What a welcoming and friendly place, enjoyed the farm tour and everyone was really helpful. First time for a South African meal. The safari tents were great and so pleased with the electric blankets, great idea.

A fantastic 3 nights at Cart House Cottage, amazing weather, lovely accommodation and amazing setting in the beautiful hills above Hay on Wye. The farm was quiet as the schools had just gone back (we were 3 adults) and it was a midweek stay so we couldn’t enjoy the renowned Sunday lunches. We would love to go back.

Our first experience glamping and we will be back. The beds and bedding were better than at home, facilities were excellent. Pizzas were delicious on the Friday and the Sunday lunch was spot on. Wish we'd had the barbecue on the Saturday we had barbecue envy. We had some car trouble and had to stay quite a bit longer than anticipated but Paul, Kesri and Marta were so kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a fantastic holiday.

Drovers Rest is a beautiful collection of cottages, cabins, safari tents, and bell tents. We were a group of five families each with two children and wanted to be in close proximity so we chose to stay in the bell tents. These were spacious with a double and two single beds. Beds were comfortable and the flooring made the tent cosey. Our tents were grouped together and we had gazebos for shared space and cooking. The kids had a large field to play games together. The facilities were great, with clean bathrooms and hot showers as well as a fully stocked kitchen. There is a bar and small restaurant on site which was great. The kids loved the free farm tour and feeding the animals. Drovers Rest is a 10 minute drive into Hay-on-Wye which is a lovely town full of independent shops.

Drovers rest is the ideal family site for a comfortable, unplugged holiday. Our family of four enjoyed our safari tent tremendously… cooking outside, listening to the rain as we sat by the log burner, drinks around the fire pit. Our children had a brilliant time exploring the grounds with new holiday friends. The farm safari was a highlight at the farm and we enjoyed days out in recent Hay on Wye, Brecon and at the Four Waterfalls. Thanks for such a great break away!

We LOVED our stay at Drover’s Rest. We had The Cart House and a Safari Tent. Both immaculate, with brilliant beds and beautiful bed linen. They were both equipped with everything we needed. We had a couple of evening meals which were fantastic and a hearty Sunday Roast. The surroundings are glorious. The private bathrooms for each Safari tent are beautiful. The bar, outdoor seating area and dining barn all have a lovely atmosphere. And the hosts are fab too! Couldn’t ask for better really.

We stayed in Ramming Ewe and had the best time. The weather wasn’t perfect but it didn’t stop us having a great time. Definitely one for active families looking for something more than sitting by a pool. The tents are amazing, felt really warm at night, especially with the electric blankets. You have all the home comforts you need. Only difference to home was the walk to the bathroom. The bathrooms are very high quality and you get your own one to each family! Met some fantastic people including the owners and staff. Will be looking to come back next year, just with more of our friends.

This was my second visit to Drovers Rest giving the Safari Tents a go this time with my boyfriend and his two children. We all had a fantastic time, the children loved being able to explore and play on the farm within a safe environment. The tents are well equipped with a fresh water tap and power along with a few essentials to get you started. The shower block is luxurious and spacious only a short walk away with each tent having their own bathroom and a communal washing up area. The food is fantastic sampling the fish and chips this time round, I have also had the chance to sample the Sunday lunch and curry night which were both delicious! Another great experience was the farm walk, I’m not sure who enjoyed this more, the children or the adults! Oh how could I forget the campfire experience set in the peaceful woodland making smores! Paul and Kesri have a beautiful place that is ideal for those looking to escape to the countryside. Marta couldn’t be more helpful sorting us wood and charcoal for the wood burner and bbq. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, we will definitely be coming back!

