Went here for Sunday dinner. I had the lamb. Could not fault it. I would book in advance to avoid disappointment.

A very pleasant lunch ,being honest I've knocked off one star on the food score as I was a little bit disappointed with the lack of choices / range on the lunch menu , but it really warrants more than a 4 , if I could I'd rate the food as 4.9 , just a tiny disadvantage with the number of dishes available .The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly , the staff were pleasant , they had 2 gorgeous , extremely well behaved little dogs which some non dog lovers might not like when eating..... but they were impeccably behaved , very cute , and no bother at all . I wanted to smuggle one home with me ?.The food was delicious , very tasty , well cooked and nicely presented .Will definitely eat there again soon , best food / pleasant atmosphere I have found in Newtown .

A charming family run gastro pub set in the middle of Newtown in Wales. The food is outstandingly good, the friendliness of the owners and staff made us feel very welcome. Most of the customers were local I think, and very friendly. The pub and restaurant spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. I overheard the landlady tell another customer that the pub and restaurant had been going 29 years under them, I'm not surprised, there's a reason for it's longevity it think, evidenced below... We visited during our log cabin holiday nearby, for Sunday lunch. I had the seafood platter to start, 'fish fingers' (fresh pieces of fish battered), fresh scampi and whitebait. All deep fried to perfection, juicy, succulent, fresh tasting, absolutely gorgeous with a sense of the sea throughout! The whitebait in particular was crisp on the outside while remaining fleshy underneath, and tasted yummy. It takes real skill to turn out this type of deep fried seafood with such perfection. Served with a small side of fresh salad leaves in a crisp dressing and a fine tartare sauce. First class! Next came the wonderful Welsh lamb shank, big, cooked to tender perfection in a delicious gravy, with incredibly tasty roast potatoes (crisp and seasoned on the outside while fluffy inside), creamy mash, and a mix of carrots/peas/root veg, all cooked to fresh tasting perfection. A rustic dish prepared with a real touch of class, using local ingredients... Absolutely outstanding! My better half had the chocolate brownie and raspberry ice-cream dessert which she says was soft, melty and delicious. The guest bitter was excellent and just as it should be in the glass. The portions are generous, you won't leave hungry. 2 people with 2 courses each, 2 beers, 1 coke and 2 coffees = £54... yup that's right, £54 incl drinks and coffee!!! Eat this quality of food etc in, say, London, you would expect to pay at least 2.5 times as much, probably more, I would say. This place is a real hidden gem, well worth the visit if you are visiting Wales anywhere near Newtown.

It’s our third time visiting and we just love it can’t wait for next year. From the friendliness of the welcome when we arrive to the most amazing food. Cooked perfectly and served by fantastic staff. The choice and quality is something else. Lovely cosy setting we stay all afternoon and evening. Thank you for always making us welcome and keep up the excellent standard.

We loved this place! A real find for anyone looking for a high quality meal and a friendly pub with plenty of character. The food was seriously excellent (think gastro pub with local ingredients and top service) and we were lucky enough to be able to watch the rugby semi final v South Africa with real South Africans (rather than welshies pretending to be) in a banterous bar next to the restaurant. Top place.

Wow. I loved this restaurant and if I lived closer I would 100% go and have a meal quite often. A brilliant restaurant with friendly staff and even a special meal made for me! If you are in newtown a definite go to restaurant. Loved it

Absolute perfection on a plate! meal out with my sister last night before going to the theatre. As soon as we stepped in we were greeted with a very warm welcome and it didn't stop there! Service was above and beyond. They made us feel so comfortable. The food was the best I've ever had out. The spiced soup apertizer was delicious and an unexpected extra treat! We had a share brie and creamed garlic mushrooms to start. Because we were sharing it the staff gave us extra crockery and cutlery without us asking! they just knew how to look after us! For main we both decided to have the vegetarian option which was a goats cheese tart with beautiful veg sides and a moorish tomatoe and pepper sauce. At one point I was recreating the scene from when Harry met Sally! Every mouthful was savoured! It was perfect! We finished off our cheese themed mal with the most amazing lemon cheesecake and the cake base was genius! icecream side was so creamy and flavourful! It was worth every penny and even though I live in Shrewsbury, I'm already planning my next visit to the wagon and horses! Thank you guys for the most delicious meal and and welcoming atmosphere. Like I said it really was perfection on a plate!

Just had the most wonderful Sunday lunch! Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted absolutely delicious. Service was efficient and friendly…in fact, everything was spot on! We enjoyed it so much we have booked again for Thursday evening. Sadly we are just visiting this area. If we lived closer I would happily drive to enjoy food and service like this! Thanks to everyone involved for a great Sunday lunch!

This has been more than brilliant! As a good cook & I have an Italian family, this place has astonished me with its dishes. Full of flavour, seasoned correctly & cooked to perfection. Staff were wonderful, couldn’t have asked for more & would have rated it a 6 star. This guy should be on Masterchef! Very impressed. Can’t fault a perfect meal.

Visiting friends that took us to this gem. Staff were all lovely, helpful, friendly and polite. Setting was comfortable and had a lovely ambiance; I had garlic mushrooms followed by lamb rump, both really good and good value. I had an injury to my right arm and my dinner came out cut up for me and with a spoon! So kind and thoughtful! Wonderful place

We were visiting nearby Caersws and the owner of our holiday let recommended here. There isn't a car park but there is plenty of on street parking. When we walked in, they were just opening up but they got us all a drink whilst they were getting our table ready. We were shown to the restaurant which was really lovely and quite a surprise. There wasn't a vast choice on the menu, and whilst 5 of us knew what we wanted, my fussy adult son turned his nose up. But after speaking to the friendly waitress she offered him sausage and mash which was ideal for him. 3 of our party had a starter before moving onto the mains. 2 of them had the brie sharing board which they really enjoyed. They would have liked a few more slices of the crispbread to go with all the yummy grey cheese and my son had soup which he enjoyed. For the mains I had chicken, which was lovely and really well presented. But I wish I'd have chosen the fish that my mum and daughter in law ordered as it looked delicious a.d I live cod. My husband had a steak, and my eldest son had lamb. They were all presented perfectly and we all demolished our food. I don't usually order a dessert, but as my son wanted to eat just about every one of the menu, I agreed to order one so we could all 'share'. The panna cotta and sticky toffee pudding were amazing. The restaurant was full for a Thursday night and I can understand why. A lovely recommendation if you fancy good quality food in pleasant surroundings
