Just a perfect meal as always We lived especially the sea bass with fresh vegetables and the tiniest mist beautiful new potatoes The soufflé my husband had for dessert was incredibly good I loved the home made chutneys with the cheese and the Medlar cheese Champagne was good value Altogether a fantastic meal

I cannot express how much I appreciate the genuine kindness and good humour at the 1861. We went there today for lunch and the food was amazing, beyond that nothing was too much trouble for Kate and Simon. You will be hard pushed to find a friendlier more welcoming restaurant, where nothing is too much trouble. It is the little thoughtful touches that can make all the difference and when they just happen without asking, or even realising that you needed them - you know you are in good hands. A perfect meal, in a perfect setting - what is not to love.

A lovely warm & genuine welcome from Kate set the stage for our lunch, with complete flexibility to choose elements from any of the menu options. Service was prompt, informative, & professional without being rushed. Food was beautifully prepared & presented, with obvious quality of ingredients elevating each dish even further. Attention to detail in all aspects was obvious, as was the passion & hard work Kate & Simon have put into their business. A real gem of a find, & we’ll certainly be returning.

Our trip to 1861 was just perfect, from the incredible food to the exceptional welcome, I cannot fault this place. Its definitely our new favourite for any special occasion! I can't recommend it highly enough

We have to say from start to finish everything was perfect. The food was amazing, every mouthful was full of flavour and the portions were just right! The passion fruit soufflé was one of the best deserts I’ve ever had. Kate was absolutely lovely and even gave us some really good places to visit with my 2 year old nephew!! Can’t recommend enough and can’t wait to go back when we visit again!

A family meal for my wife's milestone birthday. The original menu did not suit all. It's a high end restaurant and the husband, Simon chef, and wife Kate, concierge, give a fantastic welcome. They invited me to the restaurant and they professionally guided me through to a menu that suited all. The food was exquisite, the timings perfect and the outside welcome / fairwell was perfect. The attential to detail is second to none. All that is presented is fresh, locally, that day. You can't be frugal with cost here but you come away with a historic and memorable cuisine jackpot. You must try it.

My meal was initially planned for the 18th of February but due to the storm it was cancelled so we went to lunch on Saturday the 26th of February instead. When we arrived at the restaurant we found out that we were the only customers for lunch on that day due to the rugby so we had the restaurant to ourselves and personal service from Kate. I have been going to this restaurant for many years but it was the first time for my daughter and she was very impressed with the food and the service. I never have a complaint about this restaurant and have always recommended it to people and will continue to do so. Thank you Kate and Simon for making my birthday lunch a special one...

We went here to celebrate my husband 60th birthday with friends and the whole evening was a night to remember. We did the tasting menu and it was divine and superb value for money. So if you are looking for that special venue for a night of excellent food, atmosphere and friendly service get yourselves a table at 1861. You won’t regret it I promise

We toom our daughter and husband for a meal and all four of us thought it was a superb place to eat. The setting is beautiful, the welcome and service is exceptional and the food is superb. Portion sizes are fine dining standard, which mean you can eat well and not feel stuffed. We think that this is now our favourite restaurant.

What a beautiful venue with amazing service and food.My sister and I arranged a surprise 70th birthday meal for my Father. Simon and Kate were amazing in helping us creating a bespoke menu for the occasion taking everyone’s dietary requirements into consideration as well as offering a bespoke childrens menu and drinks menu.Having visited this restaurant a number of times over a 10 year period, I would highly recommend a visit or even speak to Simon and Kate to hold an exclusive gathering.

Just back from a lovely meal with the family. Lovely service and fabulous food at a realistic price. We had seafood starters & meaty mains which were all tasty and very well cooked. The one of everything desert was also a big hit. Decaf coffee was good too.
