We are from out of town staying at Black Hall Lodges near by.Stumbled across this place on google looking for places to eat and it was absolutely lovely.Portions were huge and delicious and the staff were friendly.Would definitely go back if we’re ever in the area again

Lovely pub with friendly staff and locals. The food was excellent ?We sat in the snug and toasted ourselves in front of the wood burner after a walk.

Great food and the Superior Room was very spacious if a tad cool when the heating wasn't on.It can get noisy on a Saturday night.

The barman smelt of BO! Put me off my beer! And didn’t even serve us! My previous visit they were so understaffed we had to go elsewhere. The woman behind the bar wasn’t interested people waiting to be served as she was on the phone. Appalling. The pub used to be humming.

Had a lovely evening here.Food was delicious highly recommend the chicken and bacon enchiladas. My husband had a Steak pie & my son had a burger all was beautifully presented. It was a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was full so sat in the main bar in a lovely old inglenook fireplace that has been made into seating. The barman said we were welcome to use the snug as the fire was lit but we were very happy where we were. Will definitely return a lovely friendly pub.

I have only had the food here, but it was exquisite!Made me feel like I need to come back one day and try everything, it was so fresh and beautifully made! London food is put to shame, really and truly.Horlicks Brulé with a lemon shortbread biscuit. I've had a proper french Crème Brulé before, but I do have a sweet tooth. It was creamier and yummier by far.The cheesy chips even surprised me with their deliciousness.I wasn't a fan of the burger, but thankfully I'd chosen the steak and ale pie and it was phenomenal. Could not finish all of the chips and veg, wanted to, but I would have taken well over an extra hour and been stuffed. I'll be thinking about the pie and chips for years to come. Was a bit hot, but better than being cold! And the staff (one in particular, but I didn't get her name!) were so friendly! Made both visits seem like the perfect choice.

We had a Christmas meal with a large group of friends, and it was absolutely lovely. I can’t fault the food (everyone enjoyed what they had) and the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended! The only reason I have given a 4- rather than 5- rating is because of the really poor choice of vegan food. I nearly didn’t go because the only offering on the menu was arancini, which is what I would expect as a starter, not a main meal. A message to ask if other options could be offered resulted in a suggestion of nut loaf, which was much more acceptable, and turned out to be probably the best I have ever had, so I really don’t know why it wasn’t on the menu. I didn’t have a dessert because there didn’t appear to be a vegan option. It would be wonderful if the obviously excellent chef could offer more vegan/vegetarian food, because I would certainly be a regular visitor if there was better availability - which must be true of a lot of people. Without last night’s experience, I’d just look at the menu and go elsewhere, which would be a real shame.
