We were in the area for a family get together and stayed two nights with Saul and Jacqui. The rooms were spotless and really quiet, which was amazing given the pub was really busy - it's obviously a very popular place! The food was lovely, the staff were incredibly friendly. We feel like we've found a gem for next time we're down. Thanks very much all. Catherine and family

Booked last minute as I needed a stopover due to a change in work plans, and what a great find this place turned out to be! The owner made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. Millie behind the bar was fantastic—friendly and attentive. The accommodation was spotless, with a very comfortable bed, and the food was absolutely outstanding. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone passing through or looking for a welcoming stay.

What an incredible find. THE BEST Sunday dinner we have ever had out! 13 of us and service was great, food tasted beautiful and the place itself is so clean and tidy. We will definitely be back!

Waited over an hour for an overpriced microwave Sunday lunch. Absolutely shocking experience.

It has been many years since my last visit to this pub, so I called today to inquire about a Sunday lunch booking. While they were fully booked, they kindly accommodated us for a limited time, which was perfectly acceptable.

The garlic mushroom starter was exceptional; possibly the best I have ever tasted.

We then enjoyed a mixed meat (beef and chicken) roast, which was abundant, hot, and included extra gravy, a delightful bonus. The roast was delicious and deserves the highest praise.

The restaurant itself was spotless, and the service was excellent. My only concern was the bill. We had intended to order the £26 three-course meal, but when we were about to order dessert, we were informed that the mixed meat roasts were not included in that deal. I wish they had mentioned this when we initially ordered, as I would have chosen a single meat option and included dessert.

Despite this minor setback, I will certainly return and highly recommend this establishment.

Lovely guest house, handy for visiting World Heritage Site 'Big Pit' 5 miles away.
Nice rooms, good menu, lovely staff & owner Saul. Reasonable prices, and good bar.
Highly recommended.

Nearby activities: Big Pit mining museum, Blaenavon.

Food & drinks: Good menu, should please everyone. Very accommodating owner got in dairy-free margarine and milk for me.
Bar prices very reasonable.

RIGHT, I was outraged to find that you have changed the burgers, the old burgers were truly a beauty, the new ones are crumbly, messy and unpleasant tasting, you can change your pub all you like, but you stay away from my burger! I’m not mad just disappointed.yours sincerely Noah cunningham

A little gem of a venue, hidden the heart of a Welsh valley, steeped in coal mining and victorian industrial history. Lots to see and do in the local area, fabulous walks on the doorstep too.

Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Also there is a children's playarea and this looks to be well maintained. There also appears to be seating outside, perfect for warmer sunnier days.

As you enter the restaurant, you can see it's meticulously clean and well kept. Decor is modern and comfortable in style.

The toilets are very clean and well presented with a unique design and a nod to the local coal mining history of where the restaurant is located.

The bar is well stocked, offering drinks for all kinds of palates and budgets, including tea and coffee.

The food is absolutely divine, and the chef is very knowledgeable of the dishes he has designed. I visited on Valentines Day, where there was a choice to order from their exclusive valentines menu and the regular day to day menu. There are a lot of different choices to suit everyone's tastes and budgets.

The food is well designed, prepared with care and love, and I'd say the gentleman who prepared it most definitely has a passion and flare for his craft. He was more than happy to come to the table and describe the different dishes on offer and chat re options available.

There was also a specials menu too.

Overall, I would highly recommend this venue.

Also to added I visited a second time with friends.

The venue was again clean and staff friendly.

We chose from the light bites menu. This was equally prepared with love and meticulous detail. I had the ham and handmade chips option with peas and was equally as good as the more intricate dishes sampled previously.

Thank you to the chef and the service team who made both visits immensely enjoyable and relaxed. We will definitely return.
