Have read some very mixed reviews about this place so wanted to try for ourselves.Pub was quite quiet when we arrived, so we easily found a seat and had a look at the menu.Although it was very clean it was a bit shabby in places however looks as if it’s been getting a bit of a face lift. There’s a good range of veggie options available and we choose a ‘chicken’ and beyond ‘beef’ burger along with some drinks.Everything arrived quickly and piping hot and was most importantly, really tasty! Staff were friendly and helpful when asked about further bookings and Xmas, bringing dogs etc, checking the availability for us.Will definitely visit again!PS parking is across the road and you can get it free when you go in and use the screen at the bar!

Lovely food, vegetarian carvery lovely and filling. Staff friendly. I've never actually seen anyone else in there when I've been to pick up food but maybe it's just because I go nearish closing time.

Disgusting attitude from all staff as soon as we entered , glaring and miserable, told the lady we had a table booked for 11 people and she glared and muttered something under her breath and stormed off , came back and said to find our own tables , which were separated from each other , paid for meals , 2 of our party got their carvery after queuing for 15 minutes for peas?? Then the rest of the party were told there was no carvery for another 30 mins (bear in mind the other 2 were eating theirs) Then told there was no chips left for the kids. Only meat available was Turkey which we weren’t told about whilst paying, nor chips!! Not all our party like Turkey , the staff were rude and unhelpful glaring and arguing with us. On leaving the restaurant after we asked for a refund ., walking past the kitchen had a strong smell of marijuana and there was a member of staff I’m presuming it was the manager as she was dressed in black standing in the entrance door of the restaurant smoking a cigarette blowing it in our faces .We booked a family meal for New Year’s Day , some had travelled miles. Only 3 out of the 11 of us had a meal , the rest had to sit and wait for them to finish before we went elsewhere for a meal, Never will we be going back nor will we recommend.Your staff need retrained and I’ll be surprised if you get new customers returning, this spoilt our new year’s celebrations, Disgusting!!!!

Very disappointed today. Went after 5 p.m and sure we had the left overs. Chips were cold and tasted terrible and only half a portion. Chicken dippers cold too. It was quite quiet and we felt as though chef couldn't be bothered to cook any fresh food as he was sat at the bar. Couldn't believe what was served. Usually we are satisfied and never complain. But this time felt we needed too as cost a lot for what we had. Not be rushing back.

Went on Xmas day 5 adults 2 children first of all they were very understaffed but the staff serving were lovely especially the guy on the carvery , table was not set no wine glasses with napkins in like other tables had and although had some crackers on table wasn’t enough for everyone , soup for started was cold we waited 45 minutes from finishing our starter for someone to come clear away and let us know we could move on to carvery , food from carvery was nice , service was really bad but was told they were understaffed so was understandable , this was first time we have went out for Christmas dinner there was nothing really Christmassy abou it and would not come again .

