We didn't know the area but wanted something to eat. We googled Pubs near Atherstone and the Black Horse came up. When, we drove up I nearly drove on, as from the outside it didn't look too good. Boy am I glad we didn't. We were greeted in the car park by the Landlord and Landlady who were very friendly and informative, making us feel at home straight away. This place was amazing, a small restaurant laid up like a 5 star one would be. Then a cosy les formal Garden Room. The menu had a really good choice for a town centre pub. We both chose the Frank Parker's Sirloin steak, which we requested Blue. When the meals came they were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection and excellent quality. As were the accompanying vegetablesFor dessert my husband had Eton Mess and I had the Chefs Special of Salted Caramel Cheesecake, both of which were to die for.We are looking forward to eating here again and feel that it is well worth the nearly 80 miles round trip.

Visited from Kent for a family christening.. Arrived after church service.. went out to marquee which was hardly ready, looked dirty, untidy & unorganised. Thought bar in marquee would have been set up as almost 100 guests.. sadly no. Went into bar to order drinks at 12. Told bar not open yet .. WHY! went back to an extremely full bar as guests arriving all requiring a drink... service slow as only 1 barman initially...then they were having trouble with card payments, making it slower... Returned to marquee and noticed no tables out for buffet at 1pm... joked maybe only one plate of sandwiches & sausage rolls for us all. Sadly it wasn't much better than that... arrived late... when I say arrived a cake arrived first... Nut cake , one of the children who had been christened has a severe NUT allergy (great start) so that sent back to kitchen. 20 mins later a plate of rushly made cheese sandwiches, 10 mins after that some brownie cakes & a apple tart type cake cut up... as everyone was hungry (especially the children) they disappeared rapidly. Then a plate of chopped up sausage rolls & a few samosas. Buffet came out in dribs & drabs, waiting 10/15 minutes for each plate to arrive.. in total food served for almost 100 was one plate of very cheap square chopped ham sandwiches, one plate of egg mayo & one plate of cheese..( not even platters) plate of sausage rolls, plus the brownies & apple tart... at £9.95 per person charged it was by far the worst food I have ever witnessed or experienced... most people left to go and buy food in town.. people had travelled & were hungry... This amount of food took abt an hour to produce after constant asking by the family.. Drinks service was eventually being offered. But it took ages, wrong drinks arrived & over charged or expensive for one soda water, 2 pints of larger & a J2O £18.90 Used to use this pub for many family events , meals & as a pub at weekends.. sadly never again.. It was embarrassing & a shameful display of food, service, cleanliness & how to run or organise an event...

New managers. Food excellent, went for sunday lunch. I am so fussy about Sunday lunch dining out. Have to say I was really impressed. I had the Turkey, only thing let it down was , there was no stuffing. Everything else was really tasty and well cooked. Husband had the beef, melted in the mouth.

We were staying in Atherstone, but our accommodation did not serve food.Wondering along the High Street, The Black Horse was recommended to us for an evening meal.We entered, and were then shown to the restaurant area of the pub, which was tidy, neat and well presented. The Food, however, was AMAZING..... All of their meat is sourced from a local butcher. I had a Chicken Kebab and my wife had one of the best steaks she has ever had. We had no room for dessert, but an adjoining table seemed very impressed. Also very good value.....As we left, we noticed that they also did breakfasts. That meant that the next morning, we were queuing up to get our fill of bacon, sausage, eggs etc. Again all locally sourced and served in the breakfast area of the pub.We would highly recommend this place as a place to eat.

Food was awful , had gammon something I’ll only eat at a pub it came out over an inch thick (probably carved off Sundays gammon joint leftover) looked ok but white /just warm in the middle so stopped eating Peas shrivelled up , eggs were ok - about the only good thing Left most of my food & wont be returning Staff were lovely but it was cold inside the restaurant part (heating was put on but didn’t warm up) From what used to be a good place to eat I wouldn’t recommend

This place has such an opportunity to be amazing but unfortunately due to lack of planning and organisation it was terrible. The medium was a sell out, yet no extra resources were provided and the food was shocking. Firstly our table was given to someone else, noone could find the reservation book and one of the three options on the menu were sold out. There was one waitress assigned to one room of 40 people !! And at 9pm I was told my meal order was no longer on the menu. There was no thought given to the customer around the planning of the night, inc variety of meal and service. There was a massive opportunity to upsell on waitress service drinks, extras on sides but due to scrimping on staff we were left hungry and thirsty The poor waitress brought 1 meal out at a time and had to serve 40 people It's a shame as it's has such potential but standards and service need to improve
