“Visiting the area from Devon we visited The Fox 31/7/25. Very friendly and helpful welcome from the bar staff as we hadn’t booked and although busy they fitted us in. The atmosphere was buzzing with lots of locals popping in and out. The starters were a little expensive but enjoyable. We then had beef pie and ham hock and leek pie, both with silky smooth mash, gravy and veg- proper homemade pies not the sort with a flaky pastry lid. Both were delicious. We shall return again when visiting later in the area. Highly recommend.”

“We’ve eaten here a couple of times now and there’s a good range of food on the menu from lighter snacks to full meals and the big plus is that they serve food on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes too, when many in the area don’t even open.”

“A nice little country pub selling real ales mostly local and local wines from the vineyard next door. They have regular pop up street food kitchens inside which change from time to time.”

“We’ve been coming to The Penny Farthing for a few years and the food is always delicious. Today my Daughter and I came for a girly afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. We were extremely impressed with the quality and variety of the food. The presentation was fantastic. The variety of sandwiches was wonderful and the miniature cakes were out of this world! We would definitely recommend the afternoon tea and would come back again. We need to give a special mention to Andrew who served us. He was outstanding and a credit to your team. Nothing was too much trouble for him!”

“From start to finish, my experience at Shampan was nothing short of exceptional. The food was truly out of this world — I ordered the chicken madras, and it was cooked to absolute perfection. The meat was tender and succulent, the spice level was beautifully balanced (just the right kick without being overpowering), and the portion size was spot-on.

The poppadom tray and accompanying sides are an absolute must — fresh, flavourful, and the perfect way to start the meal. The garlic naan was the ideal companion, perfectly sized and perfect for soaking up every last drop of that incredible sauce.

The service matched the food in excellence — warm, attentive, and effortlessly professional.

All in all, a flawless 10/10 experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!”