Visited Drovers Rest for pre-booked Sunday Lunch in June 2023 to celebrate my girlfriend's Birthday. I was forced to pay up front (£30 per head) prior to the meal which I thought was strange but nevertheless, I was expecting an amazing experience considering the reviews. We arrived at Drovers Rest on a Sunny Sunday afternoon, getting out of the car to delicious smells from the BBQ fires working away so we were both excited - unfortunately this is where our experience took a dramatic U-Turn. We were asked to pick our own tables and then the meal would be brought out to us. After choosing a table - the full 3 courses arrived in its entirety, all served at once. It is worth pointing out at this point I thought the server had only provided the starter due to the quantity of food provided as I knew just by looking at it that I would be hungry afterwards! The Sunday lunch comprised: Starter - Homemade stodgy bread with an overpowering, pungent, acrid pesto. Main - Tasteless, dry, overcooked meat, very few grilled veg, frozen Aunt Bessie Yorkshire Pud and weak, watery gravy. Pud - Indistinguishable fruit cake and cream - passable at best. We began to eat our starter which had a very strong homemade pesto which completely overpowered the pallet. We were acutely aware that the main meal was getting cold at this point so felt very rushed to finish this course. Main meal - the meal was clap-cold by now - more as if it had been served straight out of the fridge rather than freshly cooked. I needed to get out of my seat and hunt down some salt and pepper grinders in a futile attempt to get any flavor out of the tasteless meat - how this could be so bad considering the initial smells from the grill is beyond me! Finished off with the cake which was nothing to write home about. The experience here was terrible and ruined what was supposed to be a special meal out which we had driven almost 1 hour into the countryside for. A number of guests were out enjoying the sun, taking photographs with their extortionately priced drinks thinking it was good - we just wanted to make a quick exit as soon as possible. I am absolutely flabbergasted reading previous glowing reviews of Drovers Rest as this was hands-down the worst meal that I have ever had out, one that I paid a high premium to have. Feel as if I've completely had me pants pulled down! I am angry with myself that I did not challenge the staff and request my money back in full as it was appalling, but I did not want to embarrass my girlfriend on her special occasion. No doubt they would have refused a refund and not be able to process this due to taking payments prior to the meal - a complete scam! I longed to find a chippy on my drive home so that at least I could get a bag of chips and forget about the whole experience. Drovers Rest - Avoid like the Plague.

Our extended family group (parents/children/grandchildren & dog) stayed at Drovers Rest over the bank holiday weekend at the end of May and had the most fabulous time. We had seen photos of course but nothing prepares you for the beauty of the setting and as i'm not a huge fan of roughing it, I was delighted to find that the tents were really well equipped. The beds were super comfy (and had electric blankets in case it was chilly) and the bathrooms (each tent has their own specific facilities) were clean, spacious and warm. The family who own and run Drovers Rest are friendly and helpful - ask them for recommendations for places to visit - they gave us directions to a super swimming spot. We ate at the farm on friday night, sunday lunchtime and had brunch on monday before heading home - what a treat! The food is so good and the word has obviously spread in the locality because there were lots of non residents enjoying their sunday roast. A special mention must be made to our expert cocktail maker -- she made the weekend extra special. Our grandchildren ranged in ages from 8 to 18 months and all of them had a great time, learning about the animals (thanks Raymond) and struggling to hold a wriggling sheep, having pony rides, playing on the play area and toasting marshmallows on the secret campfire. My 5 year old granddaughter said that it was the best day of her life - high praise indeed. We loved the fact that the children could run around safely, there was so much space for them (and us) to enjoy. Its rare to find somewhere that ticks all the boxes for our extended family but everyone agreed - it was the best weekend ever - Thank you all so much Jane and the gang

Second time in a safari tent at Drovers and it was even better than the first. We had such a brilliant family holiday, so peaceful and fun. The tents themselves are more comfortable than you could imagine, the beds superb and warm, the outdoor space looking across the meadow is a stunning environment. Close enough to possible friends for the kids to make to be convenient, but far enough for quiet conversation as the sun goes down. Great wifi, amazing showers and clean EVERYTHING. Paul's farm tour, Marta's infectious enthusiasm and the delicious breakfast were our highlights, as well as our campfire and smores in the woods, which are breathtaking. Full on family fun, and Hay on Wye just an 8 min drive away for all the books, coffee and delicious food you could ever need. Our dog was probably the happiest we've seen him so far this year. We'll be back again, I'm sure.

Beautiful farm, lovely hosts, amazing food, can't rate this place highly enough. Kids loved the animals and the freedom. Recommend the waterfall walk and the book shops in Hay on Wye which is just 5 minutes away.

What a fabulous place this is. First visit for Sunday lunch but won’t be our last, the food was perfect, the staff outstanding and the location tranquil. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink in the courtyard. Such a welcoming place. Great value for money.

Sunday dinner was amazing, so warm and welcoming. Felt so relaxed the minute we arrived. Stunning countryside well worth a visit. Prices reasonable. Planning our return visit’s already. Just what we were looking for.

Great venue. Rustic and simply decorated-South African Style...Eclectic African Jazz...well cooked roast, yummy vegetables...loved the courgette and squash. Especially loved the houmous and pesto starter, oh yes and the Malva pudding. A South African dessert, a little like sticky toffee but not sickly sweet.Kid-friendliness: Definitely kid friendly
