A lovely, varied menu catering to all tastes.

Not sure they want cyclists in when it's busy. Turned away saying they were full but could see a few empty tables. Granted they may all be booked but we also saw people leaving after we left and there was no "hang around we may have a table soon", just simply, no. No effort to explain otherwise and manage why we're looking at empty tables and not allowed to sit down. Never known a cafe to book tables for lunch too, in fact, can't even sit yourself down, have to wait, what kind of cafe is this? Not ideal for a cafe, you're not a restaurant. People come into cafes out the blue.

Wonderful afternoon tea as a birthday treat for mum. The table had a Happy Birthday sash as decoration, and mum's scone came adorned with a birthday candle! The staff were friendly and obliging, even when my husband gate-crashed! He was quickly given a menu so that we didnt lose all our cakes! All involved contributed to a lovely afternoon. We came here following word of mouth recommendation and we will also be spreading the word! Thank you so much ?? Gem of a place with fresh, tasty, home-cooked goodies.

Really nice afternoon tea out for a family birthday. Staff were very welcoming, lovely atmosphere. Service was friendly and relatively quick though our toddlers meal was missed off the order but this was rectified quickly and without issue. Food was lovely. Nice to have some savoury items with the afternoon tea and there was plenty of food. Would certainly recommend.

Went to this quaint tearoom as part of a small family get together. What can I say but I found a secret treasure of a place with wonderful food and service. Great choices serving with fresh salads. Lovely atmosphere throughout. The place was full with a selection of age groups which was nice too. Staff were so accommodating too ,every one happy and welcoming. This is a place I must return to. Well done to everyone who works there .

At £20 per head this must be the most excellent tea in the country. So often afternoon tea majors on the sweet over the savoury but here, as well as three different types of finger sandwiches there is a warm quiche, warm sausage roll and warm savoury scones with butter and pickle. Then come the sweets - scones with jam and lashings of cream, meringues with cream and strawberries, lemon cake and chocolate brownies. Everything is homemade and obviously so. A huge selection of teas and coffees with unlimited replacements. We had to bring home the brownies as we were beaten. Altogether recommended 100% and I will visit again. NB - you need to book ahead.

Really saddens me to be writing this, this has been one of my favourite places for over 10 years but this is the second visit in a couple of months where the food has been terrible, and today I don’t feel the staff were overly friendly either. Visited for a birthday treat with friends, had to ask to be served, then the waitress appeared a little miserable. Food came out and I’d ordered a Grilled Halloumi salad, at £10.70 I expected a nice full salad, what I was actually presented with was a small amount of chopped bits at the bottom of a bowl, no eggs as stated and quite frankly no where near enough salad for £10.70! I sent it back for the eggs only for it to then be brought back out with avocado instead and told they had no eggs. I do not like avocado so at this point I sent it back and didn’t eat anything. The member of staff (sue) was apologetic and offered me chips, but I’m currently trying to make better food choices and was looking forward to a nice salad. As this is the second bad visit recently I am afraid I won’t be back. Such a shame as it’s a beautiful place but has really gone downhill recently.

Can't fault anything about Sugar Plum! The staff are all welcoming and friendly!Food is plentiful, and portions are generous, but prices are very reasonable!Great options for vegans, vegetarians, or those with allergies like myself!Seating inside or outside!Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a lead! There are plenty of parking spaces. There are 2 disabled bays, and the toilet is disabled friendly. The whole cafe and shop area is wheelchair friendly, plenty of space to manoeuvre around! They also do a delicious afternoon tea at £20 pp with a £10 deposit when booking. We had this on another visit.Dietary restrictions: I have a Dairy Allergy, so I ordered off the vegan menu. They didn't have what I wanted put together on the menu, but where happy to make adjustments for me! I had the Granary toast (which was a doorstop slice) with avocado and poached eggs. They put a lovely pesto drizzle on and a couple of halved cherry tomatoes... all for £9 which left me stuffed, and it was so tasty!
