and it didn’t disappoint. Had the best Roast beef dinner out ever! Roast potato’s were amazing. Even managed a starter and mini desert with coffee. Staff and new owners were a delight. Here’s to many more trips to Effingham. Good luck to you all x

Absolutely amazing experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The place was clean, welcoming, and had a great atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure everything was just right without being over the top.

Now the food — honestly outstanding. The kebabs were cooked to perfection: juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. The seasoning was spot on, and everything tasted fresh, from the meat to the salad and sauces. The portions were also very generous, so you definitely get great value for your money.

I also loved how quick the service was, even though it was fairly busy. Everything came out hot and fresh without a long wait, which made the experience even better.

This is easily one of the best kebab spots I’ve tried, and I’ll definitely be recommending it to friends and coming back again soon. If you’re looking for delicious, authentic food and great service, you won’t be disappointed!

Lovely pub with fantastic food but the staff made it! There were 2 young, blonde waitresses ( one Australian maybe?) serving and they were just amazing. Nothing too much trouble and so friendly. We arrived at The Dining Room- Japanese Grill expecting a good evening. What we got instead was one of those rare dining experiences that quietly reminds you why places like this develop such a strong reputation.

We arrived a little early and spent some time at the bar first. A couple of cocktails and a few small snacks later, it was already clear the evening was off to a great start. Harry behind the bar was fantastic- great drinks, great atmosphere and a perfect way to ease into the night.

Then dinner began and the real theatre started. Course after course arrived looking like something from an art gallery rather than a kitchen. But the real surprise wasn’t just the presentation- it was the flavour. Every dish felt carefully balanced and incredibly precise. The sushi and seafood in particular were outstanding: fresh, delicate and beautifully executed. It’s easy to see why the restaurant has earned Michelin recognition- the level of detail and care is evident in every plate.

The dining room itself moves with a quiet confidence. Vernon runs the restaurant with a calm professionalism that keeps everything flowing effortlessly, while Giovanni, the sommelier, guided us through the wines with real knowledge and enthusiasm to elevate each course.

By the end of the evening we realised something interesting had happened- time disappeared. Plates arrived, conversations drifted, glasses refilled and before we knew it the evening had turned into something far more memorable than just dinner.

Some restaurants serve good food.
Some restaurants serve beautiful food.
Very few create an experience you’re still thinking about the next day.

This is one of them.

I am a local resident to the village and have been using this pub for years, but in the last couple of years it seems have gone downhill, with the decor, music and food so I have not gone much. \nThe pub I believe has been recently taken over and wow what a difference. We went as a group of 4 adults and sat in the restaurant area. The waitresses we had, especially Imogen, were lovely, attentive and very knowledgable . I have an allergy to gluten and the waitress knew what foods off the top of her head I could eat and there were many to choose from, burgers, fish and chips, shepherds pie etc. The food is now now reasonably priced and the menu has a good choice. We had a few starters to share, pardon peppers, sausages and chicken wings these were all very lovely. I had the shepherds pie, wow how tasty and filling it was. You look a the portion size and think that is quite small but when you start to eat it, it isn't, I couldn't finish it all. \nThey have smartened up the decor a bit more now, the stale smell has gone from the pub and awful rock music that played very loudly above you has also been removed. After starters, 4 mains a couple of bottles of wine and beers I personally didn't think the bill total of £171 was a bad price. This pub is always expensive just for drinks but that is what I presume the brewery Youngs set. \nOverall a very lovely meal and evening and we will be returning soon.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and it’s always been the best kebab place in Surrey. Today finally confirmed it for me — I brought my Turkish girlfriend along as we were passing by, to show her the very first Turkish food I ever had. She genuinely enjoyed it and gave her approval, which says a lot. The döner and köfte are super tasty.
The owner is incredibly hospitable and kind, and has been running this place for over 50 years. Definitely go and give them a try.

So fresh and yummy!!!
I have tried their spicy chicken burger, chicken and fries today. Honestly all tasted so good and fresh even the smell OMG .Far better than KFC. I always have been eating KFC because of the name. Today I realised i was missing too much eating in KFC. Even their peri peri fries. No words to describe.
Very friendly service and large portions for a very reasonable price.
I will be their regular from today.

Been wanting to try the fish and chips for a long time so my friend and I got a delivery for our lunch. We ordered a 1/2 pounder large cod and chips we also wanted to call about a few things so we did and the lady was really helpful. The fish was so fresh and the batter was lovely not at all greasy the chips were great and the burger tasted lovely. We will definitely be ordering from here again. The only thing I’d add as an extra on the menu is cheddar cheese to go with the burger as that would make the burger even better
