Slightly weird concept - sports club/gym/spa attached to hotel. Still, room was fine, buffet breakfast was acceptable and staff were friendly. Only one issue to report... when I had finished the work I was doing in one of the function rooms there was no food left at the bar - at 2200! Blimey I was hungry. Hotel very handy for Mway.

Checked into the village hotel and had to change rooms 3 time because not up to standard, dirty dusty rooms. Lovely food in the restaurant Breakfast and dinner and staff very friendly. Had a few issues and wouldn’t stay there again.

Myself, my Husband and my daughter stayed here for 2 nights last weekend. Upon arrival we were asked whether we needed the sofa bed made up and we said yes. After checking in we went straight to our room to drop our bags off. The first thing I noticed was that there was a screwed up towel on the sofa and a bottle of cleaning fluid on the table. I assumed a cleaner had forgotten them until we took a closer look at the room and concluded the cleaner had also forgotten to CLEAN the room! The carpet was covered in little bits of god knows what and had absolutely not been hoovered (see photo). The surfaces, especially the bed side tables, the windowsill and lamp base was covered in dirt/dust (see photos), and the walls had dirt/stains on them (see photos). Everything was grubby and battered. It was disgusting! We left the room after about 10 minutes and went down to the bar for dinner. The staff there were lovely and were so friendly, but the lack of vegetarian options really let the place down. The only three options were a spicy pasta, a quinoa salad or a veggie burger…and the veggie burger was ‘out of stock’ on both nights. Half an hour into our meal my Husband went back up to the room to get something and he noticed the sofa bed had still not been made up. It was also getting dark so he turned on some lights. There was no main light, only 4 wall lamps, 1 free standing lamp and 1 desk lamp. I say ‘only’ because the black free standing lamp didn’t work as the bulb inside was broken, the whole lamp was filthy and bent out of shape (see photos). The 2 wall lamps either side of the window didn’t work because one contained another broken bulb and the other had nothing in it! (see photos). The 2 wall lamps either side of the bed worked but they had been battered to the extent that they wouldn’t stand up…they hung down and due to the half-bowl shape of them the light only lit up immediately around them (see photos). This only left the bathroom light and the desk lamp. Both were insufficient to light such a dark and drab room. My Husband immediately went down to reception and told them of the issue with the lights, the fact that the room had clearly not been cleaned and that the sofa bed had still not been made up. The lady turned and spoke into her radio and said they would ‘sort it’. After finishing our meals we unfortunately had to return to the room and by this point the sofa bed had been made up. I took my daughter into the bathroom to brush her teeth and noticed blue toothpaste on the tap handle (see photo) neither mine nor our daughters toothpaste was blue! Absolutely disgusting! So I had to clean this myself. Although the sofa bed had been made up, the cleaning issue we brought up had not been sorted as promised. The bedside floating shelves were battered and weren’t secured to the wall properly so we were unable to put drinks on them (see photo). The whole room was grubby, battered and despite bringing the issue up, nothing was done about it. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. So disappointing, really put a dampener on our weekend.

Hotel is in a great location and the swimming pool / gym facilities are fantastic but we found the hotel very noisy, especially on Monday night when a wedding disturbed our sleep until 2.00 a.m. Disappointed that there are hidden costs, parking for example when you are paying this much to stay here

Visit this hotel regularly when I visit my mum. Staff are very friendly and helpful and go the extra mile to help. Spa and pool are always the right temperature, not too busy. Hotel rooms are mostly clean, beds are comfortable. Restaurants are a bit expensive, not always cooked well, food let's this hotel down for me.

Everything was just messy and untidy and not clean. Our room hasn’t been cleaned on arrival and the next room offered wasn’t really up to standards. Prices at the bar were very expensive as well. Not the best stay

All hotels in Cardiff over the weekend of an international rugby match were expensive, so in that sense this was good value, though I object to paying £5 extra to use the swimming pool on top of a room rate of almost £180, so we didn't. Our two rooms both suffered from poor shower enclosures, leading to puddles on the bathroom floor. The lever to switch between shower and bath was broken in one. The soap/shampoo dispensers are fixed so high up the wall that you wouldn't be able to reach them if you chose to have a bath rather than a shower. The washbasin taps are very awkwardly placed. Breakfast was OK, but the music in the lobby and restaurant was uncomfortably loud, so the atmosphere was not at all restful. On the positive side, all the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

A mix-up with our reservation meant that we actually stayed in two rooms for our two-night visit. Both had similar disadvantages - a shower screen which wasn't water-tight leading to puddles on the bathroom floor; soap/shampoo dispensers positioned for someone standing to use the shower, and therefore far too high up the wall for someone using the bath; taps very awkwardly placed on the washbasin; no drinking glasses provided in the bedroom; poor bedside lighting. We didn't try the swimming pool as I object to paying £5 on top of a room rate of £179. Breakfast was OK, but the music in the lobby and restaurant was far too loud to be restful. I will say that all the staff were pleasant and helpful, but overall, this is not a hotel we would choose to visit again.

The room we stayed in was lovely. Very clean, had everything we needed. Only downside the food was expensive. £28 for a mixed grill what you got was not minimal. There was not a lot of beer choice.
Pool freezing! Told 26 then told 28 but it was cold and so cloudy?? Jacuzzi wasn’t hot and the chlorine was to strong it burnt our eyes and everyone’s in it. Changing rooms were filthy dirty . Bar was full of unruly guests. Toilets on main floor were absolutely disgusting! If coming for a relaxing weekend DONT!

Bloody awful service!Waited ages to get food to table and when it arrived the SPECIFIC items we requested not to be in the food (and were reassured that Pyle not be), were indeed there!Obviously they don’t care about their customers requests or dietary requirements!Much better cafes and restaurants just a 5-minutes drive down the road!

Lovely hotel and staff go out of their way to make your stay amazing. Room was large with all amenities. Food in pub and grill was lovely and service was quick. The pool was a nice area to relax and unwind. Breakfast had a good choice and staff were very attentive. Amazing stay and the staff are fantastic!

I'm still in shock that we had to stay in such a filthy room. I would not recommend anyone to stay here. So disappointed with Village Hotels. I do not understand any of the positive reviews for this hotel. Either people have extremely low standards or we were given a room that was exceptionally dirty. Our room was full of thick dust everywhere. Mold and scum in the bathroom, stains in the toilet bowl. Stains and marks all over the furniture, walls and floors, we had a dirty kettle and mugs, threadbare carpets and grease dripping down the doors. Look at the photos I have attached for this review. Need I say anymore......?

Stayed here for the night in a club room, great price, room was spacious and spotlessly clean. I requested a room at the back away from the road and my request was accommodated, was very quiet. The pool and changing rooms were excellent and the food did not disappoint. The friendly face at check in was lovely. Would definitely stay again.
