Firstly what lovely staff they're a credit to the hotel. My Mum is 86 & finds sometimes she's too low at the table. Before we said anything the man (restaurant manager/head waiter)asked if she would like a cushion so that was very kind. We both had the pork which was lovely, very tasty. I was a little disappointed in the flavour of the small trio of desserts, so I was glad I didn't have a normal portion of any of them. Very unusual for me to not finish a dessert but the mandarin & pistachio Eaton mess tasted like soap to me & my Mum tasted it & thought it wasn't nice too. Choc & cherry very rich & I love Frangipane tart but it was too rich with mincemeat so dessert was a let down but everything else was superb. I would recommend to others.

After visiting the Christmas food market what better end to the shopping than a visit to The Angel. Lovely Christmas decor as well as a great option to have the All day Menu as well as Sunday lunch. Pheasant leek and mushroom pie a winner and the fish and chips always excellent. Tart tartin as good as anything in France. Food and service excellent. If you’re visiting Abergavenny before Christmas it’s worth a visit.

Six of us had a nice dinner a couple of days ago. Lovely venue, art deco atmosphere with a nice and welcoming staff. We had a couple of bumps ordering drinks (you will need to clearly identify what you are asking for) however, the staff quickly wanted to fix the issue without any hesitation. Food was good, a really nice complementary pork belly taster was delicious, really nice fresh bread. We had spaghetti with crab an interesting and tasty dish. One issue with the fish dish which was over cooked, again the staff took the feedback with appreciation and then comped one of our bottles of wine (unexpectedly) so services and attention to detail was great. I would recommend.

The staff were phenomenal, very attentive but didn't hover. Wonderfully friendly and joyful. Made us feel very comfy and not rushed at all. We had a beautifully delicious meal, to start we made our way through the delightful seafood platter between four and we were very satisfied, so asked for a break which they were very respectful of and didn't rush. When we were ready we asked for the main, which was just as delightful as the starter. All the food was phenomenal and couldn't speak more highly of the staff.

Been 6+ years since our last visit to Abergavenny, in the past for the food festival. Having sampled a few of the excellent restaurants the town has to offer, including the Walnut Tree now owned by the same group, surprised we hadn't done the Angel; an error we very happily corrected. A quiet Monday lunchtime still had enough buzz in both the Oak Room, where we were, and the Foxhunter Bar and the multiple menus - available in both areas - was a masterstroke. We probably would have given both the Lunch and All Day menus more attention, but having unexpectedly run into family who live there ( couldn't make it up! ) they suggested to miss the 'deal' that is their Prix Fixe, if we liked the dishes, would be to miss a trick...and boy were they right. We mixed up both the starters and mains and they were simply superb. Add service that would not have gone awry in a 5 Star hotel in any Capital, and a lovely birthday gesture, simply from overhearing it's mention, was a truly professional touch. Planning on now making this a quarterly ( if not monthly :-) ) lunchtime notation in our Callender. First Class.

The Angel's Oak Room has long been the place to go where you can count on it being excellent food and good service. This time the food, except the bread which has become an issue, was excellent but the service due to some poorly trained new staff was very poor. There are some wonderful people who work here that we have known for years. Wake up management and deal with the new staff that are damaging your reputation. And.. You have your own bakery, why be mean with the bread?Dietary restrictions: Usually the staff are sensitive to my needs. The waiter on this occasion was dismissive and almost rude.

It's a restaurant inside the Angel hotel. A classic bistro. Fantastic service, good food. I'd especially recommend the lamb, and the cherry coupe for dessert.

Located within the charming Angel Hotel in Abergavenny, the Oak Room restaurant is a classic bistro that leaves a lasting impression. The service provided by the staff is fantastic, ensuring a great dining experience. The food is good, with a standout recommendation being the lamb, which is delicious. For dessert, don't miss out on the cherry coupe. The Oak Room restaurant at Angel Hotel is a hidden gem that combines a cozy atmosphere, excellent service, and tasty dishes.

Had a meal with family last night, as ever glorious food and a real occasion. And one of the few places that can cater well for vegetarians, as well as carnivores.

I have been here many many times and not once has a meal not lived up to my expectations. The steak filet with red wine jus is other worldly, the plaice goujons being my go to for starter. The service is always impeccable too, Patrick I believe is his name is regularly our waiter and every time without fail he ensures we have a great experience and have all we need. While it is not cheap, you get what you pay for. Having eaten all over the world, it is The Angel that I look forward to revisiting the most.

Food and service were amazing. Fresh and very tasty. Staff were so accommodating towards my elderly grandmother who struggles with her mobility. Moved us to a more comfortable seating area, and helped me to walk her to the car. They went above and beyond for us and it didn’t go unnoticed. Very appreciated, thanks all!

A bit sad to do this, as we dined at the Oak Room in June 2022 and it was a 5 star experience. Unfortunately this time, we were seated around 8:15 pm on a Friday and then absolutely ignored by the servers for almost 30 minutes. The restaurant was maybe 1/3 full, so not busy at all. After 10 minutes, we were forced to call out to a passing server just to get water. The waiters continued to ignore our table, which was in plain view. They stood at other tables and chatted with the patrons, most of whom they obviously knew as regulars. While it's certainly nice to have such friendly waiters, not at the expense of other diners like us! At 30 minutes in, worried the kitchen would soon be closing and ready to leave without dinner, we were forced to ask for attention from one of the waiters. He was one who had served us so ably and attentively back in June, but tonight, even though he stood chatting for 10 minutes to another table 15 feet away, he totally ignored us. We then ordered dinner but by the time it arrived at 9 pm, we had lost our appetites over the appalling service. I'm American and not shy about confronting a waiter in a very busy restaurant when I'm ignored or overlooked. However my wife is British and would be appalled by such manners in a serious place like the Angel Oak Room, especially when it was not even busy. After looking forward to this dinner for weeks, sadly we had a thoroughly lousy time and I don't think we could return or recommend it.
