Went for a festive lunch with friends. It was okay but lacking what I would expect from a hotel restaurant of the grandeur they imply on their website.I'm sure the vegetarian Wellington was filled with boiled down soup as it tasted the same as the starter! Was missing the spinach pancake and mushrooms; but the Cointreau cheesecake dessert made up for it, yummy.Service efficient if a little rushed.May return in a few months to see if things have improved.Walkability: Large car park with disabled spaces and lift in hotel to all floors.

Went here for Christmas lunch the food was nice and the service was good although one of the staff that served us was quite aggressive when she asked us if we were having turkey! I put that down to stress, but altogether it was a pleasant experience. The hotel is dated and old fashioned but I liked that.Walkability: Disabled access with a lift

Visited the hotel for a work function - so I can only comment on the hired room, staff and food/drinks. The room provided was a good size for our group, it had table space for us all to sit around with our laptops and various belongings. We had a TV for presentation use and were provided with branded pads for notes. Staff that came in to provide refreshments and lunch were polite and friendly. I have a nut allergy and was offered an alternative lunch to that provided for other staff, which came quickly and was perfect. Would recommend room hire for this purpose.

We visited the hotel to spend some time in the lounge. The place is quiet and perfect for a cup of tea. Next time we visit Wales, we will definitely stay in this hotel.Food & drinks: Great coffee and drinks.

Basic hotel, but clean and staff friendly and helpful. We had a fire evacuation at 12.15am, a bit confusing could have done with more information, but all turn out ok.Rooms: OK., but warm, bathroom had been refurbished and was nice.

Went to the restaurant for a Sunday lunch and found the whole experience extremely disappointing. Between getting eye rolls off the very rude members of staff, and the tasteless overpriced lunch I won't be revisting any time soon.

Very disappointing stay here. Promised luxury but actually feels old and tired. Room was very small although clean and nice bathroom. Spa swimming pool etc all good. But we booked the dine and wine break - and were very clear in the booking that we were booked at a show and needed an early meal. There was nothing in the promotion to suggest that the restaurant had restricted opening times. So on arrival we were told that it only opened at 7 and our show started at 7.30. Only after a fuss were we offered a £20 pp credit at the brasserie which opened at6. Food was ok not great and service very slow. Breakfast had a good range of options but tea was tea bags and hot water in a small cup - no teapot available. One urn ran out and was not refilled. Again the room felt dated and tired. I would not stay there again. But good proximity to town, to the lake and to local walks.

So I stayed here over the years having a great experience. Previous the food has been to a high standard interactions with staff have been fabulous. Previously staff made you feelwelcome , with excellent customer service . This weekend found staff rude , argued over food and completely disregarded our views on what was very expensive poor food !First time staying here in a year ( since the recent sale ) and hasn't it gone down hill! food in dinning area , paid £44 for a filet steak which was not to standard with what was meant to be fresh veg clearly frozen from a bag although told it was freshly prepared . no customer service . On line stated fine dining fresh produce from local area , they fail to say from some local supermarket chain .If you stay here i would suggest eating else where and don't expect any customer service . Waiter tried serving me my mustard on plate , no one offered us to get drinks , hotel was not fullIf the owner reads this i would encourage them to look at how they are running this hotel as our experience was not like the other years of being here !Food & drinks: overpriced food was like school dinner chips and veg overcooked / over microwaved

My family and I (three grown-ups, a six year old and a one year old) enjoyed such a happy four nights at The Metropole. We have been before and it is the one hotel my eldest daughter consistently asks to return to because the staff are so friendly and she loves the pool. We stay on the Bed, Breakfast and Dinner package which is extremely good value for money and the family room is the best example of such a suite in any hotel we've stayed in in the UK: it's spacious enough for all the beds, all the luggage and there's still room for the girls to play. The Metropole has become a very special hotel to my family and I and we look forward to returning.

Called here for a light lunch on way home from South Wales. Did not want a full meal in the dining room so opted for the brasserie/sun room. Disappointed as only sandwiches were on offer, nothing else. We chose coronation chicken and roast beef options, both served with coleslaw, side salad, and crisps. The roast beef was thin slices of shop bought packet beef. The coronation chicken was very bland. The bread slices had a thick covering of a butter type spread which we had to scrape off before we could start eating. The standards here have definitely gone down since the last time we visited as has the range of light meals on offer. Won't be visiting again.

Expensive food and drink with mediocre quality. Very much catering for Coach party tours. General ambience is of faded Edwardian spa hotel clinging on despite changing clientele. Simply not good value for money.

Awful.... such a disappointing hotel.Staff were not overly welcoming and restaurant was full so no where to get a meal on site after travelling all day. Room was so bad and resembled a prison cell as the window was small and you needed a chair to stand on to see out! Breakfast in the morning was at a sticky table with cheap sausages cold baked beans and cold hard fried egg... not the best and will not recommend or stay there again

The rooms where nice, the service in the restaurant was rude loud, the the waiter shouting at us as if we where in the way. The food was nice, but salt down with no finesse. The breakfast was bad. Lots of choice, but beans where gross and watered. Toast poped out of the toaster on to the floor. Bacon was yuck, would you stay hear again ? No

Stayed 3 nights relaxing hotel who cater for motorbike weekends came up with ocean bmw from Plymouth I devon. Didn't use the spa facilities Didn't have time out all day. Thank you to all the staff who looked after us. Oh great breakfast hot and fresh perfect ?Rooms: Rooms very clean ni e not to see mould around the shower. Lovely clean bath bit small ok for ladies but my 6ft 2 partner wouldn't fit in. We were 422 not bad but only 1 socket and we had to take out the plug to the TV as a second socket not good when you have to charge bike helmets ready for the next day. Apart from that great.
