My husband and I recently visited with his parents. The food was absolutely lovely but for the price point, the atmosphere is not good at all. Although there is some nice artwork on the walls, the general decor and overall atmosphere is very drab. The toilets are also in need of an update. We really enjoyed the food but I honestly think that the overall experience does not reflect the cost.

Stopped for a pint of ale after a long walk. Friendly, well kept beer. Finished off with a coffee chaser.

Went for mine and my girlfriend joint birthday. Seen it on TV and immediately booked it. The food was exactly what I expected. Welsh rarebit was amazing. Shame it was only one piece instead of 2 pieces as I seen. But then my fried oysters came then my pork with confeit potatoes. Lisa had cauliflower steak with celeriac puree. Absolutely beautiful flavour. My friend Anna literally couldn't talk whilst eating her chocolate tart. I could go on and on. I thoroughly enjoyed everything.

Kitchen was closed when we arrived. But the place is lovely and staff super friendly. Wines were great too!

Fairy tale pub deep in the countryside with innovative cuisine making great use of excellent local produce, interesting wines, and a warm welcome from attentive staff. For cooking of this quality pricing is very fair. It most certainly is worth the extensive detour.

Well what can I say, can't speak highly enough about this wonderful restaurant. Been meaning to go for a long time and did not disappoint in any way. Food absolutely delicious from the snacks, starter, main courses and desserts. Quality superb. Service could not fault in any way, a pure gem of a place. Will be back very soon.

First time visiting The Black Bear, well what can I say ? Perfect from start to finish! Excellent food, starters mains & deserts. We had our 5 year old granddaughter with us and Joshua the owner and chef provided us with a dish that she enjoyed, but I must say we have eaten in a few Michelin star restaurants and they don't seem to cater to the younger generation... so hats off the the chef. Also, the waiting staff were most accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Would we eat here again? Most definitely, would we recommend? Most definitely. Can't wait to return. Oh and by the way with regards to a previous reviewer who complained about the price of the Welsh rarebit, I think they called it cheese on toast. It is not cheese on toast! It is a rarebit which includes a few more ingredients than cheese and bread and takes time and skill to produce. In my opinion well worth the cost as was everything that we ordered.

We're visiting some Welsh Gastropubs and we had a fantastic meal here. Really great selection of snacks, delicious oysters and croquettes and a beautiful seafood main course. Really interesting wine list and fab, friendly service.

I recently posted a poor review of what I thought was this place.. when it should have been for a similar named establishment.. I can only apologise to the owner, and anyone who read the review.. This place ‘Black bear inn’ usk is truly amazing. Just returned from having lunch, the best quality and cooking I’ve had in a very, very long time.. cannot recommend enough..

This is our second visit, we last came about 3 years ago. We only had mains and shared a dessert this time as we'd had a big breakfast. The food was outstanding though, even better than our first visit we thought. amazing slow cooked beef and a brilliant halibut dish with a white wine sauce, both absolutely spot on! Nice selection if wines by the glass, not loads of beers on tap but a good selection of drinks all the same and lovely warm service. Flabbergasted by a couple of recent reviews, you can't please everyone though, keep doing what you're doing!