Booked a family festive lunch for today. We arrived a few minutes before our booking time 12.00 and stood at the bar waiting to be greeted and shown to our table. We were completely ignored until I said we had a reservation. The reply was "we are still setting up and aren't ready yet! Just sit anywhere....." We found a table in the shabby restaurant area which could do with a deep clean and waited to be served. There was no festive menu on the table so I asked a man, possibly the manager who just pointed and said they are on the tables! I found one on the next table. Then I asked if anyone was serving and he said quite abruptly you order at the bar! So off to the bar we went to place our order, the young lady behind the bar was so miserable and uninterested we almost walked out but decided we might struggle to get a table anywhere else at such short notice so gave our order and hoped for the best. After a very long wait the starters arrived, loaded yorkies- 2 tiny soggy yorkshire puddings sparsely filled with some sort of dry tasteless meat smothered in plastic cheese. For the main course we had chosen the festive traditional carvery. The "chef" carved a choice of turkey gammon or ham in wafer thin slices and you helped yourself to vegetables and gravy. There was a bowl of sausages (just plain small sausages not even pigs in blankets) but we were not allowed to have one as we hadn't paid the £2 supplement to upgrade our meal to include a sausage! The veg was abysmal, the tiniest sprouts you have ever seen, red cabbage boiled to death, tasteless mashed turnip, tasteless carrots, the cheapest quality frozen peas, tasteless cauliflower cheese, bland sloppy mashed potatoes and the only redeeming feature, half decent roast potatoes. The gravy was congealed lukewarm brown liquid. Everything was barely lukewarm very bland with no flavour and very unappealing. When we got back to the table our plates from our starters had still not been cleared. After the very disappointing meal so far we waited for our deserts- nothing arrived so after a while hubby went off in search of someone to ask. Eventually the deserts arrived but the server didn't clear either the starter or the main course plates and just squeezed the desert plates around the mess. We couldn't believe it and the whole lunch had just descended into a complete farce. We had to clear them ourselves onto another table. The deserts were every bit as bad as the rest of the meal and they were all cold. We didnt waste our time complaining due to the indifferent attitude of the staff. I visited the ladies on the way out and although they were shabby they were clean, however its a bit disconcerting when your feet stick to the floor! This used to be a lovely restaurant but has gone way downhill recently and is in dire need of a refurb and a change of staff to people who actually take pride in their work and can at least be pleasant to paying customers.

Visited today for the first time in a very long time for breakfast. We were greeted with a smile and served promptly at the bar. The breakfast was very good. The service from the chef, Lucy was fantastic. She was very polite and made us feel like very welcomed not just another customer in a line. Well done team, we will be

Beautiful Sunday dinner, I actually enjoyed it more than toby carver. Went for my birthday and wasn't disappointed. Only down side is the seating arrangement are very squashed unless you book the big tables. And people are walking back and forward while you eat which for me personally I don't like. It is a cheap Sunday dinner compared to most and worth every penny though. Staff were helpful and pleasant.Parking: Free parking across the road from pub, if you put your registration plate into the tablet when you arrive. If you don't then you will get charged so be careful.Kid-friendliness: Park out the back of the pub, ice cream machine

Looking forward to a carvery. The meat was very thin and only warm, the veg looked like it had been there all day.all in all very disappointing.

Just called in for a lunch time meal, car park across the road and sign in at the bar. Decided on the carvery at £8.95. WOW! choice of beef, turkey or gammon, then serce yourself to yorkshire pud, stuffing, carrots, bubble &squeak, sprouts, cauliflower cheese, crispy roast and mashed spuds and delicious onion gravy. All fresh veggies and well cooked. Worth every penny and highly recommended. They do breakfast as well and looking at the menu you couldn't make it for that price. Only live a couple of miles away so guess where we are going next time for a cooked breccy, on till 11.30am.

First time having breakfast there & definitely the last time!!! Hardly anything ready, family had to wait for ages for eggs, I went after them & must’ve waited at least half an hour for dishes to be filled up. Food was luke warm, dried up black pudding & dread to think how long the bacon & sausages had been there A member of staff asked what my problem was!!! Told her the lack of food was my problem! Chef standing in bar area chatting to another member of staff instead of sorting food, staff just didn’t care, tables dirty, wooden seating areas dusty, plenty of staff on duty & hardly any customers so no excuses! Not to mention the place being freezing as boiler was off so not able to wash hands in hot water after toilet visit! Have used this place for evening meals many times, no idea what is happening but the place has gone downhill rapidly!! Stonehouse group you need to get this place sorted out & back to the good food/surroundings it used to have.

Cold burnt and not on time dirty tables shocking disgusting food mains out then starter half hour later some of party finished while others not received theres

Lovely food yet biggest downfall is the waiting time for food (around 1 hour) and then the waiting time for dessert when there was only a handful of people in. However overall food & staff were excellent, as well as a park outside for the kids .Kid-friendliness: Plenty of choice
