Large cod Fish was the size of a jumbo sausage in batter ... large portion of chips would serve 1 child, soggy batter awful ... and it cost £10!!!

For me Irene's used to be the best chip shop In barry now its the worst. Chips were inedible could only pull out a few 'okay' ones for my son. The sauages were also awful and the sauces were cold. Won't ever go here again

Fantastic chippy. Location: not far from Barry Island / Porthkerry / surrounding areas. Bought two meals for £9. Reasonably priced. But the food is second to none. ?

Wouldn't use this again blonde girl with glasses today quite stroppy when she said ten minutes for chips I said ok potatoe fritter instead please slammed the till draw shut threw the fritter and sausage and batter in the paper flung it on the counter no option of salt and vinegar the place has gone gone down hill rapidly always young kids in there serving she either needs to go back home or pack it in! Il stick to Harvey's from now on!

I ordered OAP portion of chips which were slightly undercooked and very few amount of them. Portion almost half the amount it used to be and was a couple of weeks ago. Also ordered halloumi and said I was happy to wait, they were very undercooked.

I’ve been a fan of this restaurant for ages, but had recently read a review that suggested that the food wasn’t as good as usual. It was with some disappointment that the chips this evening did not appear to have been freshly cooked and were consequently cold, hard and rubbery. This too made me reconsider whether I will be using this restaurant again in the future. Sad how the standard seems to have fallen so far!
The Fish was good but the batter could have been crispier the chips were just plain awful , very soggy obviously been cooked for ages .

I've been going to Irenes for the last 20 years but since the last two years the food has been poor love my fish and chips the fish was a good size the chips nice and brown the fish now is small the chips not cooked though I understand Costs have gone up but when you pay over £10 for fish and chips it not good I did go back to see if there had a bad day one week later but it was the same pity

It's ok. Pubs. And Irene's is hit and miss. When fresh food. Watch the timings don't like left overs and re heated food from lunch.

We used to use this place regularly as their food was always very good. Now the food is awful. Chips are soggy and tasteless. The young kids they've got working there all have bad attitudes and could do with some lessons in customer service. Very disappointed that this place has gone so far downhill. We won't be using them again.
