No mention anywhere that they don't do food on a Monday

We visited The Barley Mow this evening for a meal and was absolutely shocked by the quality of the food and the indifferent service. We walked through an extremely noisy bar area into a completely deserted and empty restaurant. I stated I'd reserved a table online via their website, but the woman and man behind the bar didn't seem to know about the reservation or even really care.We were told to just sit where we wanted, which was quite easy as we were the only two diners in the restaurant. We ordered a Margarita Pizza, a Rich Homemade Lasagne, a bowl of Thrice Cooked Chips and 2 soft drinks. When the food arrived, the pizza, which the menu stated,'All pizzas are hand rolled to order' was perfectly symmetrically round and looked and tasted exactly like a cheap supermarket frozen pizza. To be fair, the lasagne looked fine and tasted good. The Thrice Cooked Chips were thick, chunky, piping hot and tasty, but didn't lool as if they were triple cooked. When I went to the bar at the end of the meal to pay, there were no pleasantries like 'did you enjoy the meal?', 'was everything OK?', 'hope to see you again' etc, it was just 'are you paying by cash or card?'The whole place looked like it was in desperate need of some TLC and the staff just seemed to be completely indifferent to us being there. My partner regularly visited The Barley Mow some 10-15 years ago and said it used to be a very warm and welcoming country pub that was always heaving; it served fantastic food and you'd have to book weeks in advance just to get a table in the restaurant.Having had a meal there this evening, I can completely understand how...on a Saturday evening... there were just 2 of us eating in the restaurant! We definitely won't be going back.

I don't know what has happened to The Barley Mow but this pub used to be a great place to go for drinks and food!If I could give a 0 score I would. My partner and I went for a meal on a Saturday evening. We booked online to make sure we had a table. We walked in and the bar and a handful of noisy locals shouting and screaming. But the restaurant area was cold and empty. Completely empty. Not a good sign for a Saturday evening. The bar staff were as welcoming as a wet fish! We said we had booked online and instead of saying welcome and take a seat, they looked at each other and said they hadn't seen any booking. Oh well we were the only ones there so it wasn't as if it mattered. We should have walked out there and then.We ordered a hand stretched pizza and lasagna.Hand stretched! Oh my goodness, the pizza was so perfectly round and flat that there's no way on this earth that it had seen any hands on it at all. Machine rolled I would have said.It was like a 99p frozen pizza from Lidl! The staff were totally disinterested in their customers, one customer in the bar area even had to ring the pub to get them to take an order for drinks!Little to say that we will never go back and we'll tell everyone we know not to go there. Which is a shame because 10+years ago it was a lovely country pub. Not now. It's been run into the ground. At this rate there won't be a pub lift soon anyway.Cool, unwelcoming, disgusting!Avoid.

Great atmosphere in this little village

We had pre booked but still no sign of food after an hour. It was cold and the room looked unused and unloved so all five of us walked out. A restaurant with meals prebooked and offering roasts must surely have everything ready for the time of the first booking. This was a wonderful pub when I knew it as a teenager and on from the 60s through the 80s. Now rubbish.

Always a great Sunday lunch!Proper old school country pub.Perhaps a little hidden away in the beautiful village of graig Penllyn in the vale of Glamorgan but well worth the adventure!Food & drinks: One of the best Sunday lunches around

Large car park, great roast and service. Only let down was one incorrect meal causing one dinner receiving their meal once we all finished, but she said the delicious vege wellington made up for it ❤️

We always eat there and top notch food but alas last week the chef left the owner in the lurch and he tried his best to do the catering but it’s impossible on your own. So a little breathing space is needed till new chef is hired.

This used to be the one of the most welcoming country pubs in the area. Many evenings spent with family and friends. Food was always amazing as was the atmosphere. There was only 4 of us in restaurant, 2.5 hours later and 3 out of 4 steaks inedible ?disgusting. Will never go back.. such a shame . The waitress was fantastic. Felt so sorry for her being the go between… chef never showed face ?. It was also freezing.. talk about saving fuel costs .. uncomfortable and disappointing .

A very traditional pub, I'm sure it could be dating back to some 400 years or so. A very warm environment and lovely clientele.

Fantastic environment with a great owner. Food is out of this world for a country pub.
